Princess dress?

So, my three year old has been sucked in by all the marketing and has informed me that she wants to be a princess. So, what's a mama to do... take out the credit card and get her a makeover at the BBB! Don't know much about the BBB b/c this will be first time but I plan on getting the cheapest package and bringing my own dress!

My question is about the dress...
I live in NL, Canada so there are no Disney stores near me. The only place to buy princess dresses are at Toys R Us and I think Walmart sometimes carries the select few. I picked up an Aurora dress for around $36 at Toys R Us but after taking it home I think it's going to be too itchy for her. She does NOT like the itchy material on those dress-up costumes. So what's my best option here?
Are the dresses at Disney better quality (I'm sure they're more expensive)? What would be the least "itchy" dress? And what would be the least warm dress as we'll be traveling in Aug. (now she won't be wearing it all day but she will want to wear it for awhile)?

Her favorite princess is Aurora but I'm sure she wouldn't mind another princess type dress! She just wants to be a princess!!!:)

Do you have a Target near you? That is where I have always bought our princess dresses. The quality is pretty good...I've never really looked at the ones at WDW so I can't give you a direct comparison, but we have been very happy with the ones from Target...they do not look cheap, and they are well made. They usually have all of the popular ones in stock....Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Belle.

We've always put a lightweight white t-shirt under our DD's dress to help with any itchyness.

Nope, no Target here!:( Not much of anything here!

But the t-shirt idea is a good one... never thought of that (duh!)!

EBAY! I found a leotard style dress there for my little pincess for our trip two Sept ago. Short and no long sleeves much better for hot hot hot August. My DD is 4 now and is STILL a princess. If she only knew her phonics as well as her princess facts....:p

There are about 20 other listed for about 20 and under but look like they too may be itchy. We have an itcky Tinkerbell costume and I need to get it out of the house so I don't have to wrestle her out of it:p

Good Luck!

Another vote for ebay. You can even find ones on there that are from WDW. For our last trip I went on ebay and bought lots of outfits for my 15 month old ds before our trip. Most outfits were still available at WDW but I only paid about 99 cents to $3.00 for each outfit. Huge savings compared to the $30+ they want for them. They were all in excellent condition too.

I vote for Ebay too. My DD was 2 last December and would not wear the princess dresses either!

I have heard wonderful things about the dresses at WDW. From just looking at them myself, I know you really can't compare the attention to detail, etc. But I don't know if they are any less itchy!

As a solution last December my DD wore her pettiskirt (sp?) with her princess tshirt to the Norway princess breakfast. Here is a pic. She called it her "princess skirt" anyway. You can get them on Ebay, but they are pricey.

Now, 6 months later, she loves her princess dresses and will be wearing them in June! (probably sweating to death....)
Also - just an idea - if you can get some "home made" dresses on Ebay or etsy.com - ones made with cotton fabric, ie. Snow White, etc. - they will obviously not be itchy at all!

ETA - try the seller - itshandmadebymelanie - on etsy.com She made a "Wendy" dress for me for Halloween (DS was Peter Pan and DD was Tinkerbell) and it was made of the softest material! Definately NO itching!

Thanks for all the ebay suggestions! I'm going to start searching! I like the idea of getting a princess themed dress instead of a costume type dress.

Again, thanks!

disneyshopping.com

We have bought at least a hundred princess dresses and the best deals are on disneyshopping.com. The costumes are often on sale and you can often get coupons if you sign up for their specials and the shipping is usually 5 $. I have found that the dresses online are much cheaper and cuter than the dresses at disney. They wash well on the hand wash cycle on my easher and hand to dry.

Again nope! No $5 shipping for Canadians... the shipping is horrible for Disneyshopping.com! And then the exchange rate and it's ends up being cheaper to actually buy the dress at Disney! But thanks for the tip! I may end up near a Disney Store in June so I'll check to see what they have!

When our daughter went to the BBB, we went to Walmart and got her a Snow White dress. It was around 25.00 and almost the same dress you would've got at Disney. She didnt have any itching problems, but as was already mentioned, a t shirt would solve that problem.

My daughter wears her costumes around the house on a daily basis and I am going to get her a new Cinderella costume for our meal at 1900 Park Fair, they have a real cute ballerina type one on the Disney Store site right now that looks like it may not be too warm for her to wear in August. Most of her cotumes we have gotten at target and the Disney Store and to be honest they are all pretty much the same quality. I have a question for those of you whose girls wear the outfits in the park, how long do they last in the summer? I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle of me carting around a costume after my daughter spends one hour in it and decides it's too hot. Do I maybe bring the costume along with me and have her put it on for photos? We have most of the princesses as well as Tink, do your girls wear a different costume each day or do they only wear their favorite on a special day? Thanks, sorry for intruding on the OP's question

Well, what we did was just have her put on the dress just for the BBB and then she wore it the rest of the night. The appt. she had was for 5:00 so after the BBB we went to dinner and just finished the day out at one of the parks. She still got to wear the dress a considerable amount of time, but it wasn't ALL day in the heat.

On my daughter's trip to BBB, she just wore a cute, comfortable sun dress.
I figured she would be uncomfortable all day in a hot, itchy princess dress.
We saved the princess dresses for the evening when it was not so hot.

Don't mind at all!

What time do you all recommend I book an appt.? We don't have a princess meal booked but I'd like to take her down to see the princesses in ToonTown after she gets it down.

I don't know if there are TJ Maxx or Marshall's in Canada, but I just picked up a Ariel and Jasmine costume for $16.99 at my local Marshall's. The only thing is that they only seem to carry the 4-6 size costumes.

Good luck!
