A few comments and questions on the current theme, and next years WDW theme.........

That's exactly how I feel too. Something about the current theme's decorations just looks cheap and not as classy to me as YOAMD. I'm sure people feel the opposite but at the end of the day, these celebrations are, as you said, superfluous.

But I will be happy to stop seeing balloon silhouettes on everything :lookaroun

Disclaimer: This is no way means that I have less of a good time in the parks than I did last year. :)

Thank you!

And I agree with your disclaimer. Rarely does the stuff I "criticize" on this board interfere with the amount of fun and enjoyment in WDW. I just like talking about it, and wondering how to make it better.:D

Same  Just figured I should disclaimer anything that may provoke such assumptions. Not that it happens ever :lookaroun

Slightly off topic.............

After ALL the over the top, in your face advertisements that I got for the new theme in the room, buses, airport, etc, imagine my shock and anger when I found out that they didn't sell the Mickey head balloons the way they appear in every single banner, billboard, and advertisement for this thing. I was so ed. So, I bought several of the Mickey head balloons inside the big clear balloons, popped the clear balloons, and just carried around the Mickey head balloons by themselves.

I cannot tell you how many people kept coming up to me and asking me where I got those from. No lie, I must have had like 30+ asking me. I gave one little girl one of my balloons. She was too cute to resist!!!

But I fail to understand why the main icon of a marketing campaign for a theme park is nowhere to be found. It makes no sense to me.

I definitely noticed that too...and they used to have those balloons because I remember getting one way back in the day! Not going to lie though, I was a little disappointed when our resort failed to give me the balloon with my birthday card from Mickey :(

...I refuse to disclaimer again.

Very true, though...You would think it would be there. It's in the commercial..

I also do not like this years theme- I think it is great to let people in free for their birthday - but to make a whole silly park theme out of it - not a fan- and I agree the parade seems a little less magical and watered down.
A yearly theme is to make each year look that much more exciting to get people to come see what is so spectacular.

I liked the decor of the YOAMD but I also kind of like What Would You Celebrate in general. I think that the only anniversaries that should be celebrated are the 10th, 25th, and 50th. Screw 15th and 40th. If you want to head down that path, we should celebrate 19th, 32nd, and 56th.

I know what you mean, but we NEED a 40th. With E tics. Always E tics.:lookaroun:lol:

And TDL celebrates every year, in some sort of promo...

I think celebrating every 10 years is more than ok for the parks.

Can't wait for the 40th!!!! :sohappy::sohappy:

I like the idea of YOAMD better than WWYC b/c of the excitement that you might get something unique just for being where you were. Although, I was little bummed to read some got multiple surprises throughout their stay, but I guess that would have taken the magic out of the surprise if the CM said here you won ____. Oh sorry, nevermind you already won ____.
And the buttons this year are out of hand - they're not unique when 75% of guests are wearing them. If I would have thought about it ahead of time I should've made an 'Un-birthday' or 'I'm celebrating a week away from work' button. ;)
I also agree they shouldn't try making up a new theme every just to have one - I don't need a theme to go to Disney, I go just for the excuse to act a bit like a 7 year old and I'm sure many true Disney lovers would agree! :D

The next theme should be YOAMD: Year of a Million Double-Strollers. On entering the park each family gets a free double-stroller rental.

In terms of marketing campaigns, I do think I like YOAMD's a little better than WWYC. I guess because I liked the whole "where dreams come true" tagline. With that being said...I haven't been down to The World since this new campaign began so I haven't gotten the full onslaught of the marketing. I still can't really pass too much judgment. Although I was disappointed to see Times New Roman as the font of choice....:lookaroun

I would like to visit the parks one day and not have a "theme" going on. I would still have as much fun, spend as much money, and want to come back just as badly without it. I like going just to go be a kid for a week!

P.S. When visiting in Dec '07 I noticed the Mickey head balloons were encased in that clear plastic balloon and it made me sad as well...

Havn't been up for WWYC, yet...but trust me. YOAMD was EVERYWHERE.:dazzle::lol:

I think every available space for hanging a banner was taken.
