Just feel the anger in here from the vaccinated when mandates are mentioned.

This will lead to social unrest.

I also think neither masks or distancing are returning. As soon as you do that, the vaccine campaign is over.

There are two types of people that are unvaccinated:
- immune from prior infection
- not-immune

The not-immune make up at least 80% of unvaccinated (according to latest estimates). Those people are hesitant and don't trust the government. As soon as masks/distancing comes back, we're never getting a shot in their arms.

I do agree with this and is the main reason it is very likely we will NOT see the CDC say vaccinated people must wear masks.

At that point the vaccine campaign comes to a complete stop.

I stand by what I said about Disney World. They will most likely go along with local and state rules. Since we most likely will never see any changes here in Florida or Orlando, World will continue with no masks and no social distancing.

I love how we’re using some county health official’s personal agenda as proof of anything.

No that should still be the goal. We have survived for thousands of years with respiratory infections that typically don’t get us sick enough to need the hospital, and will continue to do so for as long as we are a species. If the vaccine prevents people dying or needing the hospital it remains a success.

I didn't say preventing hospitalizations and deaths shouldn't be part of the goals, or that they weren't. My point is that, like the virus, goals change over time.

And this isn't just a respiratory infection...there have been discussions about whether to re-classify it.

Wrong. I refuse to be punished for another year with "restrictions" because I got the vaccine.

Then vaccinated people should be pushing for vaccine passports. This nonsense of throwing up your arms and not doing anything about the rise in cases is ridiculous. The way this has been handled since day 1 you all deserve the consequences.

The good guys always get punished and it frankly disgusts me so many are happily supportive of punishing people like us who did the right thing.

Maybe focus that anger on those in charge for not doing enough for those people too lazy to get vaccinated. The CDC hasn't helped with any of this. By throwing their arms in the air and telling businesses it's up the them now to ensure those not vaccinated wear a mask. This has been screwed up since day 1 and I don't feel sorry for what's going on. I applaud LA county for doing what should have been done from the beginning. Masks stay in place til 70% of eligible people are fully vaccinated. You couldn't even get to 50% and the CDC decided Covid is over.

The United States had 35% more infections than the UK which means 35% more natural immunity. They aren't apples to apples. Regardless, lockdowns are never happening again in the United States.

Our goal isn't to prevent cases. Our goal is to prevent hospitalization and death. 300,000 infections per day is similar to a normal flu season. But we need to get mortality of COVID down to or below flu. We do that with vaccination.

The UK wasn't testing / had no testing capacity during the first initial wave - which was massive.

With the soon to be out of control spread of delta around the world is there any chance we have a mutation that makes it more contagious, so that it becomes the dominant strain, while being significantly less deadly?

If so is this statistically less likley to happen then a mutation that makes things worse?

I mean, I don't disagree at all with this. Our government has been too cowardly to enforce anything since day one. If only we had a guy like Macron, with a backbone. And now, yet again, a year into this, those of us who complied, sacrificed, and did our part are being punished. I have a right to be angry.

I don't think there's any way to predict whether a mutation will be less virulent or more...which is why we should be working to do what we need to to prevent the mutations.

I have been sending some nasty but professional emails and phone calls to some of the leaders in NC who are doing nothing about this fiasco. We were doing so well with vax rates in the spring and now its like a nosedive.

Whatever one thinks of the policy, let’s at least be honest about why it’s happening. LA County isn’t saying that there is a medical need for vaccinated people to wear masks. The motivation is to ensure that the unvaccinated keep their masks on.

The science hasn’t changed; rather, the honour system has failed. Blanket rules are an inevitability when people refuse to do the right thing.

Unfortunately that ship has sailed a long time ago. What needed to happen was a slow conservative approach to reopening til more people were vaccinated.
