SeaWorld has been doubling down on SeaWorld. New offerings are more SeaWorld branded than in the past and there is a new park that is in active development.
Sure, they have no choice but to try and fix it.

And yet, the attendance and revenue is plummeting. They are not in a "Downward Spiral". They are in a "Death Spiral". If they thought they could pull it out of the spiral, it wouldn't be on the auction block.

Probably most of them would. I don’t know very many people who don’t like the Harry Potter stuff at Universal and almost everyone I’ve ever met who has ridden Spider Man loves that ride. This Universal vs Disney debate only exists in the fanboy world. The average Disney park fan also likes Universal. Probably a large portion of WDW visitors don’t even know Universal is owned by a separate company. It was especially confusing when Disney had an MGM studios park attached to WDW. I still hear people talk about Sea World and Universal like they are part of Disney World.

Of course there is a lot of crossover. But the crazy Disney-Disney-Disney fanatics who "hate" Universal? Nope they wouldn't go over there to ride it but they will pay $50 for a plastic banshee toy

You mean the folks who refuse to go to Universal because they literally feel that they would be being "unfaithful" to The Mouse for patronizing the competition?

Sorry, but you can't fix crazy.

If Comcast/Uni bought it. SeaWorld, as a brand would cease to exist. It would be spun off as an NGO and be relegated to animal rescue and rehab. The Orlando park would become Uni's. 4th gate with everything being razed with the exception of Manta, Mako, and Infinity Falls. Discovery Cove would stay. And Aquatica would be upgraded. Possibly keeping the name. Comcast would sell the 2 Busch parks to Merlin or Cedar Fair.

Comcast/Uni. would love to pull the Sesame Street characters into their arsenal of kid friendly IP.

For those keeping score, that would give Uni. 4 full blown gates, 1 boutique park, and 2 water parks in the Orlando Market.
Suddenly with this news my previous musings about this topic aren't so crazy anymore huh? ;)

I don't think Comcast would buy though it would be a good strategy to do pretty much exactly what you're saying.

I actually think this is likely, As it would solve many issues that Comcast has WRT expansion in Orlando market

Yep, there are extremes on both sides. There's a guy here who won't even watch the Star Wars movies because they are owned by Disney now. I have no real brand loyalty. I go where I'm entertained.

If Avatarland as constructed was built at either Universal park in Orlando I bet it would get a lot more praise then it currently does from certain people on this board. Too many people were still expecting the fanboy illusion of a Potter Swatter and nothing will live up to that.

Man, Blackfish really did a number on SeaWorld, huh?

My mom used to love taking us to SW...but once she saw that documentary, we've never went since.

Avatar == (Ferngully + Blue Cat People), I expect even if it got built by someone else it would have received the same reception. Avatar was an AMAZING technical achievement, As a story it was meh' at best.

I'm one of the guys who will not pay to see Disney or Marvel content, After my last point renter completes their stay my DVC is for sale, Unfortunately my cable carrier provides no means of purchasing a 'Disney Free' package.

Basically if we want Disney to change their behavior we need to stop buying their products and services, unfortunately that means closing one's wallet entirely to Disney. Yes there are Disney things I want to buy but they will have to stay on the shelf until things change at Disney.

Shoe dropped

Harvey Weinstein sexually assaulted and harassed young women over the past three decades, including his tenure at the Walt Disney Company.
Under Disney's ownership, Miramax made cash settlements with former employees who accused him of misconduct.

The lawyers are going to be all over Disney like flies on dung. This is NOT a good thing for Disney who have enough trouble already.

It's the zeitgeist. As powerful institutions that once shielded itself from scandal by hushing this up have been exposed (and it's just about every single institution from churches to scouts to sport programs to schools to corporations to families), then it empowers those abused to speak up more and more so. No institution or figure gets a pass anymore.

As it should be. So, let it go, Penn State.
