No camera yet, although I've actually had a chance to play around with a few models and determined that the Nikon D40 is what I prefer. Also, I spoke with an employee at Costco who informed me that if I buy the camera through them, I have 90 days to try it. I found it a little odd that they allow returns after you've used the camera, but I'm not going to question it (maybe the CSR misspoke and it's actually just 90 days for an unused product :shrug
. They have a D40 kit with two lenses (I think you actually told me about this) for $599.
Now my only dilemma is whether I buy there, with the knowledge that I can return it if it turns out to be 'not my thing' (which I really doubt will happen...although there is a concern in the back of my mind that the extra time it takes to adjust the settings may make it more trouble to me than it's actually worth), or if I buy from Amazon. The same package is currently $576 from Amazon, but the second lens (55-200mm) is the VR version, which is recommended, and adds $50 to its value. Plus I wouldn't have to pay tax via amazon, which is another $40.
So basically...90 days to try versus $115 savings. Of course, I could always get the best of both by buying first from Costco to determine whether I want the camera, and if so, return it to Costco and buy it from Amazon, but I think that's somewhat dishonest.
