I actually agree with what you said here even though we've been on the opposite end of many issues. Fear of "going backward" is absolutely a major detriment right now, and by not wanting to roll back the reopening of many states and counties, we have actually gone backward .
That said, despite the overseas parks that reopened and closed, as we all know, the US is a different mindset. When the company opted to move forward with the July reopening despite the surge in numbers at the time, they essentially made the decision to open the floodgates and resume business. I still think it was and is the right move. Many on here disagree. But the reality of the business side of things is that once the company agreed to reopen Walt Disney World, that toothpaste was not going back in the tube.
As for your last three sentences. I wish those things were true pre-COVID, let alone now.
