24 Hour Diner...good idea?

I guess my biggest question is what types of people would they be marketing to with a 24 hour diner? (not meant in a bad way, as I love a good greasy spoon myself, just trying to think of the logistics)

I can't see most families taking the kids out to eat in the middle of the night, and with PI closing the bars, I don't see it being utilized late night.

Maybe if they had it over on the Boardwalk near Jellyrolls? But then again, people may have a hard time getting to the location unless they had specific BW busses late night.

Now a diner that opens really early to get a decent breakfast before early morning park hours or something I could see working on some levels, but yet again, with so many people doing Magical Express, would they have ways to access it via resort transportation?

I could maybe see locals or people staying off site utilizing it more than onsite guests, as they would most likely have their own transportation and would enjoy a home cooked meal for late after park closing or early before park openings.

Not old, just vintage.
I think that's a really great idea and practical, too. We have a diner about 10 miles from me - it's not 24 hours, but it is very themed with a TON of chrome and pink flamingoes....it is just fantastic.

I'd love to see that on Disney property.

I have a diner about .10 miles from me. It is 24 hours and themed with a TON of chrome and pink flamingoes. :lookaroun :p

While I would love there to be a real diner at WDW, there are a number of problems / requirements

1) REAL coffee - not Nescafe

2) Disco Fries - if you don't know what they are, come see me in NJ

3) Taylor Ham, egg, and cheese on a hard roll. If you don't know what Taylor Ham is, come see me in NJ

4) Real bagels - not that round bread they now serve

However, I have a feeling such a place would be too crowded. I am not used to waiting for a table at a diner. A diner in WDW would required ADR's, except maybe in the wee hours of the morning.

Disco fries are a requirement for any and all diner meals. :slurp: :slurp:

Coming from a town that has 3 diners in it, the diner concept in WDW would be far from new for me, but I think the rest of the world should get to experience the joy.

Diners actually are usually a stand alone thing, and I really don't associate them with malls at all, as I have never seen one in a mall or even a malls parking lot. I kinda thought a roadside diner look would be a unique place.

Johnny Rockets (sp?) is a retro-50s chain that's all over the world, and often appears in malls. Even in Paris. But they are "replicas" and not really the genuine article.

The waiters who work in Paris (probably everywhere) have to go to special training to learn to act like 50s diner waiters. It was funny to go to the one in Paris and have our (female) waiter all dressed in a 50s-US diner uniform, and doing things like pointing at the menu with her pencil to make suggestions (in French) (for those of you who don't know, Parisian french waiters can be rude in many different ways, but they would never point at a menu with their pencil).

(168 for me, btw, not far from Phonedave)

Jersey Diners sound cool and all, but I was thinking more along the lines of a Waffle House (We Southerners have to represent...).

Definitely! Only when I order disco fries I like the brown gravy on the side and sometimes I like waffle over regular fries.

When I read through the thread it is so obvious that us Jerseyans love our diners!

I get gravy on the side too. This one place by me serves it in a coffee cup on the side. Well, I normaly get coffee as well, with milk.

There have been times, late at night, when I have either dipped fries in coffee, or picked up the gravy and took a slug. MMmmmm gravy :D

Johnny Rockets is pretty good, but it is very limited. Burgers, and maybe some chicken if I recall. As I am sure you know, in a diner you can get just about anything you want (excepting Alice, well she has a restaruant, but I digress)

I guess if I had to translate my NJTP exit of 18E to "Parkway coordinates" I am 161 :). but its still 10
miles east of there to get to me.

Closest diner is the Red Oak in Fort Lee (I think) Louie's Charcoal Pit in Teaneck may be a couple of feet closer.

All you NJ-ians are making me homesick (and cracking me up)!!! We moved from there 2 years ago. I do love it here in WPA, however people look at me funny when I mention a pork-roll, egg, and cheese bagel. Oh how I miss disco fries from the Toms River Diner. That being said - I would definitely visit on at DW.

Not like Florida, or the south for that matter, needs ANOTHER one of these...

...but you put that next to the Hess station as you come out of Hollywood Studios, and I'll be there every night for cheese hashbrowns!!! BUT...make it more "realistic"...bring in the waitress in the hairnet and buffont Betty from the Waffle House on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh, NC, across the street from Meredith College and just down from NC State...throw in a few ed off truckers, drunk co-eds, and sleeping homeless people, and you can have a TRUE taste of Americana!!! (or at least 3AM on a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night for myself)

Actually, WDW does have a 24-hour eatery... Picabu (formerly Tubbi's) at the Dolphin is open 24-hours. I know the grill closed at some point (it's listed as "closing time seasonal" in the info I found), but they do have pre-made sandwiches, salads and desserts available 24/7.

I got a very nice Shrimp and Pasta Alfredo there one night well after 11PM.

If the resort counter service places were better I'd be happier.

We've come back at like 1:00 from the P&P party or from DTD and wanted something, only to go into Captain Cooks, or wherever we are staying, only to find nothing on the shelves and the hot stuff not being made.

Sometimes you just want a snack late at night! They can be hard to find at WDW!

Not a southerner, but I love the South and a few times we did leave Disney World to wander the highway and I can recommend the Waffle House. I formally adopted biscuits and gravy if I can't find Disco fries. I also love hashbrowns and grits.

This is for Phonedave and all the Jerseyites that listed their hometown diners.

New Jersey Monthly magazine came out with their best dining awards and one category in particular might be of interest.

BEST DINER:

3. Rio Grand Diner

2. Summit Diner

1. Tick Tock

You remind me of when I lived in NW FL for a while. When I first got there, I kept asking places if I could get a "Taylor Ham and cheese" sandwich. They thought I was nuts.

Taylor Pork Roll...yum...but how about Scrapple!
Tom's diner out in Pittsburgh used to make a pretty mean gyro too.
And as far as Disney already having a 24 hour eatery...I just don't think premade sandwiches cut the mustard...thats like comparing a diner to a 7 Eleven.

Heh, I used to work 1/4 mile from the Tock, right next to the Rowe-Manse Emporium :) (No its not an "adult place" just a very oddly named "department store" with deli that rocked)

I find the Tick Tock good, but overpriced. I have eaten at the Summit as well. Never heard of the Rio Grand, guess i need to get out more.

This thread had me thinking. I love to find little hole in the wall individual places to eat. How cool would it be if they could put a whole bunch of "signature' local places in one spot. Sort of like an World Showcase of local dives. Places like White Manna in Hackensack NJ, Nick Tahou Hots in Rochester NY, Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans, and Papaya King in Manhattan - how cool (and fattening) would that be :) Maybe they build a health club next to it.

I was always a Gray's Papaya Guy myself, but I maybe cause I went to school around the corner. One of those would work perfect on the Boardwalk, right atmosphere, it would be cheap to run....

I'm telling you, 24-hour Monorail Cafe! It would be glorious!

Slight drift, does anyone else watch Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives on the Food Network?
