2015 Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

I've never been to this event or the Christmas one. I think the last time we looked at pricing for the Christmas one, it was in the $50-$60 range (maybe 5 years ago?) We have annual passes every other year, and thought we might do one of these in the off year to get a little Disney fix. After reading all these comments about how crowded it is and so forth, I'm a little discouraged. I don't need to be a superfan LOL.

It varies from night to night, but honestly it's not that crowded overall, it's just that most of the people in the party will want to see the parades, fireworks, and special characters and thus those activities are pretty heavily attended. The hub stays pretty packed for the first couple hours but the rest of the park does not. If you don't care about waiting in line for Jack and Sally and are content waiting for the second parade it's not bad at all.

Besides, other people in costume are a big part of the reason to go.

Am i missing the point of this? What is the $70 getting above and beyond original hard ticket event? Are you getting $70 worth of desserts? I don't see the parade/fireworks viewing spots adding any value what-so-ever.

The Soiree sounds so much better, just based on this description. That event took place in the castle, with more and better characters than any meal you could find elsewhere on property, and a live performance. It was a 90+ minute experience with some take home souvenirs + the reserved fireworks and parade viewings. Plus if you took the second seating (as I did), you technically got to spend more time in the park. This is just dessert (maybe not as good?) and reserved viewing. True, the Soiree cost $30 more, but I see even less value for what is largely just a brief dessert buffet with minimal theming. Maybe others will see the value in it? Maybe the margin will be higher for Disney by not paying for all the characters? This feels like a major let down in comparison.

Glad I did the Soiree when it was offered.

OK - that's helpful - I can't remember the last time we sat for a parade or fireworks (other than Illuminations.) That's usually our "go on every ride with no wait" moment LOL. So the theming and other peoples' costumes could be fun. I used to get into making very original costumes, but it's been well over a decade, probably wouldn't do that - wouldn't want to be burdened with not fitting places or being uncomfortable, messing up make-up, etc. I'd rather just go hang.

I'm thinking - our last trip for awhile on our AP will be mid-January 2015, and we'll get a new AP around Christmas 2016. Probably can't go wrong making a day/overnight trip - have lunch at one of the resorts, go to MNSSHP (should be able to get Disney Visa discount and easily pay for it with points) ride everything while everybody else is watching stuff, and either get a room on points or sleep off property. Ta-da!

The value this year is for those that want to pay their way out of waiting for a spot for the parade and fireworks.

It may seem like a major let down, but Disney was met head on by guests last year who showed and voiced their displeasure at not having what was advertised to them throughout the summer, only to have it go into a high $ ticketed event, within a ticketed event. Disney gave back the villains to the people this year and is giving the rest of you who want to buy your way out of waiting for the parade and fireworks, a cupcake! For $69/person! Enjoy.

While I never attended the MNSSSH, am I the only person who would mostly want to visit WDW besides Universal's Halloween Horror Nights? I guess it's due to how intense some of the stuff they have during the night compared to WDW. Than again it's only for guests 18 and older and mostly have R rated horror movie theme attractions.
Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios is not limited to those 18 and over. It is recommended for those over 13 years of age but is not limited.

We will, twice once the 1st and 6th. A nice safe, dry place out of the rain with assigned seats. Oh and we're doing the normal dessert party on the 5th too.

Why on earth would you pay $70 for the party and then a further $70 to be locked away from 7:30 to 10:30? What did the first $70 go toward? Certainly not meet and greets, candy, or rides.

Everyone's situation is different. We're AP holders so we're not there for a once in a life time experience, I've seen quite a few iterations of Perimeter fireworks and the view from the Contemporary, Narcosee's, or TTC dock is much better to observe their breadth. We're older (I've been coming to the Magic Kingdom of over 43 years) so a place to sit with decent refreshments is a good thing. My wife is retired, I've retired once and am working on my second one. I'm quite sure you'd blanch at paying for the Soiree, or Party for the Senses as well.

Yes, but I only do deluxes which other people find crazy. Everyone chooses their luxuries. It just seems like a LOT of money for candy corn cupcakes when you get Elsa cupcakes the night before for $50. But that's just my opinion. Obviously people will pay.

The current event is just another cash grab in the grand tradition of WDW cash grabs, I just don't have the words to describe the naked cynicism of this move on TWDC's part.

Been to the Halloween Party many times and the reason they sell out most nights is because they limit the amount of people in the park. And like other posts have noted, there are PLENTY of good viewing spots for the parade. So it comes down to $70 for desserts....not a good deal in my book. :(

Im going to the first MNSH Party on the 15th. I get there the 8th, do you guys think Halloween Decorations will be up by then. I remember going on Sept 2nd a few years ago and they were up but the first MNSH Party was the 1st that year so they had to be up.
