Can someone explain how this is considered “an expansion” when there is no net-new attraction count? Are we bending the definition to suit the “$60 billion” statements?

1. The footprint of the park that is used for guest enjoyment will increase with some previous BoH area being taken over for the Encanto ride.

2. The Encanto ride and the carousel should be providing extra capacity compared to what they are taking over.

TWDC never promised that the $60B capex wouldn't be used for rethemes or rebuilds.

it is an expansion in quality though - the carnival was always a stretch. During the Eisner era there were juggling shows and Lucky the Dinosaur back there to bring the area to life but this is certainly an improvement.

Other replacements are much more debatable (movie ride, energy, rivers of America, fountain of nations, muppets….)

If all this ends up being is central American Harambe with no new animals, it's still an improvement over what was if we are removing nostalgia. At least in my opinion.

If I let nostalgia drive, then I'm still mad that Dinosaur is going

There is no practical reason for them to replace Dinosaur. It really stinks. They could have fixed it up. But instead they're replacing it with more freaking IP, of diminishing relevance, too. Times are rough.

But at least I'll get to ride my long-time favorite attraction one last time.

Technically they’re replacing an IP with another IP.

Look man I’m with you. I love the ride. But it had its chance and it clearly didn’t endear itself to the majority of people. It’s sad but it’s true 😔

Imagineering said last week they hadn't yet built a physical model of the Indy ride. So I suspect Encanto will be open before Indy.

That would allow Disney to put Encanto as LLSP and make a ton of money. Then when Indy is ready, that would be the LLSP, making more money.
This system has 8 scheduled named changes between now and the opening date of Tropical Americas. I predict Encanto will be FPPPP and Indy will be EO768-04

The footprint of the land will be bigger and the capacity will shift from "bad capacity" to "good capacity" in as much as Encanto is expected to be more popular than Primeval Whirl. We also tend to forget that Primeval Whirl actually existed.
