5 Days at Disney World, 12 Days to Plan, 3 Resorts and 1 Broken Leg

When – Saturday November 17th- Thursday, November 22, 2012

Where – Animal Kingdom Lodge, Old Key West and Saratoga Springs

Who – Just the 4 of us this time! Myself, Stephen my hubby, Chase 17 and Ally 15. Since it was just the four of us, I somehow neglected to get a single photo of us together! I think there are only three of them with myself even in them! So here we are in parts.

Why – Well because we wanted to of course. :D But why Thanksgiving week, one of the most crowded weeks there is? Well there were several reasons. For one, it’s tough to find a time to go these days that works for all 4 of us. I can go anytime, of course, and I do! :) But the teenagers and hard working hubby are harder. We had rooms booked for President’s Day weekend, but the kids had a lot of conflicts. Also, we had nothing to do for Thanksgiving. About 12 days before we left, I got an airfare alert for $176 flights to Orlando.

So what do you do when you don’t have anything to do for Thanksgiving and you can fly to Orlando cheaply? You go visit the mouse of course!! We go enough that the crowds don’t bother us much, so it seemed like the perfect solution.

The kids were more than game, and Stephen cleared it with his work. We bought the tickets and set to work trying to find somewhere we could use our DVC points and use about the same amount of points as we had planned to use in February. As expected, we didn’t have a lot of options, but that was no biggie either. Just happy to be going!

We ended up with the first night at Kidani in a savannah view studio. The next two nights were, get this, in a grand villa (yes for four of us :p ) at Old Key West, then two nights in a studio at Saratoga Springs. This would be an adventure!

Of course that was just the beginning. About 9 days before we left Ally was at basketball tryouts and rolled her ankle. Her ankle was huge when I picked her up, but she’d done something similar at volleyball tryouts and it was just sprained then. I assumed that was the case here, but we went to the doc just in case. When he told us there was a fracture, I was shocked! My first thoughts were sadness that she probably wouldn’t make varsity since she only went to one day of tryouts, and my second thought was how sad her volleyball coach was going to be when we told her that Ally wouldn’t be at the last volleyball tournament of the season in two days. It didn’t hit me until we were in the car going home that we were going to Disney in 9 days.

I screamed – “Oh no!! We’re going to Disney World!!” That may have been the first time I’ve used “Oh no” and “we’re going to Disney” in the same sentence. Ally immediately started clamoring for an electric scooter which seemed like a bad idea for too many reasons to list here. :)

She had a walking cast, but there was no way she was up for the amount of walking that Disney entails, so we were looking at our first trip to Disney with a GAC card and a wheel chair! This should be an experience.

Oh, and if you were wondering, Ally did make varsity. All five foot zero of her. And she’s a freshman! She’s out for a few weeks, but thankfully basketball season is long. Go Ally, go Ally…go go go Ally…:D

Our ultimate destination was Fantasyland of course.

Fantasyland was amazing. Just beautiful! I knew I was going back for the opening the 5th through the 7th, so I didn’t concentrate on pictures too much this time.

Did you know Gaston uses antlers in ALL of his decorating?

The store had some neat things:

Belle had a long wait, so we went towards Little Mermaid. It was a walk on! Score!

The crab is so cute!

When we got off, we bought Ally some popcorn. We were wheeling past Belle and the wait was only 10 minutes now, so I knew it wouldn’t get much better. I convinced everyone we needed to see it once.

It was very cute. The mirror effect was great.

Here’s the wardrobe:

When the audience participants were chosen, Stephen was picked as a soldier. Stephen is a magnet for being picked. He was in the third row back standing quietly in a crowd of people, and bam – he was picked. We all chuckled. Here he is. Good job, honey:

I wasn't really close enough to get a good picture of Lumiere, but he was awesome.

After the story it was time for pictures with Belle. How adorable is this?

I think Stephen looks a little too happy to be next to Belle.

The other soldier forgot he was still "in costume":

Oh yeah!

We walked over to Dumbo next and wandered around.

Chase hijacked the wheelchair for a moment while we waited:

After that we went to Tomorrowland stopping for Sundaes for the boys along the way. The kids are really into this new app called Snap Chat? Or something like that. You can send a picture to someone, but they can only see the picture for 15 seconds and then it’s gone. I didn’t see why that was so appealing at the time. Later in the week when I sent a funny picture of myself to @polymissy and she threatened to make it my picture on her phone every time I call her, I saw the value in funny pictures that disappear. :D

I can’t tell you how many times I looked at Ally this week to see her making a crazy face into her phone.

The DJ in Tomorrowland had a rocking party going on as we walked into Space Mountain. Gangnam Style was playing and it was rather amusing to look around and see how many random people were doing it, Space Mountain cm’s included.

We were directed to the Fastpass Line and pretty much walked on. Space is such a great ride.

The concert was still going on and we stopped while I ate a Mickey bar.

We walked over to Buzz next. Now I know where the 100,000 point targets are, and ever since I told Chase, he hasn’t ridden without maxing out. I still haven't maxed out. I’ve done well, but I still can’t max it!

Tonight was particularly bad. I’m pretty sure my gun was broken. At least that’s my story. When by the second room I still only had 1300 points, no I am not missing a zero there, I gave up and started taking pictures.

ThanksgivingDisney1b096384.jpg

By the way, the below picture (and the above one actually) contains one of the 100,000 point targets. :)

ThanksgivingDisney1b096386.jpg

Chase maxed out again of course.

When we got out, we realized that The fireworks were about to start, so we found a place to watch. Perfect timing.

Hello, Tink!

ThanksgivingDisney1b096411.jpg

Not perfect timing for the busses, which we sat through 3 of before we finally made it on one. When we got back to Old Key West, I couldn’t believe how many internal stops there were! Mercy!

We all went to bed (in our own rooms, lol) pretty quick because it was late!

We decided to sleep in again tomorrow! This was turning into our opposite trip. We normally get up early and don’t stay out too late. This trip we did the opposite! :)

More to come!

Wow Tammy, awesome room in OKW. We had a one bedroom and I loved it when we went! Our next trip we only have a standard room in the GFR. We are so spoiled, LOL! Great report, Tammy can’t wait to read more! I’ll post mine once we go with my new camera! ;)

You should have got up. Went to the Animal Kingdom, where on Monday they had early extra magic hours open at 7:00. There was no more than 50 people there when it opened. I am not a fan of roller coasters but I talked to a family that did Everest 10 times straight in that hour. I have pictures of the area by bone dig and not a single person was around.

Yay an update! Woo hoo! :D Your pictures of the castle dream lights are AMAZING! So beautiful.

I am so glad that Wes and I went into Enchanted Tales with Belle. It was a really neat experience and I could see where if you had kids it would be really fun to see them interact. That is too funny that Stephen was picked! Hahaha And that other soldier who stayed in character looks so funny in the picture where he finally realizes to drop the prop!

Oh man! I forgot to go check out Storybook Circus! Dang it! I kept asking my family if they wanted to go on Dumbo and no one wanted to so I forgot to go check out the new shop. Man...next time I guess.

Love the update! More please. :D

great tr continues, but i must say that tinkerbell looks like a guy. LOL

The last time I watched Tink come in for the somewhat violent landing backstage, I made a point of hanging around to find out what would walk down from the landing platform on the roof.
It was most definitely a girl. At least that night it was. That was about two months ago. It may look like a guy in the photo as she travels down the wire, but remember she's wearing a harness and lots of lighting paraphernalia.
After she took that stuff off, I saw a girl in a white skin tight outfit walk down from the enclosed landing platform on the roof.
