MK Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

I forget that restaurant even exists. Has it ever been any good? Maybe like 30 years ago?

It's surprising that it's never seen any kind of major overhaul. I'm sure the interior has been renovated, but I'm pretty sure it's been called the Coral Reef Restaurant since the pavilion opened -- how many other Disney restaurants have had the same name that long?
It was closed for a long time and was never a place people wanted to eat when it was open. Never saw a good word about the food from any source

I do like the fact that it's been there since the pavilion opened in 1986 and still feels that way (but understand why it's not as charming for first timers). I last ate there in 2021 and it was ok, not terrible. Bonus points for:

Full House was filmed there - Yes, I requested and received the Danny Tanner table by the tank.

You can watch your food alive while you eat it - the Sanaa of the ocean!

I don't know if they would spend money on this, but I could see them putting more aquatic life in Animal Kingdom (especially the Crush show). They already have the Nemo show there. I started to go to WDW in 2017, so to me, the Nemo Seas Pavilion seems out of place. I'd actually probably spend more time there if it was in Animal Kingdom.

The current version of Seas, yeah. It's just an aquarium with a terrible Nemo ride shoehorned into a space that wasn't intended to host an attraction. The original version, pre-Nemo and fully functioning as Seabase Alpha, was an Imagineering masterpiece and among the best things they've ever built.

All the set dressing of the Hydrolators, Sea Cabs etc may have been technically superfluous from an operations standpoint, but they were vital to the overall show. What made The Living Seas more than just an aquarium was the fantastic, futuristic notion that this was an underwater research center, and the journey you took to get there. That implied sense of scope beyond what you could see made it all the more fascinating and inspirational.

A Finding Nemo aquarium naturally feels geared more towards younger children, and not enough to differentiate it from the newer, larger and more sophisticated exhibits built in the years since 1986.

One comment that's stuck with me over time, forget if it was here or elsewhere, was how your interpretation of this replacement relies on if you're more interested on the "theme" (the overall immersion and connection between lands and their elements) or the "park" (the overall ride experiences and models.)

For me theming is everything for Disney, it's what sets it apart. You don't go to Disney or Universal for the ride systems because they really can't compete to any regional park. You go for the theming surrounding the otherwise mundane boat rides or omnimovers or whatever else that is some of the best in the world, something regional parks often don't have any of. And here it feels some are focusing on a new flashy ride model with the flashy IP replacing an old ride while neglecting overall theme and how these googly-eye cars on a dirt pile match with anything else in its land, or the park as a whole, the way the river and boat did. Let alone how it will age when it's outdated. It's losing sight from what they whole selling niche of the parks have always been and people always realize too late.

Which actually does tie into why the Rivers of America is so important to the spatial design of Liberty Square and Frontierland. It creates a sense of scale that extends beyond just the guest areas. That now has to be replaced by a closer and stronger edge condition that clearly defines the limits of the space.

So, after getting roasted for only touting blue sky projects, Josh doubles down on saying that what was presented at the last D23 is definitely not blue sky, y'all think that because demolition hasn't started, they're going to change their minds on this?

Ok...
Disney is not changing their minds. That would admit they are stupid (even though we all know they are)

I think the demolition hasn't started yet because:
A. The permits have not gone through.
B. SOP for Disney is to Delay, Destroy, Defund when working on theme park projects.

Ok...

I single handedly manifested an Avatar boat ride and Coco ride for DCA and I can do it again. The ROA in its entirety WILL NOT be demolished. At most, the back half. You can take this to the bank.

Nah if cars gets cut then villains land will too
Well....if that money and development went into fixing fleshing out Tomorrowland in the form of a Speedway replacement/complete and total redo plus attractions replacing MILF and Stitch, another new attraction replacing the long gone Galaxy Theater, and reworking Torrowland Terrace into a fantastic immersive thematically appropriate TS restaurant....
Add the Moana attraction to Adventureland without teariout any other attractions... While I would love a Villain's land, I think the cost of the whole core of the park is too high a cost...

There are a lot of things beyond Joshie's control that can change a project...
