I also recall there were some brainstorming ideas from last night which could tie in nicely with the park’s seaside setting. Like @Disney Dad 3000 mentioned a coastal boardwalk idea. Others (forget who) brought up that HKDL has no Pirates yet; make an entire Pirates land set overlooking the South China Sea!

Options like those, Atlantis, Polynesian islands a-la Moana, and many many more (like a Nemo kiddie land perhaps) could all fit beautifully.

Thanks for the invite this looks like so much fun! Since this is in Hong Kong, should the first step be to figure out what the people of Hong Kong prefer in their parks?
That sounds like a very good idea! We could look into what made Shanghai so successful, preferences of the people from Hong Kong, ideas that were scrapped due to budget, and what the future has in store for HKDL!

What about a park centered around literature, and each land corresponds to a famous author? There could be a mythology land, Jules Verne land, Avengers land (Stan Lee), and perhaps a Steamboat Willie land (Walt Disney). It would also be a great place to put a Lord of the Rings area, in the scenario Tolkien's family allows.

Good ideas. It's worth noting that Ocean Park in Hong Kong regularly out-performs HKDL. Ocean Park is a marine theme park somewhat like SeaWorld, one set largely atop a massive jungle mountain overlooking the seas with some spectacularly-placed roller coasters. The animal exhibits (aquariums, pandas, live shows) seem to be a major draw.

HKDL expansion plans presently involve lots of Marvel additions to Tomorrowland, and a Frozen-themed land behind Fantasyland. In the past they've considered expansions like "Glacier Bay," which would've been set indoors in a simulated wintertime environment.

Note that Hong Kong's weather is miserably hot and humid all summer long, possibly even worse than Florida. Locals get up late (HKDL opens at 10:30 AM) and they remain inactive for much of the daylight. Think India or Southeast Asia for climate and also for guests. Saw lots of visitors from Singapore, Thailand, India and Australia when I was there.

Lastly, the local Hong Kong culture is a mixture of Chinese and British. It's maybe the most westernized place in East Asia.

With the weather, an indoor park could work. It should be like that new Warner Bros World in Abu Dhabi, but more Disney, this means more immersive, better environments, more rides, more IPs, and larger.

Hey welcome! I'm not Pi, but I can say that for now everyone will most likely assemble here in this thread, and then if you find a land of the park that is interesting to you - then that land will probably become its own thread and you can brainstorm in a small group in that dedicated thread.

Welcome! You can get a nametag if you'd like to introduce yourself in the New Imagineer Introduction Thread!

Hey! Welcome! This thread is for anyone and everyone who wants to be involved. We're just gonna all work together to have fun and create a really cool second gate for Hong Kong Disneyland! Last year they created a dream castle park and it turned out amazing! Can't wait to see what we can all do this year!

If you're interested in armchair Imagineering, feel free to get involved in other threads too! The One Sentence Competition is always a good way to get involved (how I got started here) especially if you want something a little bit competitive and less open endeded. @Kman101 feel free to check out other threads or the one sentence competition too! Looks like you're gonna fit in great!

Thanks :)

I’m not sure if that would be the best way to go in this scenario, as the Second Gate would be blessed with a magnificent view of the sea, plus the mountains that surrounds it.

Setting portions of the park indoors could work. Mermaid Lagoon at DisneySea is a good example. That way there's an escape from heat and rain while much of the park remains in the beautiful outdoors.

So you’re suggesting a second Avengers land? Any ideas on what you want to use?
I hadn’t heard an idea that great since putting screen doors on submarines.
If everyone really wants to add a LOTR area, it would be more likely now, as from what J read the other day at IU, it seems that those who are in charge nowadays of Tolkien’s State are looking for easy money. And the franchise is big in Australia whose citizens visit HKDL according to D, and citizens from Hong Kong love British Culture, so it would be a win-win scenario?

Some quickie site analysis.

enhance

The Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is located on Lantau Island between the airport and Hong Kong. By public metro, you can easily travel from downtown to the park gate in under 20 minutes.

Lantau feels isolated, like a tropical Hawaiian island. The resort is built upon landfill in a secluded cove south of a short mountain range.

The resort is laid out tightly. Parking and public metro arrive north of Disneyland. Hotels are to the south (note one undeveloped hotel space remaining). A pedestrian corridor connects these areas. Trams travel Disneyland's western perimeter to ferry hotel guests to the northern entry area if they don't wish to walk. Intriguingly, there's an underutilized pier on the southern coast.

Note the blue area in the corridor near parking - this is the "esplanade" area which is already designed to accommodate second gate entry. At the esplanade's center is a statue of Mickey surfing atop a whale.

I think this resort layout leaves us great opportunities! The second gate expansion could include new hotels and a Disney Springs shopping district along the pedestrian corridor. The pier has great potential for something!

And remember that it's all landfill (the expansion pad land was added after HKDL's opening), so we can expand further into the seas if we need to.
