What of the idiots who refuse to get vaccinated? We literally have 5 idiots who voted to not to on your poll. What of them?

You can’t force people to get vaccinated. If people are anti-vaxxers there is no changing their minds. We can’t afford people resisting the vaccine because of stupid politics though. As long as we get to 70-80% we are probably good and there’s no way 20-30% oppose the vaccine on scientific reasons. If politics creeps in the the numbers could go too low. That’s why I’m concerned when I see the Warp Speed debate. We can’t turn the vaccine into “masks” and have one side favor it and one side oppose. Too many people blindly follow their political affiliation‘s position.

Steve already made it clear that the political discussion is supposed to be around Coronavirus, not general politics. Discussions on the government response to Covid is fine, talk about the election or other political topics is still not allowed here. There’s a whole politics section for that.

At least one of the people in the vaccine thread said he has no desire to get the vaccine since he already had Covid. If we assume conservatively that the 12M positives is undercounted and there’s more like 25M that helps get to herd immunity. I think many people who had Covid will still get the vaccine anyway but if some portion of the people who don’t get it we’re infected naturally they will in theory add to the total immune.

They are not telling you, it’s a recommendation. It’s like the recommendation of looking both ways before you cross the street. You are not under any order to do it, but it would be safer if you did.
They may have guidelines for only immediate family or limit it to 5-10 people but they know it’s not enforceable.

In New York, you are not permitted to have more then 10 people in your home. Whether it is enforceable or not is irrelevant to the discussion which is about whether the government should be allow to control who you allow into your house.

problem is we dont know how long the vaccine is effective for. Theres talks of possibly needing multiple rounds a year. So people who think they have natural immunity might not have natural immunity.

Actually they technically *can* force you to get the vaccine (The SCOTUS ruled that in the 1910s and upheld it since). It's doubtful they *would* though.

I think Halloween parties are fundamentally different in character from Thanksgiving; local law enforcement is not going to want stories about an 85-year-old granny being fined because her kids told her it was okay to have family over the way she does every year.

If you don't mind my asking, where do you live? I'm in Chicago and enforcement of such an order here would be next to impossible. I can see it going over better in some of the smaller towns or suburbs, though.

I live in Ontario Canada. The places where they have fined people was in Toronto and Vancouver areas. They don't have to do a strict enforcement. You fine a few people and people will listen. They are really going after the ones who have large gatherings and have multiple cara lined down their street.

As far what @GoofGoof was saying the biggest difference is that here for the most part all Provinces and the federal government are on the same page. The message is similar across the country. You don't have one province saying we are open for business while another is locked down.

I don’t have any particularly strong stance on government regulations in that area, but I don’t care for some of the hypocrisy I see.

There’s no question the primary spread of this virus is in indoor settings where people are in close contact with an infected person for a significant amount of time (around 15 minutes). My state has required masks in public since May and there is excellent compliance from what I see and hear. Yet we are having a serious spike, which officials are attributing to people gathering indoors for private functions or family gatherings.

It seems people are fine with the government ordering me to wear a mask in public, but it’s not okay for the government to tell them to limit the number of people in their homes. The latter is a much greater source of the spread than the former.

Clearly, lines have to be drawn where government intrusion is involved, but I don’t think I would mind an order limiting the number of people in private homes where masks will likely not be worn. It would be more effective in stopping the virus than requiring masks in public, although I do support that measure until a vaccine is widely available.

Even if it lasts a year, people who got sick in March or even July will probably need a vaccine in this round. People getting sick now in this second wave can probably wait until next fall.

Initially, probably? It would interesting to see how many shares were issued at the time of his death. One thing we can agree on is, today, The Walt Disney Company number one concern is the shareholder. TWDC cares a lot about it’s image on social media too, but I guess that’s the same thing; their image on social media impacts shareholder value.
