Not only was it my first Disney movie, but my first movie period. That was Beauty and the Beast. And its pretty cool that my first ever movie ended up being a best picture nominee!

OK - raise your hand if you feel old just reading how someone's first movie was "on tape"

*sigh - I remember long before VCR's were invented!*

I saw that one when I was little too - The Apple Dumpling Gang that is!

They did a GREAT job on the DVD "Special Edition" of that one. Look for it. You will probably get emotional with the interviews and reunions that come on the second disc....

Anyhow, my earliest memory of seeing a Walt Disney feature film is a reissue of Old Yeller in the early seventies (I think), although I also saw it on Wonderful World. That film had a huge impact on me.

I think that they should reissue that one from time to time to theatres, for new generations to share on the big screen. Same for most of the best animated classics. The only other live-action one that I would reissue from time to time is "Mary Poppins"...

I also wish someone would give Wonderful World some TLC, and put it back on Sunday evenings, with a host. What they do these days, by just slapping the "Wonderful World" name around a Disney movie without a host, doesn't do much to build loyalty or excitement. And these comments on this post definitely show what an impact the excitement of anticipating a Disney program or movie can have on a child!

I totally agree with you Paul. There are so few shows that you can sit down as a family and watch and enjoy together now. I'm sure that for most of us of the "Baby Boomer" age, Sunday nights were always spent watching Walt Disney's Wondeful World of Color (I even remember watching it in B&W :o )
