Saying he is misstating the safety of vaccines is an accusation of lying. A pediatrician would know the risks involved and intentionally downplaying them is knowingly making false statements. It’s anti-vaccine bunk that you are unsurprisingly encouraging.

I agree that nobody should be forced to get a Covid vaccine and I haven’t seen anywhere that anyone from the government is suggesting they do that. The only thing I‘m confused about is the comment that the other person is informed on the risks and benefits. How could we possibly know the risks or the benefits if the vaccines haven‘t even been approved? Or maybe a better question is what are the risks? What are the odds of serious reaction and/or death? How do we know the risks are similar to the risks of Covid? It doesn’t seem possible to me that we could know that yet but if there’s some information out there I’d be interested in seeing it.
I know people who are very concerned about mandatory vaccines. I don't see it happening from the government side (they're not competent enough to manage it
), but I can see it being required for travel to certain places or by a person's work. If the latter comes to pass, then it is effectively going to be forced on some individuals. I dunno.
Nobody knows anything about the risks of the proposed vaccines yet because the data has not been publicly released, or even finalized. But given all the scrutiny the FDA (and its European equivalent) are applying to these vaccines, it seems extremely unlikely that the risk of any vaccine will be anything more than several orders of magnitude lower than for the actual disease.
You're right we wouldn't know that at this point. I would assume she is comparing it to the risks and benefits of the flu vaccine. Vaccines aside the benefits of taking any medications should outweigh the risks. All medications do have side effects. Some people have no reservations about popping a pill for every problem and some choose a more natural approach.
Not to go into the medication issue but IMO I believe a lot of that has to do with the fact they can advertise on TV for it. Here I Canada as far as I know it's not allowed.

A significant part seems to be lag. I wish I could find the source/chart somebody posted that shows the deaths by date of death going back months. The DOH publishes the last 30 days by date of death and the highest so far in that time frame for a day is 63 on 9/14.
I don’t know if there’s any official stats out there on children and flu shots, but I had read somewhere recently that overall, children and adults combined, the number of annual deaths from flu shots is in the single digits and they are primarily from Guillain-Barre Syndrome which is more common in people naturally infected with influenza than people who got a flu shot. There are various levels of adverse reactions to the shots from arm pain at the point of injection to headache and flu like symptoms that last a few days and are generally far less severe than the flu itself. Everyone is free to do what they want obviously, but if the risks of a Covid vaccine are similar to a flu shot IMHO the reward far outweighs the risk. It’s not even close.

I think it’s what we’ve signed up for. I wouldn’t expect to see much of a drop going forward, but who knows...maybe we will get lucky
