‘Glow With the Show’ Ears Coming to Walt Disney World Resort This Fall

The special viewing areas serve two benefits...

1) they give incentive to buy the hats (get better seats!)
2) they concentrate the effect giving a bit of 'critical mass'

But at WDW they already have the FP+ areas to deal with.. I question if they would do special seating areas just for this (but F! is a prime example where it could be done).

I'm sure there are plenty of people willing to blow their money on disney trinkets that will buy these things. I just question if they'll hit critical mass. The technology is AWESOME - the hats themselves?? No so much.

The hats really need to hit a critical mass to sustain themselves. At DLR who has a much more ravid fan base they still struggle to find that mass.

I'm so happy that these hats will will finally be available at WDW I sure can't wait till my next Disney trip to get one of these hats. I always thought this concept was a great idea and I can't wait to see them work with the Osborne lights at the Studios lighting in beat to Christmas Classics.

Probably wouldn't work as the crowd for IllumiNations is too spread out for the desired effect to work. It needs a lot of people in a dark space. Perhaps this is why MSEP doesn't work? Too bright?

For MSEP, could it simply be that they don't see the point in setting up the program since it is going to go offline for a while to get refurbed next year? Maybe they will add it to the "new" MSEP next summer, especially if it has any new or different floats.

The only way this will work better than it did at Disneyland is for TDO to NOT try and gorge the guests out of even more money for these hats.

Make them cheap enough for a family of 4 to NOT flinch when these purchase one for everyone in the family.

Maybe even sell them at a 10% margin. The guests will then feel as if they are getting a bargain and they will still cover their costs PLUS (that seems to be a BUZZ word right now!) and this will not become another failed project and might actually add some real Magic back to the Magic Kingdom.

Agreed. It'll stink if greed squanders what is actually a really cool idea.

Assuming that the tech in each is the same, I wonder if they'd consider selling *both* the wands and the ears. Wand... Ears... It's all a sea of color-changing lights.

(OK, someone fly to Tokyo, buy a wand, bring it back and see if it works in Disneyland or WDW...)

I thought that's where they would be heading with this... I thought they'd be coming out with a whole range of different Glow with the Show things. I could see it being somewhat successful as an upcharge on various items. Already going to buy a purse? Buy this GwtS for $5 more! Want a pin lanyard? $3 more.

The technology is really cool, but I don't think it will catch on like this. I just hope they can find some way to make it work. Imagine if all the MSUSA facades had lights embedded in them so you couldn't see them during the day, but everything sprung to life as soon as the parade rolled by...

Always the ray of sunshine...

Just curious how you know nobody will buy them? Comparing them to Tonto hats made for a movie (an awful one at that) is a bit of a stretch.
I'm not usually one to side with our dear '74, but from personal experience from DL in July there were about a dozen in the crowd for WoC. Also, our family balked at the $25 price tag ($75 for the whole family) for something we were going to use probably once.

The price point for the hat is way to high. Personally, it would need to be in $10-$15 range to get us to buy them.

They actually did this in Disneyland for the ill-fated Light Magic. They embedded fiber-optics in the canopies and facades of the buildings on Main Street. Unfortunately, in trying to erase any evidence of Light Magic after it failed, they ripped it all back out.

That would be cool if all the facades along the parade route, even trees, had lights to interact with the parades!
