Jay Rasulo's comments about cutting park spending in 2013... I can't see Disney announcing anything that will start construction until 2014, unless Disney want to upset shareholders with broken promises?

The fact that something like that would cost 500 million could be considered sad, but no you're not sad for thinking that, just realistic. Disney is very wasteful with their money and it takes them way more than it should to build certain things. I'm not convinced they could build a decent Cars Land clone alone including nothing else for 500 million (I believe New Fantasyland cost around that much or so and it doesn't compare with Cars). Though someone can correct me if they know better. But if this rumor had any weight to it at all, I definitely can't see that being enough.

Exactly, look $1.5billion for DCA Makeover Part 1 ... which had more structure when it came to areas than DHS. I'd actually feel more insulted if all they spend is $500million

Hey guys Long time reader, first time poster!

But in regards to the GMR, removing elements such as its AA’s and elaborate sets would be a waste. People always talk about immersive environments on these forums, the arguably most (or at least top) immersive rides in WDW is the GMR. The movies are brought alive around you. From the moment you are on that sound stage to when you are in the underworld, to the hijacking of your vehicle to the Indiana Johns temple scene, you are surrounded and litteraly become part of the films, part of the adventures. The movies come alive. Isn’t that the point of the studios; to take you into the heart of the most classic films? It could use updates and some small scene alterations, but as a whole this attraction works well.

Arguably some money could be thrown to shine up its AA’s but if there is 500 million being allocated to Hollywood Studios. The GMR isn’t the part that they would throw money at. Carsland, even just a cloned RSR ,would take up a good chunk of this money, leaving a small chunk for either something in Pixar Place or a Star Wars tie-in. But again this is a rumor and granted how many rumors are floating around about HS something is up for sure.

Are they really building a CarsLand in DHS, I'm sorry I haven't been keeping up with the threads recently. I'm thinking that all this fishy business regarding Countdown to Fun, and the Stage on the BAH being removed may be tied with this investment. Maybe it's the start of a DHS rebirth???

How about hell no.

WDW has lost enough of its animatronic-heavy rides full of elaborate and detailed physical set pieces, way too many. Stupid idea to want to remove even more. Video screens, no matter how large, wide, or whatever cannot compare.
Exactly. The thing about a video is (for me anyway) you are disconnected, but when you travel through an actual set with AAs you are transported into that world. No quality of video screen can accomplish that for me. I think video screens have their place and can be used to make some nice effects. But to think of something like the great movie ride being just a video ride through, it would be a travesty. If I wanted to watch clips of movies I would just stay home for that.

I would looove for the GMR to be turned into a 'Great Classic Movie Ride'. Possibly the best solution to keep the ride fresh forever. But please no screens, but large sets and lots of AA's!

Sooner or later something will come to DHS - and in the case of the BAH, something will go too - but this $500M seems to be just a lucky guess. Rumours based off of other rumours.

Also, I found this great picture of Howard.

That probably won't be here long, bookmark it while you can ;)

Maybe the GMR remake can be tied to the Star Wars survey that's been going around. If I recall the questions were asking for specific scenes and such. Star Wars would make sense as a classic movie scene. Just a thought.

But remember they are cutting from a pretty high number that included two new cruise ships, Aulani, Fantasyland, DCA make over, just to name a few. They said in one of the recent investor calls that they would be spending "more then 1billion but much less the 2" a year on capitol improvements. Spreading a $500 million project over 5 years, would not be unrealistic under that budget.

easywdw is saying that Disney is about to invest $500 million into Hollywood Studios. Normally I would say its just another site posting rumors but I've never seen him use his site in that manner before. He also says that the Great Movie Ride will get a classic movie makeover, rather than a modern movie makeover.

I know the website owner of that site frequents here, but not sure that he posts. If so, maybe he can shed a little more light on his sources for this information or give some further details.

I know who he is.

Verdict is still out on his reliability as a source.

I may have misunderstood, but my impression of Rasulo's comments was that he was referring to cutting overall P & R spending from the levels seen in the last two or three years. That period included a few billion spent on the cruise line, DCA, FLE, etc. With that in mind, Disney could cut P & R investments down to a billion or two and still be well below previous years.

As long as GMR gets Howard the Duck! It's a classic!

There isn't 500mil in the 2013 budget for it. However, I'd look for it to be a part of the fiscal 2014 budget, which would take effect October 1.

A Dick Tracy Ride! That would be interesting!
They discarded that idea years ago.
