That food looks delicious!!! So hungry right now, but I went to the dentist and I'm afraid I might bite off a chunk of my tongue trying to eat.

Here's Kylie's cousin...Kricket was feeling left out since I sent the pic of Jaeger.

Emerging from lurkdom to say I'm loving your report - thanks for returning to finish.

Frankie Bones. Sinatra/Rat Pack themed
oh man...my type of place. LOVE that. :inlove:

The point is: I remembered how important it was to us when we bought this house to be close to "everything." But how often do we go see everything? Everything is starting to be loud at night and stuff lol.
Too funny...we're way the heck out west and make that drive to east side all the time. We always say we should buy out that way so we could be "close to everything" lol, but insurance is crazy and we're definitely not condo people..sooo we stay in SuburbiaLand and just do the drive to the beach and Las Olas. But we're pretty much over the clubs as well. That must be a bit of a commute to your 2nd store.

So the only mystery remaining is: what the heck was Gary's fascination with Disney buffets? :cautious:
"So Gary calls us both last night, on speaker, on wine, and weirdly asks, "What kind of buffets do they have at Disney?" And I thought, "Why would he ask that? Is he going to Disney?"

Did you see my first guess in the list was right? Lobster. This was the sweetest.

They had a lobster and pasta dish (remember how I was going to get that at Flying Fish and they changed the menu like the day before?) and it was, well, nothing like Grandma’s but a similar idea and delicious!

I’ll fill in details later - just pics for now...

OK how self-satisfied does Brian look in that first pic of him?!

And he should. This whole thing was adorable.

I know the thought process. I know the effort. I know the expense.

He knew the manager (sort of.) The restaurant business is a small world. He works with someone who was close with the manager when he was a bartender. So we were really well taken care of, from the complimentary amuse bouche (that's the little salmon ball in the early pic) to the end.

He was trying to get me my Grandma's "lobster gravy." :inlove:

This was not that, but it was very good. It was a tomato based sauce as our server had said, however there had to be some kind of cream in it as well. It was velvety. And very rich. It was fantastic with the lobster in the same bite, but less so by itself. I ended up taking some of the pasta home, and the next day I added maybe a tablespoon of tomato sauce to it. That made all the difference. A little more "tomato-y" to suit my taste. Delish.

Brian started by ordering champagne.

The appetizer was a grilled octopus (as first introduced to us at the WDW F&W lunch special in Mexico.) It was fantastic.

The big metal octopus, we were told by the manager, is their unofficial mascot - which cost them $18,000.00.

He had a filet with truffle butter, and we shared a serving of roasted brussels sprouts and an unusual breaded and fried potato that was pretty cool. The server jokingly referred to them as "tater tots" but they are a step up from that for sure.

A wonderful night. And now I'm 47. And I'll be older than my husband until he catches up to me in precisely three months.

There is still so much between April and now that has been left out. We strongly considered a trip to DL in July. Although it was "just a piece of paper," it was July 15, 2008, when we got our official marriage license in California (after our "real wedding" the previous September - I know, every day is an anniversary LOL) and we went to DL for one day as our "second honeymoon." I feel we missed some things, and that would have been a perfect time to go back (ten years later.)

But since opening the second store, although it's exceeding expectations in sales, it was still a big financial investment to get the fixtures and the inventory, and I'm anxious until I pay that down. In addition, the company that was hired to manage Margaritaville in Hollywood for Jimmy Buffet was replaced with another company back in April. Management (including Brian) were all told they'd either get an offer letter by Easter to stay on, or not. They all got an offer letter, but I was concerned. He was the most recent hire, and his position didn't exist before they hired him.

In July, my suspicions were confirmed. The new company decided his position was redundant, and that they should have one Food & Beverage manager as opposed to one Restaurant manager and one Beverage manager. They let him go. They were very nice about it; they gave him printed out job openings, a little severance, and even his vacation pay, which technically he wouldn't have earned for about another month.

This was no time to go to DL.

Fortunately, the Stadium where he used to work took him back right away. It was actually perfect timing for when they would normally start prepping for season. The biggest downside: no benefits. But we dodged a bullet as far as having no interruption in income.

Now there is another opportunity on the horizon for him, we are waiting to hear back, but it sounded very good, with benefits, and much easier on his poor diabetic feet. (And closer to home!) A formal offer has not been made yet, we are hoping this week.

And with all this bouncing around (I told you there would be flashbacks and flash forwards, etc.) I still have to get back to the end of the Disney Springs Bachelor Party trip...but I think I'm jonesing right now and may have to go up Wednesday...

OK, just like last week, the event (my bday last week, our anniversary this week) falls on a Friday, but Brian has to work, so once again the celebration day is Wednesday.

Trying not to spend a lot. Summer sales are slow, and September is the slowest.

My original idea: rent a convertible (it's only like $60 for the day) drive to Islamorada Wednesday morning (2 hours) have an overboard lunch, hang out a bit, don't get a room, and drive back. This can be done either with or without the pup. (I think she'd love a ride in a convertible, and the excellent restaurant at mile marker 88 has outdoor seating where she can stay with us.

Upgrades: get a room. Get a pet-friendly room. Go down Tuesday night. Stay Wednesday night. Rooms average $100-$125 per night right now, but all these prices I'm quoting could change quickly because this is all last minute.

Then I was reading how dead it is at WDW right now, and this is when we usually go.

Budget Disney trip: same convertible, drive 3 hours each way instead of two. Drive up for a nice meal, hang out, drive 3 hours back. Don't get a room.

Upgrades: get a room. Get a pet-friendly room. Go up Tuesday night. Stay Wednesday night. Can book La Quinta (pet friendly) for like $60 (Tuesday night) and can book Port Orleans Riverside (pet friendly) with AP discount for like $155 for Wednesday night plus $50 for Kylie. (Plus Best Friends Pet Care day care for Wednesday.)

That would be all on points except for the car and La Quinta. Or just skip Tuesday night and drive up Wednesday morning, come home Thursday morning.

We would have one park day if we activate our passes. (If we don't, FL resident rate just makes the room $10 more.) Extra days on the car at $60 per day.

I presume that park day would include Epcot for F&W, and hop somewhere else. The only special F&W lunch on the 5th is the Mediterranean one at Morocco. No idea how that would be, but if it's almost as good as the Mexican one, that's awesome (assuming availability.)

Help!

Sorry to hear he lost his job, through no fault of his own. :(

Fortunately, the Stadium where he used to work took him back right away. It was actually perfect timing for when they would normally start prepping for season. The biggest downside: no benefits. But we dodged a bullet as far as having no interruption in income.

Talk about luck! At least he has something now to pull in some income.

Now there is another opportunity on the horizon for him, we are waiting to hear back, but it sounded very good, with benefits, and much easier on his poor diabetic feet. (And closer to home!) A formal offer has not been made yet, we are hoping this week.

I hope he gets this job, which will also give him benefits. I admire his determination to find something better. It's amazing how stressful the work world can be--puts many people through all kinds of changes. I wish him well.

Spice Road Table lunch pairing is back!

The two things up in the air this morning were whether we could get a F&W luncheon, and whether we could get BFPC. Everything else looked good, I even made a FP for Frozen LOL. Not expecting to get Toy Story, but if it happens, it happens.

As soon as B left for work, I called Disney Dining. It was about 9:30AM, they said they still had seating for the luncheon, and she was ready to take my non-refundable credit card payment.

First I had to confirm BFPC had availability. So I said I'd call back, and she said just talk to anyone who answers. BFPC took longer to get back to me, but they do have availability for day care on Wednesday. Booked that. Kylie's coming!

Called back to book Spice Road Table, got a different CM, she said there was nothing available. :eek:o_O:bored:

I didn't believe her, thought maybe just do the Keys thing after all, but I called right back. I thought I'd try again with a different CM.

While waiting for them to pick up, my phone beeped from an 800 number (telemarketers?) Something told me to answer it. It was the 2nd CM calling me back, saying I sounded so disappointed that she tried again a few more times after we hung up and was able to get us into the Spice Road Table luncheon!! Wow. I was impressed. I didn't just take the survey, I asked, "Who can I tell wonderful things about you?" And she transferred me to a supervisor. I did not expect her to call me back. That was so nice.

As for where to stay: because of my bunch of Chase points, I almost oversplurged and booked the Yacht Club for 2 nights. And if B was home right now, and we could leave by noon, I would totally have done it. But as things are, he is working until at least 5:30, he hasn't packed, and so we wouldn't be getting up there until 9 or 10PM. That made it feel like a "waste" to splurge on a Yacht Club room and then just sleep there without enjoying it during the day. So my practical side took over, and I booked the La Quinta after all for tonight. (I presume Brian knows now, because they probably sent him an email confirmation.) That way, nobody is in a rush, he gets home when he gets home, he packs, and we go up at a leisurely pace long after rush hour traffic. Kylie has been there before and is comfortable, and we get like a hard boiled egg for breakfast or something LOL.

Hopefully our streak continues and we get an early "room ready" text at Yacht Club. It's a bucket list place to stay, we've never stayed at a "walk to Epcot" resort before, and this will basically be a day at Epcot and probably a visit to HS. (In fact, I can stumble "home" from HS after visiting Julie at Tune-In Lounge, I hope she's there!) And Kylie can come!!!

Most likely, we will get out of La Quinta fairly early, take her to BFPC, and then head over to Disney, whether or not the room is ready. The Spice Road Table booking is from 1pm to 3pm. There may or may not be a fancy dinner as well.

omg we're going tonight!! Breaking the seal on those AP's LOL!! (And killing our points)

ETA: picking up the convertible "mustang or similar" at 2pm.
