I don’t think the rumor is the worst possible thing. The only thing that really bothers me is this trumpet thing. I really don’t want that, it could be way better in person but it doesn’t sound that...inspiring. The moments though that were in the rumor sounded great with the lift hill, ray and co, dig a little deeper it’s just the trumpet aspect is a little weird, again it may be just a B storyline and it isn’t that important. Guess we will have to find out.

EDIT: As for the AA thing I still don’t know if I buy the removal claim.

Anyone buy the rumor that they want to intentionally sell out of Splash merch to limit exposure to Song of the South references?

I don’t buy that rumor at all. I hope it isn’t the case since I wouldn’t mind getting more Splash merch if I end up going back down before it closes.

EDIT: It also doesn’t make much business sense since revenues on these merch lines are likely high.

I'm cynical but have heard social media pushing the idea. Hope it is true because that would show they are committed to the overlay. Which in this case is the right choice for many reasons. Progress for the better.

I think people should be allowed to say their goodbyes to the attraction as well as grab some merch. It’s bad business otherwise and doesn’t look good.

This is why I removed my comment. On the other hand, I can see your point regarding being committed to the overlay.

...I would like to say goodbye to the Bre’r Gang though hope it sticks around for a while along with the merch.

I really hope it’s “for the better” and I have confidence it will be good but I’m going to miss Splash, and all the iconic music and characters.

EDIT: That Jim Hill rumor said it would stick around for a while

From listening in on the live stream I was watching, the shelves were fairly empty with many people buying up the merch (plush toys particularly). There was also a sizable wait to even get into the store. The CM said they are unsure when or if they will restock the Splash related merch so there might be some leges on that rumor. I'm sure they will want to start pushing the Princess and Frog stuff.

Yea I saw that that is where this came from. Probably have been watching the same stream as each other.

People understandably have trouble letting go of cherished memories.

I am more confident in this prediction than probably any I have made on these boards. I really think this is the project that brings back some of the fundamentals of park design. Joe Rhode kept that flame burning and he stated enthusiastic support. Bringing in Tony Baxter reinforces that theory. I'm more hopeful by the day in the future of the MK. Juries still out on Epcot.

I think their is a decent chance this is done right. Disney knows the storm that will be coming for them if this isn’t done right. The IP is a decent fit, makes sense. Following up one of the best Disney attractions ever is going to be a very tough act though.

I’m excited to see what will result from it but of course like stated I will miss Splash.

The PATF music is very good as well I can see that fitting in nicely. Following up such classics though will always be a tough transition though. I hope people keep an open mind as I am.

Just a heads up - there's now an actual push at high levels to pause changing Splash in Florida indefinitely (without officially canceling). Part of this is internal polls they've seen after the announcement, but a larger part is they're increasingly strapped for cash. I'll be able to hopefully discuss why they're more financially harmed right now than a week ago, but that will be its own thread later this week (if I can).

The DL version will absolutely be changing though. Japan will not change as their political and cultural atmosphere is decidedly different than California in the present.

That is nuts! I personally was looking forward to the ride. If Disney doesn't move forward the backlash will be pretty big from BLM and the media.

That would be incredible, it just seemed like they didn't really take a deep breath and fully understand what they were doing. Very knee jerk.

I remember watching it as a kid. Still somewhere on my Disney VHS shelf...

I’m a hardcore Disney fan, so I saw it (as an adult!) at the cinema when it first came out, have it on Blu-ray as part of the Disney Classics Complete Collection, and rewatched it recently on Disney+. Despite some charming moments, it just doesn’t cohere very well.

They should've put in some more thought before greenlighting such a change. Why would they poll after the ordeal and not before?

I guess I did say that if one version remains, I'd consider it a win.. even if it's just for the immediate future.

This is something that makes sense if times were normal but they aren't. Cash is a little tight at the moment. In the short term its non-essential.
