A long time Disney fan turns sour!

I do think the price of food is higher in Disney, because food is always higher in tourist places, whether it's a theme park, amusement park, water park or movie theater. And...it depends on how you eat. You can eat at Disney on a budget, or you can splurge and go all out and eat and drink whatever you want. I don't know any place I've ever been on vacation where the food in specialty places or touristy places isn't higher than your restaurants back home, unless you live in a tourist rich area. I expect to pay more.

Absolutely right. There are a few places on Disney property that are still relatively inexpensive, but you have to actively seek them out.

I get your points...don't dispute that.

But Disney's American parks weren't built on a pricing index compared to U.K. or EU pricing...so the evolving price is usually argued compared to the American dollar.
Clearly not, but your argument is that Disney is expensive, period. I agree, Disney is expensive - but all theme parks seeing in thousands of visitors a day are pricey. They know that people in the parks have to and are willing to pay that price, which is why not just WDW is overpriced.

When you look at it in general compared to other places, other parks, its really not that bad. Universal Studios around the corner - I found meals there were significantly more compared to Disney quick service. I believe our meal at the three broomsticks came in over $25.00 for 2 kids meals (the only veggie options), some chips and 2 drinks.

It’s about the same when you compare Amusement Parks in the US. Admission, plus paid extra rides, plus paid-fast pass, plus $15 parking, plus stupid prices for food and drinks. And let’s not even talk about the money for games every 5ft.lol

Some people realize that, so Disney parks aren’t as shocking as a result. Some people don’t realize that, and will continue to pretend that WDW charges more for ice cream, bottled water, and counter service food, than anywhere else.
I forgot parking as I don't drive, but I believe its around £20.00 a day for parking at Thorpe Park, unless you have an AP then I think it's either free of £5.00. Ofc, not everyone has or can afford an AP as they are pretty pricey.

They're roughly the same for many things, table service is less expensive at Universal but counter service is often the same. I think kids meals at Universal are more expensive than Disney. Water bottles also cost more at Universal than Disney.

I live extremely close to Central London, on the outskirts of Surrey. I can confirm that compared to my home town, Colchester, which is England's oldest recorded town and a hotspot, is not too expensive. Living where I live, it's INCREDIBLY pricey. More tourists, closer to the capital. Your statement is so accurate.

Oh i don't know about that. Yes, we are seeing guests expectations and actions change but so is Disney.
Prices are soaring, and to get even more, you are losing perks. The never expiring ticket is long gone as are other perks that used to be afforded to the guest. Fast Pass, if you look deep, is doing guests no favors. WDW originally had unique foods and pastries, how well are you enjoying your hamburger and BBQ chicken/ribs today? Downsizing of cast members and maintenance people has caused problems with the park and out side grounds.

and recently a blogger going to DL posted this beauty. Be sure to read the comments as one really hits home.

Why I'm furious with Disney and Park Ops | Total disregard for guest experience

You can't put the blame on the guest as Dizzy should be doing all they can to bring them in and entertain them. The Guest will change and react to changes that the Disney Company puts on them.

I had watched this video before, and I have to agree that it is hard to start a magical day if just getting to the happy place is a rage day. If the parking structures and lots are open, they should be adequately staffed for processing the vehicles to a parking spot. TSA rage should be in the lexicon. When you have to go though baggage check as a precaution for your security, then the waiting in an hour or more long line just for "your" safety can make people loose perspective. Not everyone can go bag free. Once the guests start off on the wrong foot, it is hard to change step.

You made the following statement:

"Also the other day I was at lunch with co workers at Chipotle, just a regular Chipotle here in Denver and I order 3 tacos with guac and a drink. 13.12 and all I could think about was this thread and how people said the food costs are sooooo much higher at Disney. 13 bucks for 3 tacos and a drink."

I showed examples of much higher prices at Disney comparing like items.

You then moved the goalpost:

"I was making an observation about food prices. I didn't say that the tacos at DisneyWorld are cheaper."

You said:

"how people said the food costs are sooooo much higher at Disney. 13 bucks for 3 tacos and a drink."

In what reality is $17.51 not much higher than $10.53?

In what reality is $26.05 not much higher than $10.53?

It's like arguing with one of my kids. I was making an observation on food prices. I did NOT say that 3 tacos and a drink are not as expensive at Disney. I've also said food is more expensive at Disney but I'm tired of people saying is so much more when it's not always. Yes it can be wildly expensive at Disney, I agree. I'm done with this.

I'm sorry if I'm not telling you what you want to hear, and you're struggling to accept that. I simply used your example to show you that yes Disney's food prices are often "sooooo much higher" sometimes ranging from 66-150% higher for the exact same meal you were talking about.

We sort of live in a cast system...the more money you have, the more you can do. The less you have, the less you can do. Some will say everyone has the option to make more money. What I see in general is that we stay about the same, income wise, unless you hit the lottery. So I guess at some point, I will could be priced out of Disney, or will go less and less. Got to buy me a lottery ticket!

Universals prices are identical...because they match pricing.

The difference between wdw and Alton towers or blackpool...however...is that Disney's stays are about 7 days on average (on site, anyway)...not 1 day. Many comparisons fall short when compared to daily ticket/event types activities...where high prices don't hit the wallet for longer periods/totals.

I don't compare Times Square pricing to WDW's...because they are two different pricing animals.

It's a comparison to aggregate American surburbia markets where the pricing "war" is won or lost by the walt disney company...As it has been since July 1955

The 2018 DDP is $75.49 for 1 Table Service Meal, 1 Quick Service Meal, 1 Snack, A Refillable Mug, all beverages with meals (including milkshakes), and 1 Alcoholic Beverage with your meal.

You can read thread after thread of how the DDP is “A Horrible Value!!”.
If Disney food was so expensive, then $75.49 would not be a horrible value.

Some restaurants are expensive. The majority are on par with anything else.

Well...if you break that down to $45/$25/$5 and concede that soft drinks are a completely unnecessary/disposable product...

...it's really not THAT inexpensive, is it?

You can use the tacos example here as well. If you eat table service tacos, counter service tacos, and have a beer you're still under $60 for the day making that day's DDP expensive. My personal issue with DDP is that it's inflexible, if you're not buying the most expensive things it becomes a waste of money.

The hook version they came out with was a good deal...now it's just pre-payment...and you have to "right to left" it

I actually made a mistake. It’s 2 snacks plus everything else I listed.

That’s a lot of food/drinks for less than $76.
You will spend that at most tourist destinations.

Right..."that much"...it's just a pre-payment system at retail...a deconstructed cruise ship, basically.

No argument there. Except cruise ships have much better food...except DCL 😎

Man, don't EVEN think about buying a pizza at a Cedar Fair park. You will blow a gasket...
