MK Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

I am reminded of Rocket Rods as a cautionary tale...the biggest flop in Disney Theme Park History....that one ride took out 3 viable attractions (sound familiar?)...and then failed miserably... They have still not fully recovered from it....and it has been 25 years since it's closure...

Imagine if this bombed and we're stuck with a giant construction site dirt field in the middle of Magic Kingdom for a quarter century

I barely even understand what Lightning Lane is. It should not be dominating everything that gets built in the parks. I can't see this as a financially successful way of doing things.
keep in mind that this is hardly an all-new phenomenon - it all traces back to the NextGen initiative, the FastPass+ system it birthed being added to near any attraction with a moving vehicle, maintenance tanking to the point where taking an attraction down to get it in optimal working order (an unsung, yet crucial factor in customer satisfaction; you'd be surprised at how a given attraction's reputation can be affected by how it's maintained) is instead a rare commodity, the majority of new attractions being high-demand technology showcases (and in quite a few cases, added to the wrong parks just for the sake of inducing more demand where it isn't really necessary), etc. etc. etc.

whenever Foxx Nolte writes about the parks, she's almost always dead-on, and that goes double for her piece on the domino effect that led up to where we are now

I don't know. I go to Disney frequently. One thing Disney gets right imo is the guest experience!
When was the last time you've been?
I think you are referring to a different “guest experience” - and yes Disney still does a great job with that compared to most places.

But Disney used to add to the guest experience with free additions like Fastpass, Magical Express, etc. - when is the last time they added something for free? The app? *edit* - skyliner counts

what if. and I know it's big IF. but it'd be cool as an homage to TSI if they built hidden caves into the new landscape. add some level of discoverability into the land that allows for some play features apart from rides

It's so interesting that so many people care so much about the riverboat and Tom sawyer island, yet they both are walk ons every time I go.
I wonder if Disney had put some money and thought into plussing both these attractions if that would still be the case? My son loved exploring Tom Sawyer Island when he was a kid. It was a great way to run around and blow off steam. However, it is a pain to get to the island and it can take a good bit of time out of your day. Disney should come up with a way to get there quicker. They could make a scavenger hunt over there, similar to what they have at Epcot. They could have a unique dining experience at Aunt Pollys. The steamboat ride seems like a great opportunity to showcase Tiana and the music from the Princess and the Frog. Make it an active character meet and greet. Add more scenes along the river. Decorate it with holiday lights during Halloween and Christmas to make it a holiday cruise with the appropriate music playing. Advertise both of them more, I don't think the average guest really knows what they are. It seems there is more Disney can do to take advantage of these gems than just throwing up their hands and giving up on them.

The Mark Twain and Liberty Belle used to (might still be going on) compete as to who had the higher ridership. The Liberty Belle always won. There are many factors at play, just an interesting tidbit.

I'm planning a trip to DLR in May and I'm learning things I didn't know. That wouldn't be an accurate comparison. In MK, the Liberty Belle is the only way around ROA. In DLP, you have the Mark Twain, the Columbia ship, and even the canoes. So you have two other options in DLP that WDW's MK doesn't have. I'm sure there are guests who choose all three in DLP but the odds are that, if guests choose one of the two other options, they're good for going around ROA and don't need to ride the Mark Twain. There is also the factor of Mark Twain probably closing early to prepare it for Fantasmic which is held at the base of TSI in DLP. Hence, Liberty Belle always having better ridership than Mark Twain, again being the only option in MK's ROA.
