Rumor New Monorails Coming Soon?

Apparently, “soon” was on the timescale of continental drift.

We just have to frame any mention of “soon” in Disney timelines. Like when they say something is “temporary”.

I’ve maintained for about 20 years that they have zero intention to replace those trains…because they have zero desire to replace the tracks. Im still waiting to be proven wrong.
Even with the poly station rebuild…which is minor in comparison…I see no such desire.

We can only hope. And hope that “temporary” truly is, in his case. Although it’s another case of “be careful what you wish for”. The next CEO could make the last two look like intelligent theme park people. Kind of like how the Bob’s make Eisner seem pretty good by comparison.

Eisner was legitimately good for awhile. Chappie has always been terrible in the company.

Which is why it knocks Iger down a peg. He did one of the things he was allowed to take over to prevent: no strong corporate structure. As bad or 99% worse than Eisner. Eisner had hacks…what Bob left looks like what the hacks “hacked up” and left on the road side.

What’s the lifespan on the beam? They could replace the trains and use the same beam. I’d think they got about 5 more years until they’ll need to have a purchase order in for replacements, 10 before the current trains have reached end of usable life.

That’s a great question…but beams don’t last forever. Those were placed in the harsh Florida climate going on 55 years ago…just saying.

…and the problem is that Disney won’t admit to their investors they have necessary overhead anymore. It’s the changes in Wall Street mentality that they have fallen into the pattern on. So the “we’ll make it back later” on something mostly frivolous like obselete monorails is gonna be a tough sell.

This is NOT Big Mike’s era…the board in those days was packed with Roy loyalists…family men.

Custom manufacturing probably onsite due to transport costs but there is no indication the beams are in peril, maybe the pylons but...

In any case it would be up to TWDC to engineer and install any replacement.

The beams and pylons seem to be in good shape, just need to build new trains. I feel sorry for current management to be saddled with a transport system that is both iconic to the destination and obsolete to the point of inhibiting operations.

I think most of you are forgetting that the intended lifespan of these monorails is 20-25 years and these have been in operation since 1989, 32 years. It's well over their time to be replaced.

Especially it's important to consider the usage of the monorails too, while not running 24/7, they can average about 17 hours a day with many hours running at maximum capacity, which is on the extreme end of usage for monorails.

I wonder if a truly major incident were to occur, like another crash or someone falling because a door fell off if Disney could be sued for not retiring them soon enough.

I wonder how long until the energy inefficiency of them can cause enough of a green story that it forces them to be replaced. I can't imagine something made in the 80's is anywhere near as energy efficient as one would be made today.

That's on my short list. Everyone likes the bubble oens and sure they got a much better engine but there so ugly. I want the z31 300

Of course…I just seem to remember hearing it was a little more complicated than mesh or rebar…
