Just stay with it and read as much as you can, join camera clubs, expose yourself to as many photo exhibits as you can, take online tutorials, take a photography class, and get out there and take as many pictures as you can. You will develop an "eye" for good composition and a knowledge of equipment and you'll be on your way!
Don't give up. We all learn from each other.
