1 week away & you guys have me thinking ...

that I may have made a mistake by booking my wife and I for 8 nights at Coronado Springs instead of Port Orleans FQ or RS.

This will be our last vacation together before we start trying to have children. We are scheduled to arrive on Saturday the 18th so I have 1 week to try and make a resort change.

I am not worried too much about the size of the resort but don't really want to be around a whole lot of "conventioners" if I can avoid it.

What should I do?

I am a PO (FQ and RS) raver, however I have stayed at CSR and really enjoyed it. Since you sound hesitant I would call and give it a shot. If it doesn't work out, you will still not be disappointed with CSR. The place I found to be hectic (and confusing) was the food court, but they do have a place where you can just buy stuff and take it back AND they have room service.... Room service isn't cheap, but my mom and I were on a girls only trip and thought it was worth the convenience and time to order room service breakfast! You are in a win-win! Have fun!!

Man, don't sweat it! Everything I've read says that CS is PERFECT for an adult couple. There's not as many kids and you'll get to relax in a more quiet atmosphere because it's so spread out!

Here's the only convention while you're in town at the CS:
Jul 21-23, D.A.R.E. International Training Conference

As a former cop, they do get a bit rowdy, but you can expect less ruckus than you would expect from say... the moose lodge national convention! :)

This is a great website that Buzz from the forums setup. It has everything you'd ever want to know about Coronado Springs. http://coronado_springs.tripod.com/

Here's about the same setup just for Port Orleans. http://www.portorleans.org/

You'll have fun regardless of where you are!

I'm sure it won't matter where you stay, but I've heard that POFQ is a more romantic resort. Might set the tone better.

Good luck on the baby making. Parenthood is a great adventure and some day you'll be able to share the magic with them.

We have stayed at CS many times and have never had a problem. It is actually our favorite resort because the buses are never crowded because it is mainly conventioneers that stay there. The CS at the resort is very good. Imho it one of the best at WDW.

I would try two different hotels. Since you don't have children switching hotels is easy. They'll move your bags for you and don't worry about the fees, just tell em you can't stand where your staying and would like to switch resorts. Maybe stay four days at CS and try one of the other hotels you were interested in. Personally I like Riverside a little better, but it's a lot bigger than FQ. The theme and the food court are much better IMO.
I like CBR as well, they just renovated their rooms and they have beaches which is cool when your just hanging with your girl. The tropical theme is a plus. I would check out as many hotels as you can, that way when you come back with kids (possibly) you will have a good feel for the resorts. Have fun!!

Are you on the DDP? This would be the one BIG factor in trying to switch if I were you. We stayed at CS is March and I thought it was a great resort (even with 3yr & 6yr old boys). The pool is great and the area around the lake is very peaceful.
Back to the DDP ? If you are on the dinning plan I would suggest either Port Orleans only for the fact that the Counter service is much better at PO than at CS. But on the other hand I would have to say that the Maya grill is BY FAR the best deal of any table service with dining plan on Disney property.

Yeah, we are on the DDP & my wife is really looking forward to the restaurants at Coronado Springs.

I really appreciate all of the input from everyone - I think we are just going to stay with what we have this trip, walk-through some other resorts & get an idea of what we like & don't like, & maybe stay somewhere else the next time we visit.

Thanks again for all of your help! It is great to be able to come to a message board like this & receive true, honest feedback from people who care about your vacation almost as much as you do!

We can't wait (at least I can't) to get to WDW! :)

Really now? I've not heard anyone else say that... you're probably the first out of 20 people that i've seen say it was worth having.

Yeah, I've never heard that before either. Can you elaborate further Flydisco?

We had not been there until our last trip in March. I think one of the only reasons we ate there was because we stayed at Coronado.
They had a combo platter on the menu (which ironically now I do not see on the website menu) that had steak, catch of the day and St Louis style Ribs. If you factor in the cost for a non-signature dining restaurant and the amount of food you get it is a DDP deal. Our bill for 2 adults and 2 children was close to $130. We did really enjoy the food and the atmosphere, not to mention the margaritas were awesome.
I look at the food quality, atmosphere and price when rating our DDP experiences and this one is at the top.
I believe there are signature dining places that use 2 TS meals that are not as good, and are close to the same cost, as Maya Grill.
Remember that this is just one mans opinion.

Hey there Disco, I have to tell you I have never eaten at Maya Grill for dinner but I do enjoy the breakfast buffet. I enjoy a nice sit down breakfast (meaning restaurant style, not food court type) Between that, the queen sized beds in the rooms, and the nightclub, Rix's Lounge, this is truly the "Deluxe" Moderate these days. To the OP I would say, please really dont worry I think Coronado will at least meet, if not surpass your expectations. Belle

You know, this is a good point now that I think about it. If you google "Disney Maya Grill" there are a lot of reviews out there... some of them very positive. I'm beginning to think Maya might be a hidden gem in that it's signature style dining without using two credits!

That is what I was trying to say in a nutshell.
I think the only thing keeping it from being mentioned more often is that people do not just pop in to visit CS like they do Poly or WL.

Thanks for all the advice!

We are going to stay in Coronado Springs - hopefully get one of the updated rooms with a queen bed & a flat screen tv - & check out some of the other resorts to see where we might want to stay next time.

We will be arriving Saturday the 18th!!

Speaking of flatscreen tv, is this something that all the resort rooms will have sooner or later? I know at Saratoga we noticed last year that they are pretty small not flatscreen (well in the studios we noticed this) while we stayed at WL in the studios this past Jan,we noticed that the studios there as well had the same size as SS but the rooms in the lodge area(not DVC) were good size flatscreen..What gives?? just out of curiosity?
