maybe Disney can help make a space thats safe for kids. To give them a place on the net.other than myspace and facebook. Kids need a place to express them selves without thinking could i be talking to a grown up trying to trick me.

Huh -- that's expensive. I'm on the site and it looks kinda crappy too???
Haha...yeah, it does look crappy. I would imagine that they are simply paying for the name and the clients. After that I am sure the site will get a pretty extensive overhaul. Who knows though, if the site is as popular as it seems to be, then perhaps they will apply the "If it aint broke, don't fix it". Maybe they see it as a prime marketing opportunity.

Sounds like they would be better remaking their Toontown product. Or VMK. Sounds lie somebody's nephew needed to sell their product and Uncle VP of Corporate Operations saw a way to do it. I have weird reservations about this, especially after going through the 1996 quality web site. Boy this almost feels like the VGA generation Sierra games. What was Sierra's online community? That thing was horrible.

I have thought about a site that limits its users to younger teens, and does background checks on its users in order to ensure safety. I don't know how feasible this would be, or how many out there would like to give up their SSN and other personal info over the internet, but it sure would provide a much safer place for kids to go.

Well, as someone in the IT biz it absolutely amazes me every time a company pays this much money for any web based biz.

The list is long and I don't think these companies realize its a complete waste of money. Disney has the talent to develop a site and promote such a site that would get loyal visitors to go to. 350m is a high price to pay and it goes under another of my ... Why didn't I think of doing this.

Honestly bad move DIS. But in the grand scheme of things what is 350m to Dis.

my 9 yr old neice plays with that game. sort of like VMK but more low tech.
...And you have to pay for it, too.

VMK is better, but like gusgoose says, Disney has no point in clubbing penguins. Just kidding.

I know of Club Penguin, and I think Disney was wise in getting it.

Interesting. My younger kids play on that and VMK constantly.
Must be something in their technology that appealed to Disney. But, you can't see it from the frontend.

I have heard of this and know some of my friend's kids use it regularly. Interesting news. I will have to let my kids check it out.

My DS (13) and DD (6) are on this site a lot and spend a good portion of the time laughing. It may look dorky, but they've obviously hit on something. Maybe Disney figures it's easier to buy something already sucessful than to build their own from scratch. Anyone remember GO.com?

Never heard of this club but if Disney is smart maybe they will have a link straight to Disney.com when you log on to Peguin.
