I think they may be looking at it in a less extreme manner lol. It’s okay to try to do a little bit of good.Disney is trying to avoid the backlash of being an open purveyor of white supremacy.

It’s always been my favorite ride...never actually seen the movie, and I wasn’t aware of the racist connections. I am not going to fight the idea that it makes people upset, but I do not agree with creating a princess and the frog themed ride...it’s pandering and reaching. I do think it would be better to represent a more popular film in the parks like Moana, which is a minority princess and the movie, like splash mountain has a specific theme connection...what was it again? Oh yeah, WATER!I mean, maybe it shouldn’t be unfathomable, but the idea of going to WDW and not hearing Zip a Dee Doo Dah is kind of crazy to me. I really can’t imagine it.
The Jackson Five did a cover, for pity's sake (though my favorite version is done by The Rationals).
They're actually looking at it in the most extreme manner possible for the sake of protecting their current business, their history and their legacy. Accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative, latch on to the affirmative and don't mess with Mister In-Between!I think they may be looking at it in a less extreme manner lol. Come on.. Was there ever any backlash to any of these? If so, when, and from whom? The song, "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" is derived from a racist song that was performed in blackface minstrel shows. There are many other problems with the show as well. However, TWDC has decided to re-theme Splash Mountain to eliminate these racist tropes.
The re-theming isn’t going to have any impact on their business. No one cares except a few people on these boards. Everyone else will be clamoring for FastPasses for the new Princess and the Frog ride. I think they really do believe it’s the right thing to do. And it’s going to cost them plenty to re-do itThey're actually looking at it in the most extreme manner possible for the sake of protecting their current business, their history and their legacy. So.. after talking and verifying stuff with quite a few people... fear is being unnecessarily instilled in you guys about stuff happening to other attractions. Sure, maybe Jungle Cruise loses its headhunters and Peter Pan loses is Native Americans. Maybe even CBJ gets a small overhaul and removes “Mr. McGrowl” (which is the main racist element of CBJ if I recall). BUT, please don’t give much attention to stuff like CoP being demo-ed for being “too-white,” which reeks of being a honey pot.
Splash’s conversion is the biggest change to come out of this because (as I said before) the entire attraction has ties to racism that couldn’t be removed without changing the entire ride. Sure, you might see a scene or two change at some other classic attractionsc but for the most part, don’t be riled up by exaggerations.
It’s time to get rid of Dumbo too, it has widely known racist depictions of African Americans. And the Mad Tea Party is gone as well...Lewis Carroll or Charles Dodgson, the writer of Alice in Wonderland, Was suspected to be a child molester given his love of child ography. He also originally named the story Alice Underground, a reference to her death. The three caballeros is represented at Epcot, it’s a stereotypical depiction of Mexican culture that can be seen as offensive, time for that to go. There is Captain Jack Sparrow represented by a Johnny Depp animatronic, I mean I think that’s an issue. The thing is if you dig deep enough you can find outdated motifs that depict racism, sexism, and other terrible things. In some cases these things must go, you don’t see statues of Hitler around Germany. But we also must take some things into consideration, for example, although Dumbo has racist scenes in the movie, Dumbo himself is a lovable character that people only associate that with the ride. I do agree that the idea of zip song and it’s origins are horrible and should be torn down like a rebel flag. But I must say the rabbit and the bear and fox seem to have their own separate story here. I am not saying that we shouldn’t take away this characters even due to association. But I think we need to take everything on a case to case basis.I mean, maybe it shouldn’t be unfathomable, but the idea of going to WDW and not hearing Zip a Dee Doo Dah is kind of crazy to me. I really can’t imagine it.
And yet Disney felt the need to quickly publicize Baxter’s consulting role and committed to keeping the facilities before actually doing a thorough assessment of their condition to see if they’re worth the headache.I think Disney is doing exactly what it wants to as a company and may be using the current climate as a springboard. The majority here is not anywhere close to the majority of Disney’s customer base, which probably could not (couldn’t) care less about the theming of this ride. It’s a no lose situation for Disney.
And who, in your opinion, is the "average Disney World guest?"This post indicates to me that you should get off of twitter and talk to the average Walt Disney World guest more often.
Are you aware of issues with Splash Mountain facilities? And yet Disney felt the need to quickly publicize Baxter’s consulting role and committed to keeping the facilities before actually doing a thorough assessment of their condition to see if they’re worth the headache.

Whatever your favorite attraction is, I hope something happens to it.This thread is a good example of how embedded white supremacy is in our society. Disney announces they're going to re-theme the attraction, yet in the face of this evidence, many people still refuse to think that any racism exists in Splash Mountain. Even after numerous clear examples have been shown. This is a fundamental problem.
They’re 30 year old buildings filled with water. They most certainly have mold, rust and rot in them. There has also been 30 years of building code changes that will have to be implemented. Are you aware of issues with Splash Mountain facilities?
Heck the song was used as the main theme for "Flights Of Fantasy" in 1983 in honor of New Fantasyland
The neon finale for the Main Street Electrical Parade used the song alongside other Disney songs..
Even The Rock-Afire Explosion sang the song.
Is @Phil12 saying that now that SM is getting re-themed, means that Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah won't be played at the Disney Parks anymore?

Just thought this deserves to be seen on this thread:
