2014: What's in store?

Alright Disney, you want people to spend more money and out of line?? I'm literally behind someone right now at Maelstrom that is shopping Harry Potter merchandise on her phone.
You misunderstood her intentions, I think. She's really planning on turning one of the oil rigs on the ride into a horcrux!

Either that or she is scheduling her butter beer 60 days in advance. :p

Yeah, I guess I've been lucky. Seems like there'd be some sort of requirement for the spiel jobs, like English?

We had a black, British, female gangster earlier this year. Ohhhhh it was a hoot. In the sense that It made no sense whatsoever. Her British accent was very prominent. I really thought the CM's were playing some kind of joke. If it was anybodys first time riding they must have been seriously confused. My brother just got back and mentioned they had a very overweight woman gangster and it was bad. She moved pretty slow.

No argument on the volume. And I conceded the female gangsters are good ... but on a ride that prides itself on authenticity (to the point of using part of the actual plane from Casablanca), seeing a woman gangster in what's supposed to be a 1930s-40s movie feels like a glaring anachronism. Like when I used to see the wires on the instruments in Madame Leotta's room. Takes me right out of my suspension of disbelief.

Of course, the car not working does that too. :banghead:

The problem with GMR is that as it's primarily a ride operation, the only requirements to work it are those necessary to work any ride. In other words, appropriate casting, ability to act or pull off an accent, actual familiarity with the movies involved, or even English as a first language aren't really requirements. It'd be nice if this ride or Jungle Cruise actually went through some sort of casting process, though.

You'd think they would (I know they don't).

But, considering the ride operator is such a large part of the experience...you'd think they'd pay more attention to casting and training.

The other issue is the sound system in the takeover scene. They need to add volume there desperately. I don't mind the female gangster as typically they're good.

Also, the car wasn't working yesterday.

I haven't seen the car working when I was there in at least 8 years.

Gangsters/cowboys tend to be good--although every time I get a female gangster (and I have two close friends who played the role), it completely takes me out of the ride. But at least they still get into it.

Tour guides are 50/50 at best. It's a non-auditioned role, I've had guides who could barely talk above a whisper or speak English.

Too bad you can't ask for @joanna71985 much anymore-she's the best!

It would be only the third oldest movie.

Well it is supposed to celebrate Great Movies ... I can't think of any ones from the last 15 years, I would refer to as Great. Also lets get a Sister Act scene and maybe a Pulp Fiction one as well.

Get rid of the sorcerer hat ... Every time I go to Hollywood, CA I do not see that at the end of the street. :) It takes away from the view of Grauman's Chinese Theater I remembered as a kid... Move it somewhere else and make it a mister ....

In the interest of full disclosure, I did have a much better guide at Great Movie Ride today. Audio was an issue in the Cowboy scene as well, but at least the Cowboy was better.
