This one feels more special though. It's not just a new year, it's a new decade!
When I was in elementary school, I think my friends and I thought we'd be no longer living by the year 2020. That's when cars would fly and life would be like you see on the old cartoon series The Jetsons.
Funny that (Lord willing) at age 57 I still have many years to go.
Yet it'll be the year 2020.....wow!

For my generation the big freakout was Y2K. All the computers and clocks and society as we know it was supposed to fail.

Random optional POLL: On New Years Eve, if you are home with whatever family members you live with.....what NYE Broadcast/Network do watch on tv as you await the ball dropping?
Say between 11pm and midnight?
or..........
Do you watch a movie and then switch over at the last minute?
or...........
Do you not care about being awake at midnight and you are in bed with the lights off by then?
Share your annual preference if you wish :)

If I can get away with it.. I usually still watch Richard Clark's rockin NYE, but DH doesn' t like it... so usually it's just a normal night.. we watch whatever, and then go to bed. I mean... I was up at 425am today... I don't think I can make it until midnight tonight!

eta: had to fix Dick to Richard LOL

Anyone got a spare £8k they can lend me ?

Sorry, the last Sterling I had was a teapot and I gave that to my daughter. And I know I don't have that many Dollars to spare. I have some loose change if that helps.

I have a jar of loose change. It just sits in my cupboard. I have been playing with the idea of using loose change to buy scratch off tickets to the lottery. Because it's just sitting there doing nothing anyway.

But I also know that the average return on lottery scratchers is 43 cents to the dollar. So I'd likely be better off turning it in to my bank.

Loose change is the worst.

My bank has a change counter that deposits the total into my checking account automatically. I save it until the jar is full, which is close now, and then cash/process them all. It takes a long time now since I hardly ever use cash.

Normally we flip to the channel and watch the ball drop, and then Dad flips to the local news.

However, this year I'm thinking of sleeping through it...my grandma is flying back from SC, which means I have to get her at 4:45, which means I have to leave work at 3:30, which meant I had to be in at 7, which meant I had to get up at 6, which is wayyyy too early for me.

We are a relaxed office as well... jeans... tennies... A couple reasons why I don't like working at home... ooo SHINY... my husband is home, and bugs me all day when I am, and... this one is hard to explain...it makes my anxiety level go up. My boss isn't a fan of work at home, and I feel like she constantly monitors us all day to see how much our skype shows "away" (she probably doesn't really, but anxiety makes no sense, and tells you bad information)
My boss is the opposite. He believes we should take every opportunity to work from home. There was one day I came in sick. He told me flat out to work from home the next day. The policy is normally that you have to be here six months before working from home...I was here three months when he started letting me. Sooo nice.

I do get the people bothering you. I was working on a snow day at my old job, and my dad came in and wanted me to make him a hot dog...the response was, "I'm working, make your own."

We're staying in, eating nachos and will do some type of movie marathon when the boys are done with their chores. Not sure what we'll be watching at midnight I believe D+ or Disney will stream something. Haven't thought that far ahead

I like loose change, because I dump it in a jar. When the jar gets full, it's usually around $35.00. I take it to the machine in the bank, and then take the money to the grocery store, and stock up on some things. :)
