Someone please explain this to me— PLEASE

Yesterday- “We’re not testing for coronavirus because the chances are too slim.”

Tonight-

Schools closed for a minimum of 3 weeks.
Sports all cancelled from youth up until at least April 15.
Gatherings cancelled.

All of this happened today late afternoon. My son’s school sent the email at 5:07pm

How did it flip this quickly???

Where can we find legit information to know wth is really going on??????

Work just lifted their... "only work at home 2 days a week" restriction, and are letting people work at home all week right now. I'm torn about what to do. I don't like working from home, too many distractions, and working on a tiny laptop is not proficient for me.
One of my friends is an accountant at a government military facility. He said he was able to get two large monitors for his home so he can work from home. He thinks they will be told to stay home for the next few weeks.

As of today, here in Texas...
There are 23 confirmed cases in the entire state, in 7 different counties out of 254 counties. No confirmed cases in Williamson or Travis county, where we all live and work. No changes in work or school situations, so far. Traffic is still a mess, and we have plenty of work...for now.
As all know by now, SXSW was cancelled, and the Houston Rodeo has also been cancelled. So far, the Austin Rodeo (Travis County) is still on, as well as other lesser festivals/gatherings.

@donaldtoo , will your (extended family) Easter get-together be held at your house this time, due to your parents' house being presently under construction?

Thanks for asking, Minnie...!!! :)
As far as I know, we’ll probably gather at mom and pops temporary digs, but, that could be subject to change.
Either way, as always, it’ll be great to all just be together to celebrate...!!! :)

These past 24hpirs have been crazy.. but I’d say specifically from 2pm on.

Ive been on and off the phone and group chats and emails for hours. We will be in meetings all day tomorrow trying to figure out what to do. Working from home is not an option for most of our employees.

In the middle of a conference call I just said -

“Guys, I think we also need to discuss child care, and how we’re going to navigate this.”

“What are you talking about?”

“There’s going to be a lot of people who don’t have child care, and may need to bring their kids to works some days. We need to implement a plan. I was thinking of sending an email and asking who if facing this situation, and then try to come up with ways where on certain days people can bring kids. Rotate.”

Man 1 “What?”
Man 2 “We’re not a day care facility.”
Man 3 “No. We’ll allow them to take off from work if they need to stay home with their kids.”

“We shouldn’t do that. It’s going to be the women who suffer most of all. We have to deal with this somehow. I’ll think of something tonight and bring it in the morning.”

Guy3 “(My name) Stop. Please. People have to deal with that on their own. I’m sure they have someone.”

Guy1 “We don’t have time for this.”

Guy2. (Silence)

I’m not letting this go. I am not going to let women feel the brunt of this madness. I’m not. I’m sick to my stomach right now just thinking about it.

"man 1 and man 2"

Well, that's your company.

I sat in a preliminary meeting today where we (2 men) decided to allow kids into the workplace and a relaxation of the cell phone policy.

I sat in a later meeting for another company (4 men, 3 women) decided the same.

Now, here's the issue if you DO allow the children to bring kids to your workplace. It isn't about "we aren't a day care center", it's about liability. If one of those children are injured whilst at your place of business, even though their parents brought them there, they can (and likely will) sue you. And, they will (likely) win.

This isn't about gender politics. In fact, not much is. But, glad to see you are still beating the drum.
