What else can they possibly do? Remove COP or HOP? They already removed Splash Mountain and entire ROA. Not to mention the CBJ update.
Yeah, the "insensitive" choice confuses me too. What else remains in the park that could be considered insensitive?

I mean, I guess Peter Pan's Flight still has the Indians, there are some people who consider Sebastian an offensive stereotype so maaaaaaaaaaaybe the Little Mermaid ride would qualify in Disney's eyes? The Tiki Room?

So has this been delayed? Weren't we expecting construction to start on this before the Monsters Inc Land? There's a lot more work to do here.

I'm not complaining, mind you; I'd much rather this all still be open in July.

Disney had until January 9th to give the South Florida Water Management District more details, so I think we're waiting for it to be approved. I think the earliest we've heard construction could begin is Spring 2025, but nothing set in stone yet

I heard a terrible rumor that someday both the Land and the Sea pavilions in EPCOT will be gone! Probably a fake rumor.

I totally understand Disney wants to change stuff but in many cases, their changes take too long and are not better replacements, examples:

EPCOT Future world - took too long, not a better replacement, and still having problems like ground lighting.
Tiana - It didn't feel like they took too long but its not a better replacement and is still having problems.
Galaxy Edge - TO ME ONLY - I really miss the Osborne lights  and I wished this land was based on the original Star Wars instead of a random planet and this project was cost cut compared to what was promised.
Toy Story Land - its just OK, again cost cut compared what they promised.

Cars land - We don't have any idea what we will end up with here or how long it will take. I DO NOT agree with the destroy and replace going on here, but that's just me. I don't think this ride system will work reliably in WDW. Lets see what happens.

I would agree with all of that... especially Galaxy's edge....

That actually wouldn't surprise me since they both probably have higher than usual operating costs, especially the Seas.
It’s interesting to watch how lesser or regional theme / amusement parks are closing the gap to Disney in terms of innovative ride experiences and theming while Disney is cutting away at that which set themselves so far ahead of the competition (themed lands, unique experiences, etc).

The overall experience that The Living Seas used to offer was what was innovative about it. It's been little more than a glorified aquarium since the turn of the millennium. Layer on the fact that newer aquariums with fresh infrastructure are getting more impressive and certain ocean animals in captivity are controversial (or at least divide opinions) and it would really be little surprise if they eventually changed things up. The Land is probably on more solid footing; I feel worst case within the foreseeable future would just be a complete redo of Living with the Land. They have no reason to ditch Soarin', the theater, or the eateries (though the latter could use a major facelift).

After the giant Epcot overhaul, it's hard to see them bulldozing that entire side anytime soon. Gotta think The Land is safe given Sorin', GG, and the greenhouses in Living With The Land in use. Also, if anyone still cares about classic Epcot (doubtful I know), Living is one of the dwindling attractions they could want represented.

I do think Seas is in deep trouble given Nemo is mostly a walk on and the assumed cost to run the aquarium. It will sting to see it go, if they do not choose to upgrade it, and further erode the original vision of the park - but it may just be a question of Seas vs Imagination on which gets a major change first.

That being said and off-topic - I would argue a park needs some lower demand/wait time attractions to balance the experience. When Muppets goes down, HS is going to trend even further to the all rides are an hour plus wait on many days- which is a bummer. Who knows, maybe Coral Reef profits can subsidize the Seas for a while longer.

Sad but true, unlike Disney's movie business with their runaway budgets, Disney's theme park business is always looking to cut costs and controls costs tightly.

Its backwards when you think about it.

Disney will over spend and lose money on a movie folks wont even remember a month after its out of the theaters.

Disney will destroy and replace long standing attractions families grew up on and have fond memories of and want to return to every time they visit.

They will destroy and replace these wonderful attractions with cost cut IP based, lesser attractions that are not better than the attractions they destroyed and guests are now stuck with these lesser attractions for many decades.

Eeeh, land is probably fine. Soarin sells ILL’s. The restuants do well. Also behind the seeds tour probably the pavilions saving grace.
The seas I wouldn’t be suprised to be gone at some point. The ride is a walk on, it costs alot to maintain, less populated. Also I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney thinks they can get away with it because it isn’t a “beloved” pavilion like imagination or land. I genuinely think that if Disney wanted to, they could unfortunately get away with closing seas.

But that rumor they heard is a retread of an old rumor pre pandemic so grain of salt and all that. Even IF it’s true, and that’s IF, we still probably have a good while with them.

If they got rid of the land pavilion they will have destroyed the BEST pavilion in WDW -
  • A super character table service in the cool rotating restaurant where you can see the living with the land attraction.
  • An excellent food court counter service with a lot of seating and refillable soft drinks ;)
  • THREE attractions!
  • And behind the seeds tour!
Ironically, the only thing this pavilion does not have is a formal gift shop!

The Living Seas would be amazing with a more futuristic update...bringng it back to it's original storyline with a more modern vibe... add a thrill ride that somehow integrates without touching the original tanks and seabase...It was too fantastic a pavilion to have ever gotten that tepid Nemo makeover... They need to make it about sea exploration and make it feel adventurous again... kie the original journey to Seabase Alpha... Bring wonder back into the pavilion....instead of cartoon characters...

This would be great. The sad reality is Disney wants to cut cost and we are going to lose this beautiful aquarium, replaced with a cheap, lesser replacement, maybe they will swap Nemo with Moana, but be assured, there will be an IP.

I am waiting for Mission Space to change to Lightyear or Strange World.
