I'm telling you, 24-hour Monorail Cafe! It would be glorious!

Slight drift, does anyone else watch Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives on the Food Network?
Great show. I try and make a note of where he is so that if I am ever in the neighborhood of one of those places I could drop in.

We used to have a restaurant here in Gainesville that was in an old train. It was really neat.

So are you talking about eating in an actual monorail?

It could be a combination of the former diner from the Disneyland Hotel and a Monorail. Think about Restaurantosaurus and how some seating is in a trailer attached to the building.

If they made a concept restaurant like that with the monorail, that place would be packed with all of us geeks.

I watch it. I like the show, but Guy Fieri (spelling) just rubs me the wrong way.

I could have his job. He doesn't cook anyting, he just runs aound with his glasses on the back of his neck talking about "monster flavor"

Did you ever see the Dinner: Impossible episode that he was on. He cooked frozen Weaver Chicken Nuggets. Of course it was for a camp, but I dont think he could have handled much else.

Another Jersey girl weighing in...I think it's a great idea! How about near/at the T&T Center? Great for a pre-park early breakfast or a post park late-night triple-decker sandwich! Or maybe after resort/bar hopping on the monorail. There are dealers out there that sell old diners ready for restoration, even old White Castle buildings...how cool would that be?
Plus they could do American regional fare. A group of typical Chicago menu items like deep-dish pizza, loaded hot dogs, from Philly-cheesesteaks, hoagies, from the South- Pecan Pie, biscuits and gravy-the list goes on and on. This would be a great draw for foreign citizens, and a great way for them to try our regional specials. Plus for all of us Americans, a chance to have a favorite from home.

You bet, it'd be one happenin' joint! :ROFLOL:

It'd be like our version of a bar. Try to imagine (just for a moment) the EPCOT Center vs. Epcot brawls!

He actually isn't a bad chef. He has another show where he actually cooks and does different recipes, but for the life of me I can't remember what it's called or when it's on. I've only caught it a few times.

I was actually glad when he won the Food Network Star challenge thing, as I think he has a great TV persona compared to many others that tried out. The girl that won last year was blahhhhhhhhh :hurl: in her recipes and persona. I don't think she's on anymore.

I did see that Dinner Impossible episode, and I agree, the menus could have been more diverse, but they were cooking for young kids. As the uproar by parents when Disney tried to steer away from that type of food showed, most little snowflakes will only eat things like chicken nuggets and pizza unfortunately.

I LOVED the idea of the monorail diner btw.

Nah- you wouldn't get fat!

But I would love to see your idea happen - good one!

Oh, I'm sure the right person will come along in management someday. :animwink:

My first choice would be to replace Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary with a version of the Monorail Cafe. But if it were to go the 24-hour diner with the Monorail dining cars route, I'd agree that it'd be well placed at either Downtown Disney or the upcoming Flamingo Crossings (please Disney, change that name, or better yet, don't build it). Provided, of course, they expanded the Monorail out there! The Transportation & Ticket Center would also be a decent choice, I think might be a potential market for it there.

Flamingo Crossings? I can't believe they would call ANYTHING that! That is terrible! Is that the trailer-park resort they are planning?

Greetings from Asbury Park...OK, Tinton Falls, but we share the same ZIP so don't get semantic.

While I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a diner somewhere on property (it makes sense to me that it's be somewhere accessible by bus from any resort, be it DTD, the TTC, or just outside one of the parks (I like the idea of a Baloo's Diner just outside Animal Kingdom, do we really need two Rainforest Cafes?), I wonder if a 24-hr one will be necessary, especially with Pleasure Island going extinct. The cool thin about diners is going there before you go home from whatever nightlife you were enjoying.

On the flip side, I can also see one being so popular (especially after really late EMH) that there'd be days with ridiculously long lines, followed by days where there's more staff than customers. Probably more the former than the latter.

I think a more sensible solution would be an on-site all-night delivery service. I'm pretty sure there are off-site joints, like Domino's, that will deliver on site (unlike other non-Disney resorts, though, you won't find the numbers at the front desk or in a free handout right next to check-in. Disney wants you to spend money at Disney, period...er, I mean, they don't want the real world to infringe upon the magic. ). And I know all the resorts all have at least pizza delivery, but it's not 24-hr. Maybe if there were a single on-site eatery that delivered all sorts of comfort foods, either delivered to the room or the pool area, or a section of the lobby designated as a delivery-dining area.

Trust me, this is coming from a big diner fan. In fact, you find yourself in Eatontown, head on down to the All Season's Diner, try one of their buffalo burgers, and save room for a chocolate mousse flying saucer. Though my wife, a transplant from Upper Freehold, would want me to give a shout-out to the French Toast at Mastori's, the "hedge maze labyrinth in the Shining" of diners (so huge, so winding, so easy to get lost).

This thread had me thinking. I love to find little hole in the wall individual places to eat. How cool would it be if they could put a whole bunch of "signature' local places in one spot. Sort of like an World Showcase of local dives. Places like White Manna in Hackensack NJ, Nick Tahou Hots in Rochester NY, Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans, and Papaya King in Manhattan - how cool (and fattening) would that be :) Maybe they build a health club next to it.

I am so thankful I made it out of four years of college in Rochester and a further year working there without EVER having eaten a "Garbage Plate" there... :hurl: Thank you veganism...

But a Disney pub-diner-geek meeting place would be so great! Disney trivia contests à la NTN at Buffalo Wild Wings or other places?!?!

COME ON! What a blast!!

I never went to college in Rochester, or lived or worked in Rochester, but I have eaten a number of Garbage Plates :)

Woo Hoo Dandelion Days :)
