$100 a day? Soon. VERY soon.

Precisely.

There is a show on Broadway I have been waiting for them to do a revival of for fifteen years, and even though I live five states away, I was bound and determined to go. And then I looked at ticket prices - two decent tickets are going to run $300. For one show. And couple that with the travel (even if I went there and back the same day), I'm looking at minimum $500 (bare minimum).

So I'm not going.

Goto NYC.. and buy the tickets from the discount place in times square for 30-50% off. If you are flexible in time and show.. you can see a show for $50 or less.

Or buy a one-day ticket to DHS for $89 and enjoy all of the "Broadway" shows they have to offer. It's a timeless slate of shows that have outlast most shows on the Great White Way. ;)

But this is how Disney does things and it is something I have constantly battled here (and elsewhere) with the 'WDW has never been better crowd.'

Disney, in Orlando, works on a business model where you continually raise prices and lower quantity and quality when it comes to most everything, but certainly F&B.
My first example of this personally hitting home came over a decade ago at MK's Columbia Harbor House, which was once a favorite dining locale.

I registered on WDWMagic about five years ago, but I've lurked here since the beginning. I've always been amused by how truth-tellers such as yourself are always bashed as haters and that so many, although a lot less all of the sudden, have rose colored glasses. You point out extremely valid concerns about the degradation of quality, the increased cost, and all around nose dive in the product. I constantly see (although less now) the "if you don't like it, then don't visit." The point is that you do like the product so much and have seen before your eyes the systematic crumbling of the property. Disney has licensed and diluted the brand so much in the name of profit that I just don't see it having that special meaning to my children as it has for us.

Lots of our issues with quality began before the DDP as well. Back then, if you complained you were just nit-picking. I'd tell people that no, it's not nit-picking, it's realizing that this is only the beginning of what is going to be taken away or cut back and you'll end up seeing several years down the road how strip mined it's going to be. When we were at IoA for the grand opening and then saw the pile of garbage that they put into Imagination at Epcot, it was very clear 13 years ago that it was never going to be as good as it used to.

Well.. if you assume Disney will raise prices higher than normal after FLE opens.. a significant jump.. say even just $8 or more.. it would only take 2-3 more years of only minimalist incremental increases to hit $100.

I think the story is 'Disney looking to jack prices in a big step...' and probably once they can justify it to themselves with FLE and maybe some other announcements.

It was not directed at you or anyone in particular but a notion of what society loves to do with everything else so why would it change for vacation. My apologies if you thought I was directing it toward you.
No, I never thought it was directed at me. No apologies necessary. In fact I'm the one that should apologize. I am just trying to keep the converstion going (insert profanity here). I have gone too far for a newbie. If anyone needs to apologize, it's me. I'm the one that forgot about day tickets:) , I'm the one that forgot about the 54,000 work force...I'm the one that's uninformed. I actually care about what happens at wdw. No apologies necessary, it is my fault. Back on topic; the OP started with this "$100 a day? Soon. VERY soon".
Soon? How soon? (insert profanity here). It's worth a discussion.

And to contrast yours, i don't know anyone who has taken a trip recently to WDW who has only gone for 1 day...and most are first time or havent been in ages visitors...I am sure it all balances out somehow

I am actually going next month and doing Magic Kingdom for 1 day. I have not been there in 14 years and at that time I did not have my girls. We will be down there on vacation staying offsite and we will be taking our girls for 1 day to Magic Kingdom. Its going to be costly to get in, but they are at a good age, and who knows when I will be able to do it again.

Ummm...they don't even compare. Whether or not you "like" a particular show on Broadway, they are far superior than anything Disney has put on in its parks...and that includes Aladdin at DCA. You might as well compare a high school's version of the Wizard of Oz with Wicked while you're at it.

But since guests from that part of the world are such a tiny piece of the pie, I'd surmise that WDW cares about their views even less than ours ... well, except when they come and drop an obscene amount of money to be married at WDW.

Or when they drop an obscene amount of money on our clearly-inferior-yet-apparently-still-irresistible Duffy merchandise.

I wanted to make a quick purchase of a single item on my last trip, and was stuck behind two young women who looked like they'd cleared out the racks of every single World Showcase Duffy costume (the country costumes from Mexico, China, Canada, etc.), plus a number of the Food & Wine Duffy plush. (I thought WDW imposed some limit on Duffy purchases, no? Maybe that was before sales of the merchandise failed to live up to expectations.)

I can only wonder what the security screeners at the airport thought when peeking into their suitcases...

The security screeners looked inside the bags and scratched their heads and thought "Why no Hello Kitty plush?"

Was going to head over for a day while I was down in FL for T'giving .. haha. I don't think so. 2 adults, 2 kids plus meals and misc - we'd be hovering around $450 for one day at MK. Wow. When we go for a week though it costs up around 3500-3750 .. not much different from $450/day .. surprise, surprise

You guys weren't kidding when you said there were one day/one park guests.
It is no longer anectdotal evidence only. It's proof positive.
It's truely something to think about.

Yeah, I was joking. Thus the ;)

Just got back from Vietnam and re-read the thread.
Is it true there is no up tick in price since I have been gone? $100/day/person/park after two weeks?
Here I thought it would be $140/person by the time I got back.
This is a bit troll like, I know, but I like the conversation.
How big is the pie?

Disney possibly wanting to cross the $100 barrier as a one day base price doesn't shock me at all. What shocks me is that they haven't implemented some sort of pricing scheme yet where you'd pay more based on the parks you wanted to visit, something tied in with they NextGen project. Plan on visiting MK 3 times but Epcot, DHS, and AK only once? You're going to pay more than if you planned to do MK twice, DHS twice, and Epcot/AK once.

I think the issue is that in the USA, WDW ticket prices have far exceeded the inflation rate. So while the cost of everything goes up, WDW has gone up much more, relatively speaking.

All while the product offered in 2012 is essentially the same (and in many cases lesser quality) than what was offered in 2008. So it is certainly something to be concerned with.

And I don't think it makes it any better that Sea World and Uni raise their prices in step with WDW either.

In 2008, I purchased a 10-day pass with park hopper and no-expiration options for about $468.00 with tax. Luckily, I still have 2 days left on the pass.

I was actually wondering why couldn't Disney offer a ticket structure based on age. Maybe they do? I like the teen rate thing. And TDR's rates vs. WDW, amazing...

I believe that I have seen the pricing sturcture based on Adults and Children under whatever age they mentioned.
