There is a restaurant near my house that set up a big tented patio earlier this year to accommodate outdoor dining. With temperatures starting to get chilly in the evening, they have put sides on the tent... which seems to defeat the purpose of outdoor dining.

NJ had a problem with this early on so they actually changed this guidance to address it. You need a certain percentage of wall space to be open to the outside to be considered outdoor dining.

As many others have said, simply "opening things up" won't necessarily cause a change in behavior. We must solve for the ongoing challenge of the pandemic, before the economy, and our specific household, can be a contributing member of the economy again.

It's amazing how many politicians do not seem to understand this very simple statement.

There is another aspect to this, not just related strictly to shut downs and restrictions. And that would be income. Both my husband and I have had an income change due to the pandemic. Do we both have jobs? Yes. Is one of us furloughed? Yes. Has the other one of us experienced a reduction in salary while still working? Yes.

I am so very much longing to travel. Am I allowed to travel to Mexico? Yes. Would I like to travel to Mexico? Yes. Can I actually make hotel and flight reservation to do so? No...as there simply aren't funds. Apply that same comparison to dining out, purchasing new clothing, traveling locally...and the answers will still be the same. We simply are not doing it.

Yes, there are people going through financial hardship right now and their behavior won't change. If those of that are not could travel, go to concerts, plan weddings, go to movies, eat indoors, etc it sure would put a lot of people back to work.

As someone who has written in favor of complaining, I think there was a certain dynamic here that led to confusion. It seems the people who believe there are too many restrictions started labeling the people who favor restrictions as "fearful" and accused them of hiding in their basements. We "cowards" then responded that we are not hiding out but doing most of what we used to do, albeit with restrictions. The other group then said if you have restrictions, you are not really living. That led some to over-react a bit, saying "What do you mean, we're not living?! Nothing is locked down, we're doing everything we want to do!"

If you skipped the set-up and came in at the last part, it does look a little like people have lost their minds and are saying they're perfectly fine with the way things are now. Just my take on the matter - I'm sure others will disagree.

It's not just the people with financial hardship. I have the financial means to go to Disney right now, but won't do it until the virus is more under control.

Same boat here. We have been lucky to have had no hardship due to Covid (so far), and could easily be planning a trip, or going somewhere. But we also are waiting until things are under control / over.

And weird enough, most my close friends/family are in the same situation as us.

Do you take it upon yourself to 'interpret' the rules in every aspect of your life, or just the ones related to a worldwide pandemic?

Do you ever exceed the posted speed limit? I do. Not egregiously, but 5-10 mph over depending on the type of road and traffic/weather conditions. However, I don't in residential neighborhoods. I also don't run red lights which is extremely dangerous. So I guess you could say that I do interpret and many others do as well.

I don't know the laws of the other States but, in Florida, isolation is only legal if someone has an infectious disease and quarantine is only legal if it is "reasonable" to assume that someone has been exposed. It is not reasonable to assume exposure when the actual percentage of infected and contagious people is so low.

I get where you're coming from, but it's quite hard to know or differentiate which person went where in Florida, was the area characterized by high or low mask usage, etc. so a blanket quarantine to me makes sense. I would say in a more balanced scenario, people who visit the miami-dade area should quarantine, but not all of visitors to the rest of Florida; but practically that would be a nightmare to enforce.

IF Gilead has the doses manufactured and IF this is expandable to the general population, this may be the therapeutic breakthrough we've been hoping for. NIH backed trial showing early Remdesivir treatment greatly improved course of disease for those in moderate cases requiring oxygen therapy.
I realize it's an infusion and would probably eat up a fair number of hospital beds from those that would have otherwise been discharged (we don't all have an infusion suite in the west wing of our house), but if case mortality drops significantly between now and a vaccine rollout, MAYBE we can move the goalposts just a little bit.
