a Fantastical Wooden Coaster-Ride-of-a-trip

Comin' at y'all with a
sun-drenched-, rain-soaking-, "you've got to be kidding me-", filled, 7-day TR!

To say that this adventure was like a "fantastical wooden roller coaster" would actually be...well..a spot on observation! And to be quite honest, personally I had more fun enjoying the magic of anticipation than I did the pilgrimage...lessons were learned, tears were shed, and blisters were endured.

As for the rest of my Disney-lovin' family, their journeys take on a different light, because as we know, "the reward is in the eye of the beholder"...or something like that. My DD's will tell you that they had a blast, so much so, that the oldest couldn't wait to get home and set up her own version of Test Track; and the youngest performed her own set of meet-and-greets with her toys the moment we returned home! Then there's my DH, who was just so happy to have a vacation, that the annoying fact that he was not able to use his room card for anything at one point, did not prove to be as frustrating as say, being followed by a cheer-chanting tour group from EP to MK via monorail (seriously, this happened).

To see what was on our original itinerary, I did a very short and sweet pre-TR:

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/the-rain-will-not-ruin-our-parade-ptr.866410/

Buuuuut, if you don't feel like perusing the above link, here's a quick re-cap of the particulars:

the WHO's:Just my little family of 4...
Me: Sara. I am a stay-at-home mom, and a proud owner of a pretty useless four-year degree in journalism and political science...I kid, I kid...the degree is "beautiful" ;) I like to be behind the lens, plan the trips, and organize my family's memories into 12x12 albums. I am also the ear-plugger for my DD's (fireworks get them every...single...time), on-the-spot-boo-boo-soother, and an all around allergy sufferer. This venture marked my 15th visit (since 2003), and my 11th as a DVC member!

DH: Joel. He is literally, "the bread winner," of our family, as his job entails operating his own baked goods delivery route...hey, it pays the bills and fuels our Disney habits. This guy is a germ-a-phobe, golf enthusiast (a self-taught 8 handicap, thank you very much), forever a child-at-heart, and producer of random movie quotes. With this trip complete, he has traveled to WDW 17 times (yup, he's got 2 up on me), and his 11th as a DVC member!

(Here's a family photo from our Oct./Nov. 2012 trip)

DD7: Chloe, 7. Just finished up 1st grade, but reads at a 3rd grade level, and could not wait for summer break to start! She is our ballerina, asthma-sufferer, "can I have another piece of paper for my drawings" artist, and the silly story-teller of the family. No matter how many times she's been to WDW (this marked her 13th), she gets super excited just to be "in her element!"

(right before our trip, she had her first ballet recital)

DSC_1020 by journ116, on Flickr

DD3: Eliza, 3. She is still very much the precocious-peanut of the family, whose love of princess nightgowns has turned them into an every day, "wash it again," obsession! Amazingly, and comically, she correlates plane rides with bus rides, and bus rides with Disney parks! Would love to ride all the rides like her big sister, but her lack of vertical stature leaves her behind (more on this later)...so, she gets compensated with face painting and an occasional high-calorie treat. Her WDW passport has only been stamped 8 times, not too shabby for someone who hasn't hit her 4th birthday yet!

*Surprisingly, I really missed having the in-laws along...and my DH and I agreed that for any future trips we take, that are more than 5 days, we are dragging them with us. I guess I am one of the few lucky people to have such caring, selfless, and gracious in-laws, even if my DH makes me sometimes question his upbringing ;)

the WHEN: June 5-12, 2013

the WHERE: A studio at the Boardwalk Villas (5 nights on points, 1 night on cash, and 1 night on points)
*Please enjoy this video courtesy of AllEars.net, as I took no room photos  :

the WHY: Might as well take advantage of our premium AP's we bought (expire in October 2013)...that, and our next trip to WDW, in theory, won't be until late 2014, early 2015, because we making the trek to Disneyland in Jan./Feb. 2014!

the HOW: Flying via Frontier Airlines out of MDT (near Harrisburg, Pa). Scored an amazing round-trip, non-stop flight: $138/each + seat selection + checked bags.

Great TR! :)

Thank you!
Great trip report so far. I will be staying at the Boardwalk with my husband and 2 kids in Jan, I'm interested to see how you enjoyed a studio with 2 kids as that is what I was planning.
Thanks! Whenever we go to WDW as a family of four and staying on our DVC points, we typically select a studio. There was plenty of room, even with the sofa bed left open for the entire vacation. Only thing I missed: having a washer/dryer IN the room...you'll find out why:rolleyes:

I literally just got done reading your DL TR, and it has solidified our decision to go to DL in Jan./Feb. 2014! I had been running the numbers on whether to do a week-long trip to DL or a land & sea package in WDW...prices were about the same, so we'll wait until Nov. 2014 (?) or Jan. 2015 (?) to do our cruise (which is definitely on our "to-do" list after DL)!
I laugh out loud whenever I look at their "skipper" picture...it is soooooo bad! There were so many other options at that kiosk:rolleyes:
Thanks for reading!
I'm so glad I could help with your trip to DL! You will LOVE it and your girls are the perfect ages. It's hard for us to make it to Cali since we have to fly versus driving to WDW- makes WDW trips a lot more frequent and DLR fewer and far between :(

*Walking back to our resort: I cannot tell you, that in addition to convenience, staying at a resort that is within walking distance to 2 parks is the best perk for guests! You and your feet can decide when you arrive and depart a park, you and your feet are the time keepers, you and your feet are the only mode of transportation you need to rely on! So, after 15 min., we arrived to our room: 2112 (on the same level as the lobby). I had requested a 1st floor room because I didn't want to have to deal with the "elevator issue" BWV's have...but we found the issue moot, as we never waited more than 2 min. for an elevator (which was needed when you have a stroller, or anything on wheels, to get down to the actual boardwalk).

(on our way back to BW)

****I apologize in advance, for I didn't take any room photos....bad Sara, bad!****

*Moments of truth, relief, and "grrrrr:" Yes, we did indeed receive a studio with a view of the Villa's pool, and if you looked right while out on the balcony, you could see the "river" that the park/resort boats traveled. Our room basically looked like the one in the YouTube video via AllEars.net.

And to our relief, our checked luggage was there waiting for us, saying, "Open me, see if TSA had to do a hand check..." (in fact they did...apparently they thought something in my little red bag of toiletries looked questionable and they left me a TSA note with a list of 'optimal packing techniques' ).

Then, I called down to Bell Services for our carry-ons and our groceries. Within 15 min., there was a knock on the door. The CM brought everything in and I instructed him to just leave it in the little foyer, and I tipped him handsomely.

As I was about to start stocking the mini-fridge (because we ordered cold items and 2 cases of bottled water), I noticed the fridge felt warm...it was never turned on!!! I proceeded to turn it up full blast and loaded it with our cold items, hoping they'd stay cold until the fridge got to a decent temp.

*Let's rest, jump on the bed, turn on "the Stacy channel," and have an in-room snack: I easily unfolded the sofa bed and prepared it for our DD's to share (moving pillows, grabbing the extra pillow and blanket from the closet), unloaded the luggage, organized the room, and gave my kids some cereal.

*Time check: 5 p.m..: DH was ready to visit another park, so we opted for HS. However, I wanted to pick up our DD's parasols from France. My DH and DD's were kind enough to accompany me to the bridge right before you get to IG, then I strolled on. As I am crossing the bridge between UK and France, I noticed that the kiosk was "zippered" up and not a CM in a horizontal stripped shirt was in sight. Sure, it had rained for a bit, but it had been off and on since we had gotten to FL. Well, I figured since I still had the receipt, I would try back tomorrow. Moving on!

*HS closed at 10 p.m..: Shortly after entering the park (hardly any lines at security or entrance), the girls fell asleep and the rain was coming down, so on went the cover.

(look at that sky...)

*With DD's passed out, we found no better time than the present to check out some shops. We then found ourselves at the Writer's Shop, where I got behind 3 teenagers ordering from a CM "earning her ears." Only 10 min. later did I have my hazelnut iced coffee (yeah, that makes 3 today), and followed my family toward Pizza Planet. My DH thinks the pizza here is the best on property...while he ordered his food, I went into the shop nearby (the one with the Muppets). Made my way out, but my DH still wasn't out with his food (that place was hopping!). Sooo, I stalked him at one of the big bay windows, called him on his phone..."I can seeeeeee youuuuuuu! Can I have your salad?" I laughed (because I am easily amused), and he rolled his eyes.

*Alas, some pictures to go with all this text

*Time check: 7 p.m.. Chloe was up and ready to ride Star Tours...good thing we were right there, as there was only a 10 min. wait! Off went DH and Chloe! Eliza woke up 5 min. later and asked, "Where's Chloe and Daddy?" I explained to her that they had gotten on a ride and we'd see them soon (I parked right next to Tatooine Traders). Well, Eliza gave me the most pitiful look and whimpered, "E-za get to ride?" (she cannot pronounce the "li" in her name). This wouldn't be the last time my heart broke for my short statured daughter. I proceeded to take her over to Star Tours Stand-By entrance and have her measured, knowing full well that she's 2 inches too short. I told her, "See, this is why you need to eat the food mommy puts in front of you, so you can grow and ride rides. Maybe when you're 4." The CM overheard me and saw Eliza's face.

CM: "Hi sweetie (to Eliza, not me). I see that you're almost tall enough to ride and I have something for you and your entire family."

he handed her what looked like a FP ticket

DSC_1395 by journ116, on Flickr

CM: "Hold onto this ticket. The next time you come and you're tall enough, this ticket will let you and your entire family enter thru the FP line. And the best part, this ticket doesn't expire. So mom, if you cannot make it back for 2 years, you're ticket will still be good."

DSC_1397 by journ116, on Flickr

Me: "Ah, Eliza, what do you say?"

Eliza: "Thank you!"

Me: "Thank you so much! You just made her evening!"

Really wished I would've gotten his name, so I could make a more personal "thank you." This is one of the reasons why I should've made up my business-card-like "Thank You's," to hand out to exceptional CM's.

As Chloe and DH walked out, but not before snapping this pic...

...Eliza ran up to them and showed them her "forever fast pass!" (which technically expires once you hand it in)

*The rain let up completely by this point, so we were searching for sustenance that the kids would actually eat. But wait, TSM had a 30 min. wait time!! I am desperately trying to find a time-stamped picture from that day, but cannot pin down what time we entered the line...sorry folks!

DH rode with Chloe (who had a blast), and I of course rode with little miss Eliza...after the 2nd turn of the car, Eliza was done. I am confident that it was the effects (sound, visual, and feel) that did her in...the poor girl just sat there frozen. I removed her 3D glasses and moved closer to her, keeping my arm around her at every crazy turn. Even doing all this, I still ended up beating my DH's score (mine was 330,000 & some change...pitiful, I know)!

*Time check: close to 9 p.m.. The park was closing in an only an hour, but we had had a long day and I wanted to get the girls something to eat in the room, bathed, and into bed.

*Although the lights were out by 10:15 p.m., the girls were up for at least another hour, giggling, playing with some new toys, and watching "Treasure Planet" (again) on Netflix on the iPad.

*Set the alarm for 6 a.m., as I was hoping to get to MK for 8 a.m.....I didn't even think to check what the weather would be like...

If you can go "stroller free" (a day my DH is anxiously waiting for), more power to y'all!!

Cost and bickering were also factors in my decision to rent a double. We could've just taken an umbrella stroller from home for Eliza, but the girls would've fought over it at some point. We could've taken no stroller and just rented a Disney hard shell one, but the cost would've been astronomical. So, I checked the various stroller rental sites and decided to go with Kingdom Strollers (have tried all the other ones BTW, and not one bad experience), because they offered the GT model of the City Mini (can hold a bigger child)...for $105, including the rain cover AND insurance, for 1 week, it was money seriously well spent!

While we were down there, our resort (not sure about Disney as a whole), was performing software upgrades...not sure if that had anything to do with our problems? But I've never had a problem, up until this point in our Disney travels, with our resort...guess there's a first for everything:confused:

You've pretty much summed up all of my stroller free fears. My younger one is a little bit older than Eliza, but both girls are so petite that I could see it still being too much and having to pay those insane prices for the strollers in the parks. I scrapped the idea of an umbrella stroller for the younger one b/c of the same concerns...the older one (also about to start 2nd grade) would want her turn in it too...even though she's currently mortified at the mere suggestion that she might need a stroller still. Things to think on over the next couple of months.

When did your problem occur? Recently? I was getting insanely anxious and I am surprised that I didn't call sooner than 3:30 p.m. (even though the technical check in time is 4 p.m.)!

Oh, the dresses are by "Carters" and I got them for $10 each at a store that's local to Central/Eastern PA! They reminded me of dresses my little sister and I would wear in the '80's!

This was last August and admittedly, we don't have the best luck with check in. Prior to last year, we were given 1 br units that hadn't been cleaned yet when they were assigned to us--two years in a row.

We're staying at the BWV in August, so I am digging your TR. :)

Loving your trip report.

1. BW villas are amazing, I love the views, and the whole being able to walk to the two parks-one of which is our fave.-totally makes it all worth it I agree on all your points right there.
2. You leave me hanging with the whole umbrella/parasol story...Really now?
3. Your girls are gorgeous...love them.
4. And that cast member with Eliza, omg did that just melt my heart. How special was that. I mean really its just moments like that one that just make you fall in love with the place all over again.
5. We never got a text when our room for Bay Lake was ready either, I pretty much felt the same way.

Looking forward to more!

Trolley, I may ask to pick your brain some time soon.
I was thinking the same exact thing:D

I often think of your little one in relation to my littlest one...surprisingly, Eliza is "normal" in that her weight is good for her height...buuuut, she's still only in the 17th percentile for her age:confused:. I know that we'll need a stroller for her for years to come. I had thought of investing in a Britax stroller, one that is similar to the City Mini...we shall see (maybe after I sell the other 3:oops:).

Your children are so adorable!!!
Thank you very much...but don't let their looks deceive you;)

No worries about the room pics. We didn't take any actual room pics either.

You make a great case to stay in the EPCOT area.

That was a great CM. Walt would be proud.

Wow! You had a great score on TSMM!

It all depends on what's on our intended schedule as to which resort we pick...and seeing how we visit EP more than any other park, BCV and BWV are always on the top of our list!
That CM was very sweet...even if you know you're kid isn't tall enough to ride, it pays to measure him/her at the entrance...apparently, a number of attractions have these "forever FP's" specifically for situations like this!
I've seen much higher, but I don't know all the tricks yet;)

1. I agree entirely with your statement!
2. Oh, the story gets bettero_O...
3. Thank you!
4. That particular CM moment did melt my heart, and I remembered that moment to get me thru some much tougher ones while on this trip.
5. Grr, that is so frustrating! I mean, c'mon Disney, even my doctor's and dentist's send me texts to remind me of upcoming appointments!

Much more coming!

I'm loving your very entertainingly wonderful TR!!!! :)
Thank you! I apologize that it's text-heavy though...I am a writer and explainer at heart! Plus, since it was raining off and on for the entire trip, I didn't break out my camera as much:(

Totally. This isn't brain surgery. They can manage to work out these details that may be minor to them, but people are trying to plan things. Gee whiz!

I didn't use my camera as much as I had hoped, either.:(

And that's really the root of our dilemma. Our younger one is exceptionally skinny and the older one is exceptionally short, so put the 2 together and I've got lowered expectations when it comes to walking all day. I honestly think the older one doesn't want to be in a stroller...she's all psyched about being 44" and getting to ride more big kid rides, but we'll see. I guess at least you have strollers...I can't remember when I sold our last stroller. o_O

OK- also up to date now with reading. I'm glad the whole, not being placed on the 1st floor worked out for you. You just never know with these things. The fridge matter would have really bugged me. And the TSA note...nice! Was there anything useful in it? The fast pass for Eliza was also super cute! I never knew they did that...just an awesome example of Disney magic :)

****ANOTHER SIDE NOTE: Before heading to bed, I decided to splurge and buy me and my DH DVC windbreakers/rain coat. I miss that AP holders no longer get 15, or was it 20%, discount on merchandise..."what the 'hey' Disney?"****

Thurs., 6/6

AM
*Will we make it for an 8 a.m. opening at MK?: With the long day we had yesterday, and some hiccups along the way, I was just too tired and kept hitting the snooze button for 1/2 an hour, which now put my whole family behind (because in my family, I am everyone's mom, clock, maid, and drill sergeant). I sleepily grabbed an iPad to see what type of weather we could expect today...
"WHAT? We're in a tornado warning? WHAT? There's a tropical storm heading our way...aptly named 'Andrea?' Guess my MIL will be joining us after all!" (in case you didn't pick up on that, my MIL's name is 'Andrea')

Made sure to pack the $1 ponchos for the girls, the stroller cover, our DVC coats, and pop an Alegra (not my usual allergy pill...forgot my Zyrtec at home)!

By 7:20 a.m., I was completely ready (including our park bag) and woke up DH; but, no "wake-up service" was required for DD's because I was purposely making just enough noise to jostle them out of their peaceful slumber.

Eliza was the first one to greet me: "Good morning mommy! I closed my eyes and went to sleep! I'm gonna wake up Chloe!"

Chloe: pulls the covers back over her head, stretches, and then giggles.

Somehow, Chloe, although she was last to rise, was the 2nd person ready...I cannot wait for Eliza to hit this age of almost complete self-reliance (it's the hair that still gives 'em trouble...heck, their hair still gives me trouble). Breakfast of champions was served (cereal), and we were finally out the door by 7:45 a.m., 15 min. behind my intended schedule.

*Bus stop experience: The bus stop at this resort is interesting as there is only 1 pavilion vs. other resorts that have multiple areas specific to certain parks; AND, busses only service MK, AK, DTD, and the water parks (makes sense since you can walk or boat it to EP and HS). Guests lined up in a "first come, first serve" fashion, leading from the where the bus actually pulls up and then snakes around back up the walkway.

DSC_1178 by journ116, on Flickr

We have no way of knowing what busses the other guests are waiting for, short of asking them, due to this bizarre "line-up." Also, this resort shares busses with Yacht Club, Beach Club, Swan, and Dolphin resorts...and depending on which bus you take, you could be standing on the bus or waiting for another one. A CM is usually there in the morning, timing the park busses and inquiring about others. I also noticed this sign:

DSC_1179 by journ116, on Flickr

The bus to MK arrived @ 7:50 a.m. and was packed with guests from Swan and Dolphin...clearly we were not going to make it for rope drop. We made it all the way up to the bus entrance, but decided to just wait for another one after seeing that there was "standing room only"...hopefully it wouldn't be as bad as the first one. Only 7 min. went by and another MK bus pulled up with only 5 people on board already. We boarded and my DH stood by the back exit door with the stroller...typically he waits until everyone else boards before he gets on with the stroller, but today he decided to switch it up a bit. Our bus made 1 more stop at Swan before we finally were on our way to MK!

*Time check: 8:10 am.. Somehow, my DH predicted that we wouldn't make it to MK until 8:45 a.m....I thought he was overestimating as we were only a 20 min. ride away. What I didn't factor in, or wasn't aware of, construction near the Contemporary resort...my DH would be right in his time estimation (I don't say that often).

*Entering with the masses, but made it thru bag check and the turnstile in under 3 min. interestingly enough! I have the bag check process down: open ALL zippers in my bag and pack items in Ziploc or clear pocket baggies; get the bag off my shoulder and slide it on the oval tables; make everything visible under the stroller (unless there's nothing to put under, then my DH gets the supreme treatment of actually walking up to the ticket turnstiles without stopping - don't ya miss those days?). Oooh, it was raining, but nothing we couldn't handle!

(the castle looks ominous)

MK castle by journ116, on Flickr

*First stop, considering that the park had been open for 50 min., PETER PAN!: If Eliza had not requested this ride, we probably would've skipped it altogether. Parked the stroller by Mickey's Philharmagic and high tailed it over to the entrance which read, "20 min.."

PP line by journ116, on Flickr

*Next would've been IASM, but there was already a 15 min. wait, and unless the wait time reads "5 min.," we don't do that ride. Carousel it is...and as usual, we waited 5 min..

girls on carousel by journ116, on Flickr

*Picked up the stroller and continued with our Fantasyland tour...ah, Tea Cups were down...by-passed Winnie-the-Pooh (figured we hit it up back thru) and went straight to another E-za request: "Goofy Coaster" (I know that's not the real name). My DD's love this ride, especially Eliza. Parked the stroller by Dumbo, threw the over-sized ponchos on the girls (who were protesting the size and feel) and carefully slopped thru some puddles to the Barnstormer.

Barnstormer sign by journ116, on Flickr

*After back-to-back riding with no wait time, in the rain, Eliza was showing signs of her first of many meltdowns, this time it was triggered by her poncho...so I took her aside, while DH and Chloe could ride Barnstormer again. Eliza and I made our way over to the merchandise circus tent to get a snack, bottled water, and 2 children's Disney ponchos ($13 later), then walked back to the coaster. Didn't see DH and Chloe (who actually had to wait in line for the ride), so I took Eliza on Dumbo (which only had a 5 min. wait). We by-passed the indoor playground and walked right onto the ride! It was raining, but we had fun!

Eliza and I got off Dumbo at the same moment DH and Chloe were walking off of Barnstormer. I gave Chloe her new poncho and asked if she wanted to ride Dumbo...of course! DH had to excuse himself to the restroom, so I took the girls inside and let them play in the playground. Before entering the playground, a CM stopped us and asked, "How many in your party?" I was then given 3 cards, as these would keep track of how many guests were in the area (it was far from being busy, so the 'ticket buzzers' were not issued). When anyone wanted to leave the area, whether to ride or simply exit, we had to give the cards back to the CM.

A few minutes later, DH came in and took Chloe on the ride...Eliza was content with playing. After riding, they came back in so Chloe could play some more...

DSC_1085 by journ116, on Flickr

DSC_1084 by journ116, on Flickr

DSC_1083 by journ116, on Flickr

While playing, Eliza started doing the potty dance, so I turned in 2 cards and exited out the Emergency Exit and went over to the fabulously themed train-stop restrooms. Went back over to Dumbo, given 2 cards again, and sat in the playground. Chloe was growing restless by this point, so DH turned in 2 cards, left thru the Emergency Exit, and rode Barnstormer (that makes 4 times). After 1 min., I was growing restless so I coaxed Eliza out of the playground (took another 10 min.), turned in the remaining 2 cards and left thru that Emergency Exit door again. I figured that my DH and Chloe would be off the ride by now, but I couldn't find them, nor the stroller...so, they were sitting somewhere, in the rain.

*I had grown tired of searching for them and had grown increasingly frustrated with Eliza. Mommy needs a time out and a beignet (would've preferred a stiff drink)! I tried numerous times to call my DH and he never picked up. So, I carried Eliza, marched angrily thru the pouring rain and puddles, and stopped near Space Ranger Spin. The sign read 10 min., so I decided to ride with miss Eliza. A CM was at the entrance asking people to remove their ponchos before entering the building, so Eliza was quite happy to oblige (sure, she'll listen to a stranger, but not me). I looked at my phone and saw I had missed 5 calls from my DH (I couldn't hear my phone as it was in my park bag, which was wrapped in a poncho). I called him back...

Me: "Where the _____ are you? and the stroller?"

Joel: "I am sitting outside of Dumbo with the stroller!"

Me: "Well I didn't see you, and I looked around, AND I called your cellphone!"

Joel: "Well, I didn't hear my phone and I've been calling you! Where are you?"

Me: "In line at Space Ranger Spin."

Joel: "Oh, how nice of you to wait for us!"

Me: "Hey, I called, couldn't find you, and Eliza was wearing on my nerves. Would you like me to wait for you?"

by this point, the rain was really, really, really coming down

Joel: "No." Click...he hung up.

It's not a vacation unless I'm arguing with my spouse!

*SRS was a blast, and best of all, Eliza and I were dry! At the ride's exit, I called my DH again, who actually answered, and found them waiting outside the ride's entrance. My DH was soaked to the bone, despite wearing his $50 DVC jacket...guess they're just wind resistant...

Me: "Why didn't you dump the stroller over there and get in line for the ride? Better yet, why didn't you just wait inside a shop?"

Joel: "Why bother, I'm already wet!"

Secretly, I sometimes think he likes swimming in his own stupidity as it gives him something to complain about...ah, Joel!

I told him that I'd take Eliza and the stroller over to Tomorrowland Terrace, order some food, and that he should take Chloe on the ride. He obliged.

*Tomorrowland Terrace: It was 10:30 a.m. by this point and I was afraid that we might've missed our opening here to get breakfast and use up some QS points. Phew...they were serving b'fast until 11 a.m.! I made 3 meals: ham & cheese on croissant with bottled OJ, and 2 mini-waffles with fruit with a chocolate milk and a cappuccino for momma. I then used 3 snacks on 2 orders of beignets and 1 on a fruit bowl. Eliza was quite the good helper and listened very well (yes!). We collected our food, napkins, plastic-ware, and sugar packets, and made our way to the "dessert party" dining section.

*DH and Chloe arrived 20 min. later, and my DH caught site of the waffles and wanted some instead of the sandwich. While he went back up in line, I got Chloe settled and cut up her waffles (Eliza was already chowing down). DH returned and told me that they were already switching over the breakfast menu to lunch, but that he was still able to get his waffles. So, if you hit up the Terrace between 10:50-11 a.m., you can get the best of both worlds!

*Bellies full and the rain had almost stopped: We decided to head back over to Pooh-bear's ride, which now had a 15 min. wait. While waiting in line, the girls got to play around. However, no day would be complete until Chloe got hurt...she pinched her fingers playing with the bumble-bee slide-thingys. O.K., "Chloe, time to keep your hands to yourself." The ride was good, but seemed to move quite quickly.

After Pooh, we checked the wait times for Belle and Ariel, agreed to by-pass them for now, and head toward IASW. Ah, let's skip it and head toward Haunted Mansion.

*A First: Chloe had finally ridden HM during our last trip, but my DH and I were hesitant about letting Eliza. Well, since she was getting skunked in the ride department due to height restrictions, we non-chalantly walked into the HM queue. The wait only read 10 min., and it was, if you don't count the "waiting room." When we came to the stretching room, I held Eliza, told her to close her eyes for now, and I covered her ears when it came to the, "You could try our way" on getting out segment. We were then let out of the room and we immediately hit a bottle-neck affect. This part took 10 min. to get thru, but we were finally on and somehow Eliza was riding with my DH and I got Chloe...soooo, I cannot tell you how Eliza reacted on her first run-thru...what I do know was that we got stuck 3 times and Eliza didn't cry!

*Continuing thru Frontierland: Skipped the mountain rides because Chloe didn't want to ride either, and headed toward PotC. I parked the stroller, found no wait, and realized that this was another FIRST for Eliza. She basically stayed in the crook of my arm for the entire ride, but didn't cry! This was followed by the Magic Carpet ride and the Swiss Family Tree House.

*Should we stay or should we go?: The time was 12:30 p.m. and my DH and I were pretty wet, AND we had a dinner reservation at Via Napoli later in the evening. We decided to leave the park, but not before stopping at Casey's Corner for a hot dog, fries, Coke, and brownie...another 2 QS meals used. However, the girls wouldn't dare eat a hot dog, so they sat in the stroller (as there was no 'stadium seating' by Casey's) and watched the black-and-white cartoons. It was at this point that I noticed that both of my feet were getting 'hot spots,' despite my best efforts in preventing them (i.e. blister band aids and mole-skin strategically placed). Darn Mary Jane Crocs!!

*Breezed thru the Emporium and found ourselves exiting the park and trudging up the ramp toward the monorail.

****This is all text...I apologize to all those folks, like my DH, who prefer to read stories by looking at the pictures;)****

*Monorail ride and 1 sleeping kid: We waited for about 5 min. for a monorail (thank goodness it was just raining and not lightning), and made our way to the TTC. First stop, CT, where only a handful got on and off. Next stop, the TTC and the dreaded, 'down the ramp, up the ramp' just to get to the express monorail to EP. I miss the days when they unloaded in the middle so guests could walk 20 steps and be at the next monorail.

Somewhere along the line, Eliza fell sound asleep in the stroller...good, this kid needed a nap! Another 20 min. passed and we were finally entering the bag check at EP. I felt like a wet rat by this point, so I was kind of anxious to get back to our room, dry off, change clothes, re-apply some smudged make-up, and get the other 2 - $1 ponchos. Buuuut, before we made the walk back, we headed toward France to collect the paid-for parasols.

*Parasol incident: As I am approaching the kiosk, I am hopeful that it wasn't closed because of all the rain from TS Andrea...I guess I could've saved the hope for another day. Kiosk was closed. O.K., someone around here ought to know where to find the attendant. I decided to ask the CM working at Les Vins if he knew where I could find the CM's in the stripped shirts...

CM with heavy French accent (ooo la la): "No, madame. I do not know because they are not a part of our pavilion."

Huh?

DH to Me: "While you're there, could you get me a beer?"

Me: "Un Kronenbourg 1644, s'il vous plait." (had to look up the correct spelling online...I can speak a few conversational lines in French, but not spell 'em). No ID was needed, I guess, as he handed me the beer without question. "Merci."

I told my DH that I would check around in the shops inside...not one CM could help me out. Odd. Frustrating. Another CM told me that that kiosk was not operated by Disney, but by a 3rd party...you've got to be kidding me! It's on Disney property, shouldn't a Disney CM know something? anything? I decided to inquire at our resorts' concierge desk, so off we went.

*Time check: 2 p.m..: Quick pit-stop at Screen Door General Store, and picked up a Rapunzel nightgown for miss Eliza (honestly, we all should just save our money on expensive Disney Princess costumes and buy the less expensive nightgowns!).

My DH took the girls back to the room to fix them something to eat, while I dealt with the ever alluding parasols. I presented my receipt to the concierge and explained our dilemma: that I had stopped 3 times now, that the parasols weren't ready the 1st time and that no one was there the following 2 times. The kind CM asked me if I had contacted the number on the receipt, and funny as it sounded, I said, "No, I hadn't even thought to try it." She picked up the phone to call, and here's where it got even more interesting...

10 minutes ticked off the clock...however, I was distracted by the older couple next to me berating a DVC rep on the phone...

CM to me: "I'm sorry this is taking so long, but no one seems to be picking up at this number. I am going to call my manager to get a number of a manager in France."

Seriously, another 10 min. passed...more information from the irate DVC members: they had already been here for 10 days and had been calling DVC every day since they had arrived to check for availability at BWV, as instructed by a DVC rep...

CM to me: "The manager on duty in France has no idea how to reach these people either. I am going to call my manager again."

aaaand, another 10 min. of my life passes by...DVC couple update: somewhere, someone dropped the ball with their reservation and requests, and they were told that BWV was full up, that they'd have to hop in a taxi to such and such resort..."Are you gonna pay for that? Cause I sure as h*** am not!...NO, we are not switching resorts because this is your mistake and you are going to fix it!"

CM to me: "I am very sorry to keep you waiting, but it seems no one is able to reach the people who owns that kiosk. I have been instructed to offer you a refund if you would like."

I knew we were heading back that way to get to Via Napoli later, but at this point, I didn't want to do business with the parasol stand any more. The CM refunded me via room charge, and kept my receipt. Sorry little ladies, no umber-sellas for you this trip.

However, I lingered just a bit in order to find out how the DVC couple faired: they were finally given a 1-bedroom at the BWV for the remainder of their stay (another 4 days). I thought to myself, "Man, I would hate to be that irate on my vacation! And I would hate to be at the receiving end of that poop-stick!"

*Time check: 2:50 p.m.. Back to the room to unwind and get ready for our 5:45 p.m. reservation.

Oh wow..the whole parasol thing incident, what a mess, I always pass by it and think well now I know. Sheesh. But I am glad that Disney at least refunded your money. I know you wanted the umbrella's though...

Yeah for Eliza not crying! What a big girl. We are still debating on whether to bring my 4 yr old son on Haunted Mansion or not...I do not know how he would take it but hoping he will be brave enough to since he has done all the other ones including Pirates without a fuss. Fingers crossed for August.

I would hate to have been on the end of the line with those members. I know Disney is not perfect things have happened to us before, like us showing up and they had lost our reservations completely. But we worked it out, and we told ourselves something would be worked out....ugh. I am assuming we would have done the same thing though stuck around long enough to see what happens.

My hubby has the same windbreaker to, he uses it in the rain, even if it soaks him to the bone...but I agree sometimes I think they enjoy that sort of thing.

Aaaaw, nuts on the parasol people!! Dude, they are contractors with Disney and Disney can't reach them!!?!?!

Oh, and my hubby doesn't answer his phone very often, either. I feel your pain.

I did feel bad that the girls didn't get their parasols...hey, one last thing for me to find space for in the luggage;)
Although Eliza made it thru HM with no problems, I'm not sure if she'll voluntarily go on it again. All I know, is that she didn't cry, didn't fuss to leave, but didn't say, "Again!" If you've ridden HM before, you know which moments might be a bit much for your little guy. In order to get my oldest to ride it the first time, I had to take away a bit of the magic, explaining to her that it's all fake, but that we should make a game of trying to figure out just how those Imagineers brought the house to life!
Ah, husbands!

My sentiments exactly! Why would Disney do business with a vendor, with a prime location, if said vendor cannot even be contacted?! I wonder if anything about the parasol people was done, besides my refund?

**Due to a salivation problem while reading other poster's food stories, glazing over @HouCuseChickie 's delectable-creations, and suffering from cupcake envy after watching the Food Network's, "Cupcake Wars," I felt the need to mend my Disney-treat blues with some scrumptious, local gourmet delights:

Left to right: Neapolitan, Salted Caramel, and Vanilla Peanut Twist

DSC_1409 by journ116, on Flickr

They may not be pilled high with Disney's dose of buttercream frosting, but they were the perfect indulgence to kick start PART 2 of DAY 2!

*Refreshed, replenished, and refunded:
After settling the parasol problem, I returned to the room where I presented Eliza (who had took it upon herself to put on pj's) with the Rapunzel nightgown..."Oh mom!I love it! Can I put it on now?"...a costume change ensued.I then took a little snooze and awoke to find my kids coloring at the table. Chugged some water, re-did the girls' hair, made myself look a bit less of a red hot mess, and swapped the soaking DVC coats for $1 ponchos. All of this took about 2 1/2 hours.

*Via Napoli @ 5:45 p.m.: We left the room around 5 p.m. and told our tummies that they would be digesting food soon. As we crossed the bridge to France, I couldn't help but glare at the stripped-shirted people who magically appeared at their kiosk...I guess they melt in the rain. However, I did refrain from yelling out at perspective buyers, "BEWARE, BEEEWARRRE!" We literally moved along and soon found ourselves at a long awaited restaurant!

Mmmm, it smelled so heavenly!Even my DD's remarked, "Mom, this place smells good!" I gave our name to a friendly CM and within 3 min., she was leading us to our table, a good 10 min. before our actual reservation! The place was somewhat empty, and the walk-ins that came in behind us were being seated as well!T he hostess who sat us gave us a lesson in Italian: "To say, 'Thank You,' we say 'Grazie! 'Say it with me now...'Grazie!' Very good!"

I had perused the menu in the leisure of my computer chair, and was very excited about the pizza and the drinks...dear lord...the drinks! Our waiter introduced himself and took drink orders: water for the table, chocolate milk for Chloe, a white Sangria for me, and a red Sangria for DH. However, when I heard my DH ordering the Sangria, I kind of embarrassed him when I interrupted his order: "Honey, order a beer. You will not like this drink, I guarantee it." He defied me and ordered the drink. When it finally came to the table, he took one sip and slid the glass over to me...told ya so! More for the momma (which totally went to my head...my DH could tell when my cheeks turned bright red...I'm a bit of a light weight)!

Food time...I anxiously ordered the Margherita Pizza, DH got Candele (candle stick pasta, sausage ragu, polpettine meatballs, mozzarella, ricotta), a kids margherita pizza, and spaghetti with sauce and meatballs on the side.

Eliza only took 1 bite of the pizza, but Chloe ate 1/2 of her pasta sans sauce and meatballs (I finished that off). DH cleaned his plate of goodness, and I left 1 slice of pizza on the tray because it had become a bit soggy (not what I expected from a wood-burning oven). Not the best pizza I've had (the best was in Lucerne, Switzerland), but the 2 Sangrias washed away all my cares! O.K., I needed to smarten up, so, for dessert I ordered a cappucino, a chocolate gelato for Eliza (again), a ruota di carretto (vanilla gelato smooshed between 2 sugar cookies) for Chloe, and a coppa dii brutti ma buon (vanilla gelato with amarena cherry sundae) for DH. All was consumed!

DSC_1099 by journ116, on Flickr

The check came and I'm glad we had the TIW card...saved 20% on the meal, but left $150 poorer (that's with tip:eek: ). My DH and I decided that the next time we come, the in-laws are coming too, and that we're gonna leave the girls with them in the room, and spend a couple of hours here indulging in antipastis and drinks!

I enjoyed it, but the girls thought fireworks or cannons would go off at some point, so they covered their ears for most of the show (none of those happened BTW). I was however, surprised that Lance Armstrong anchored the show...

*Pearl time!: It is very hard for me to go to EP and not stop in at the Japan pavilion and try my luck at picking an oyster! Aaaaand, today was no different! Off to the Oyster Bar!
Since I was the only one interested in participating in this expedition, I had Chloe pick out a pearl and then sent the other 3 on their way to browse the store. I went up to the cashier, "Two oysters please..." handed over $40, got $6 in change, a receipt, and a number...lucky #7! The ladies were only on #3, so I actually had to wait (a first for me). I was just too enveloped with the whole drama of pearl picking and oyster opening, that I didn't scope out which oyster I wanted.

"We're looking for lucky # 7!" That's me!

I pointed to the oyster Chloe selected, and then I inspected the oysters around it..."I'll take that one..." a smallish oyster with a bit of fuzz, laying on its back.

Pomp and circumstance followed...time to open Chloe's first...I glanced around to see where my family was..."Sun, knee, itchy" (phonetically written)...a pretty, shiny, white 7 1/4 mm pearl! Next was mine...the CM paused for moment, smiled big, and literally exclaimed, "Twins! And not just any twins, silver twins!" She told me that there was a 1% chance of that happening! (the roller coaster was on it's way up!) Mine measured in at 6 1/2 mm!

DSC_1421 by journ116, on Flickr

My family missed it :( The only picture taken of me and my pearls were by a few strangers...

*Unimpressed and gift cards spent: Enthusiastically, I showed my DH what I had gotten..."Are you done with pearls now?"....uuuuh, no! If anything, this find had gotten me pumped to search more oysters! The girls had found some souvenirs: Eliza picked up a very expensive monkey baby thing (I'm sure someone here knows what it is), and Chloe got yet another Hello Kitty! bag.
