That's true. Expensing food, drink and leisure activities to entertain clients is a big hurt to NYC, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Most of the bigger hotels, dining near the Convention Center on International Drive in Orlando surely must be hurting too.

Conventions are done for the foreseeable future. It’s a good contest to see if cruises or conventions come back sooner. Tough call there. Vegas and Orlando will take huge hits but even smaller convention markets like Chicago, Houston and San Fran are going to suffer a lot. I’ve spent many a night in downtown Houston where the vast majority of the people in a steakhouse were people I knew or recognized from a handful of companies in the same industry.

Broadway is closed, at least through the end of the year. Other tourist attractions are either closed or have strict capacity limits and distancing/mask rules. Public transit is a problem, not unlike WDW.

Are any tourist attractions open in NYC? I didn't know that.

Disney is providing cast members who have close continued contact with guests both face masks and face shields for safety of both.

NYC is going to suffer even more from the lack of business travel. So many hotels and restaurants in Manhattan lives off of business travelers who expense their travel. International and domestic. Tourism will hurt too.

I feel like boarding groups should have been the way to go. But since they are keeping it low attendance they could have modified them to like 10 parties in a 10 minute time block for example. So when rides reopen after it rains, this doesn't happen.

About those positivity rates....

COVID test positivity is not a meaningful statistic because not all negatives are reported - Alachua Chronicle

The percentage of positive COVID tests has increased dramatically in Alachua County and in Florida, and we now have evidence that this percentage is misleading at best.

We know that not all of the local negatives are being reported because UF reports the results of its employee testing here; we log that number on a spreadsheet when it changes, and the number of total tests increased by 3,527 from July 4 to today (with only one positive test). Over that same period, the state reported an increase of 1,423 tests (with 195 positive tests).

That means that the official positivity rate for those three days was 13.7%, but when you add the unreported negatives from UF, it becomes 3.9% (and that’s only adding the negatives we know about; there are almost certainly others). That paints a very different picture of community spread.

That means if your math is right 1 in every 10 people tested in Florida today was a UF facility. I sincerely hope your math is wrong, because if it’s right Florida is not doing nearly enough testing.

Central Park, beaches, some other outdoor attractions. Not much indoors and no indoor dining yet. In the next phase which can happen in 2 weeks if things stay on track things like zoos, botanical gardens, museums and other attractions as well as indoor dining with capacity limits. Public transit is already open with restrictions. No sign of Broadway opening.

The idea that testing of just Florida staff (it’s the middle of the summer - by the way) would bring a statistical average down 10 points in a state of 20,000,000...

According to Wikipedia there are 325 hospitals in the state of FL so 56 is about 17% of hospitals. Not time to panic yet but a substantial number of regular hospitals. There will likely be levers pulled soon to setup overflow hospitals and increase capacity. Worth keeping an eye on.

Lost year...no doubt...

But New York has been disrupted before...lots of ups and doesn’t for a variety of reasons.

The disruption of international business would be just as detrimental as Broadway...it would stand to reason.

Broadway is a big tourist driver but it’s overall impact is consistently overstated.
