I may record "zip a dee doo dah" on my phone and just play it when I'm on the ride.

Did you know this song was inspired by the old song “Zip ?”

Here’s some lyrics:

(3x) O ole Zip he is a larned skoler, Sings posum up a gum tree an conny in a holler.
(3x) Posum up a gum tree, coonny on a stump, Den over dubble trubble, Zip will jump.

(Chorus)
O Zip a duden duden duden zip a duden day. O Zip a duden duden duden duden duden day. O Zip a duden duden duden zip a duden day. Zip a duden duden duden zip a duden day.

O ist old Suky blue skin, she is in lub wid me I went the udder arter noon to take a dish ob tea; What do you tink now, Suky hab for supper, Why chicken foot an posum heel, widout any butter.

Chorus:

Did you eber see the wild goose, sailing on de ocean, O de wild goose motion is a berry pretty notion; Ebry time de wild goose, beckens to de swaller, You hear him google google google google gollar.

Chorus:

I went down to Sandy Hollar t other arternoon And the first man I chanced to meet war ole Zip ; Ole Zip he is a natty scholar, For he plays upon de Banjo “Cooney in de hollar”.

Chorus:

My old Missus she’s mad wid me, Kase I would’nt go wid her into Tennessee Massa build him barn and put in de fodder Twas dis ting and dat ting one ting or odder.

Chorus:

I pose you heard ob de battle New Orleans, Whar ole Gineral Jackson gib de British beans; Dare de Yankee boys do de job so slick, creek. For dey cotch old Packenham an rowed him up de first.

Chorus:

I hab many tings to tork about, but dont know wich come So here de toast to old Zip before he gin to rust; May he hab de pretty girls, like de King ob ole, To sing dis song so many times, ’fore he turn to mole.

Chorus:

According to whom?

According to nobody. It’s just very obvious that in getting rid of Splash Mountain they won’t leave behind anything from Song of the South.

I mean, maybe it shouldn’t be unfathomable, but the idea of going to WDW and not hearing Zip a Dee Doo Dah is kind of crazy to me. I really can’t imagine it.

Me neither, but that’s because it’s built up over years of going. Dig a Little Deeper is a pretty catchy song too.

Me neither, but that’s because it’s built up over years of experience. Dig a Little Deeper is a pretty catchy song too.

Not catchy enough to win an Academy Award. Zip is iconic. Dig a Little Deeper does not compare.

It’s a good thing millions of people visit the parks each year and not just the academy. I don’t totally disagree with your opinion here, but it’s partially influenced by years of hearing the former, and with time things may be different.

Theres some truth to that, but the song isn’t strictly “Splash Mountain” or “Song of the South.” It’s Disney, you know? It’s become more than “that one song Uncle Remus sang,” if that makes sense. And while that’s partially due to nostalgia, it’s also because the song appeared on Sing Along VHS tapes, and on the Greatest Hits album, and on Disney Channel, etc.

The Jackson Five did a cover, for pity's sake (though my favorite version is done by The Rationals).

Did you know this song was inspired by the old song “Zip ****?”

Here’s some lyrics:

(3x) O ole Zip **** he is a larned skoler, Sings posum up a gum tree an conny in a holler.
(3x) Posum up a gum tree, coonny on a stump, Den over dubble trubble, Zip **** will jump.

(Chorus)
O Zip a duden duden duden zip a duden day. O Zip a duden duden duden duden duden day. O Zip a duden duden duden zip a duden day. Zip a duden duden duden zip a duden day.

Chorus:
Sorry but I'm not buying that one. Zip **** was sung to the melody of Turkey in the Straw which sounds nothing like Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah . Aside from the word Zip, that's about the only real similarity I see in them. I also don't think the Star Spangled Banner sounds like Santa Claus is Coming to Town simply because they both start with "Oh".

I know it exists, all forms of hatred and discrimination exists. Changing a ride do to all this is insanity. The elements that may be racist in the movie are nowhere to be found on the ride. Its Bear Rabbits story. None of the live action characters are featured in that ride at all.
The song, "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" is derived from a racist song that was performed in blackface minstrel shows. There are many other problems with the show as well. However, TWDC has decided to re-theme Splash Mountain to eliminate these racist tropes.

I think Disney is doing exactly what it wants to as a company and may be using the current climate as a springboard. The majority here is not anywhere close to the majority of Disney’s customer base, which probably could not (couldn’t) care less about the theming of this ride. It’s a no lose situation for Disney.

Disney is trying to avoid the backlash of being an open purveyor of white supremacy.

It’s always been my favorite ride...never actually seen the movie, and I wasn’t aware of the racist connections. I am not going to fight the idea that it makes people upset, but I do not agree with creating a princess and the frog themed ride...it’s pandering and reaching. I do think it would be better to represent a more popular film in the parks like Moana, which is a minority princess and the movie, like splash mountain has a specific theme connection...what was it again? Oh yeah, WATER!

I think they may be looking at it in a less extreme manner lol. It’s okay to try to do a little bit of good.
They're actually looking at it in the most extreme manner possible for the sake of protecting their current business, their history and their legacy. Accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative, latch on to the affirmative and don't mess with Mister In-Between!

The re-theming isn’t going to have any impact on their business. No one cares except a few people on these boards. Everyone else will be clamoring for FastPasses for the new Princess and the Frog ride. I think they really do believe it’s the right thing to do. And it’s going to cost them plenty to re-do it
