These are the kind of winters I grew up with
It's not really Christmas, unless the snow is over 6 feet deep.
I live in So Cal now and it feels really lame to listen to Christmas music about "frightful weather" and see inflatable snowmen and lighted snowflakes in people's yards when it's warm enough to be at the beach. I have too strong of a mental association between giant heaps of snow and Christmas...it's hard to undo that and get the Christmas "feeling" when I'm surrounded by palm trees.
I was so excited last night...we stopped at Legoland for a couple hours on our way home from shopping and discovered they set up an entire area full of snow. My kids got to throw snowballs and go sledding surrounded by Christmas lights, music, and machine-generated snowflakes falling. It felt pretty authentic, even if my son was wearing shorts.
