2014: What's in store?

I wouldn't be surprised to see a makeover on an existing attraction or a major refurb/upgrade. They've been doing those lately within a calendar year.
I went on The Great Movie Ride today. This ride is in such desperate need of a refurbishment. It's an E-Ticket attraction that has a script that comes off like it was written by a 6th grader that did a book report based off Wikipedia. We've consistently had bad cast members (largely a function of the script) and so many of the movies simply don't resonate with today's audience. I understand celebrating the history of movies, but moreso than any other Disney attraction right now, this has turned into a museum and that's exactly what Walt didn't want.

Breath some new life into the Studios with an overhaul to this classic and bring back the spirit of the ride that existed in 1989. Suggested changes:
  • New script with a bit of freedom, just not Jungle Cruise level freedom.
  • Definite removal of Tarzan
  • New Indiana Jones scene instead of Raiders of the Lost Hernia
  • New gangster/cowboy concepts. It doesn't have to be gangster or cowboys, just a replacement to this concept where the tour guide disappears and reappears later.
  • Replace Singing in the Rain or at the very least make it so Gene Kelly doesn't look like a corpse.
  • Alien can probably be replaced.
  • Major upgrade to film quality and film reel at the end.

Honestly, I've never really had a bad CM on this ride. Even recently, they've always given their all in the performance even when I'm the only one laughing and clapping. I do agree it does need updating to stuff that wasn't included in a contract with MGM back on opening day, haha.

Outside the montage, the most recent movie featured is 33 years old. And that's an outlier, most are at least 50 years old.

The only way I see to salvage it in anything approaching its current form is to confine it to Disney movies, primarily animated (let Mary Poppins slide in to save that scene). If you need a ride take-over, let Capt. Hook or Cruella DeVille do it.

Gangsters/cowboys tend to be good--although every time I get a female gangster (and I have two close friends who played the role), it completely takes me out of the ride. But at least they still get into it.

Tour guides are 50/50 at best. It's a non-auditioned role, I've had guides who could barely talk above a whisper or speak English.

Yeah, I guess I've been lucky. Seems like there'd be some sort of requirement for the spiel jobs, like English?

The other issue is the sound system in the takeover scene. They need to add volume there desperately. I don't mind the female gangster as typically they're good.

Also, the car wasn't working yesterday.

No argument on the volume. And I conceded the female gangsters are good ... but on a ride that prides itself on authenticity (to the point of using part of the actual plane from Casablanca), seeing a woman gangster in what's supposed to be a 1930s-40s movie feels like a glaring anachronism. Like when I used to see the wires on the instruments in Madame Leotta's room. Takes me right out of my suspension of disbelief.

Of course, the car not working does that too. :banghead:

We had a black, British, female gangster earlier this year. Ohhhhh it was a hoot. In the sense that It made no sense whatsoever. Her British accent was very prominent. I really thought the CM's were playing some kind of joke. If it was anybodys first time riding they must have been seriously confused. My brother just got back and mentioned they had a very overweight woman gangster and it was bad. She moved pretty slow.

I'll clarify. I had a lousy male actor in the role yesterday. The role should be male, but I would rather have a good female actress playing that role than a bad male actor just for the sake of authenticity.

A good moll is as just as good as a gangster but they NEED a good Brooklyn or Chicago accent.
