Youngest has seen all the Potter movies. She is reading the third book now. She is actually excited about reading them since she has seen all the films. I would say that T can watch without worry the first 3. Of course you have dementors in the third one, so I guess they can be kind of scary, but it is my family's favorite.
I’ve never seen them and really do want to watch the movies to see if I feel they’re appropriate.. I just don’t know when I’d ever have the time when he’s not around. Maybe I’ll camp my ironing board in front the tv after he goes to bed one night.

My concern is I broke one of my rules and allowed T to watch the Black Panther. We didn’t see it at the theater even though he begged repeatedly. Almost daily I would hear
“You’re so mean! I’m the ONLY kid in my grade who didn’t get to go see it!!”

So, a few weeks after it came out on video.. and after advice on FB..with moms from his class all saying it was fine... I decided to rent it. We watched together and I immediately regretted it. I did not feel like it was appropriate, but I let the movie play til the end. Needless to say, I did not cave to his request to buy the dvd.
From now on I’ll watch the movie first.

All of this said, my kid is going to be 10 years old in 6 months (I can’t even believe I’m saying that, don’t know how it happened so quickly), at some point he’s going to hear much worse than the language and scenes in Marvel movies., and maybe he’s hearing it now from boys with older siblings, who knows... I’m just trying to hold off as long as I can, but I know it’s coming soon.

You can probably start him off with Spiderman before long. The Sam Raimi ones first. The Marvel ones are good too, but they have a bit of language. Into the Spider-verse is also really good. That one is animated. Common Sense Media recommends 9+ for that one.

I was trying to remember how old B was when he started watching super hero movies. Then I remembered it was when I started watching them, which was when I was a college freshman, other than the Incredibles. It's the younger sibling curse. They don't watch their own stuff; they watch whatever their older sibling watches. Hence why he's very familiar with High School Musical. 😂

thank you!

I have never seen High School Musical. Zac Efron is in that, right? I loved him in The Greatest Showman.

No bad language in the Potter films. It can have scary scenes, especially as the "years" go on. I haven't seen the Black Panther, so I cannot compare it to a Potter film. Youngest doesn't like Number 2 because she doesn't like the way Harry gets treated by the other kids when they think he is the Heir of Slytherin.

I wait for the DVD release of movies. Whatever I want to see (and there aren't many), Target usually has the (DVD) on sale. With the price of movies in theaters now in my area, they're about the same (sale) price as a DVD from Target.

Haven't been in a movie theater in years, as I got tired of people in audience turning on their phones during the movie and being distracted by the bright screens in seats in front of me -- let alone, the people that actually take calls during a movie?! :banghead: Nope, would rather watch at home with hubs and the dog. ;) Only thing I miss is the concession stand! :p
Mornings are the best time to go to miss crowds. We try around 11 am. Concessions are really high. Usually small popcorn and drink to share costs us $11!

Glad that works for you, and I assume there might be a matinee price as well? Guess they don't discount the concession prices though! ;)

Yah, I'll pretty much stick to a home DVD viewing, and grab some snacks from the kitchen. Dog can watch, too, unless he farts -- when that happens, we kick him out! :D

Have you ever used commonsensemedia.org? It gives ratings based on different qualities of a movie/TV show/book and then recommends an age for the movie. It also has parent reviews on there. It's a good resource for concerned parents. I had a friend growing up who was several years younger than me. My mom had a rule that before we watched anything, I had to check the age on that website and usually run it past her if she had seen it. My parents never were overly concerned about what I watched, but they knew some kids were too immature for some movies. Hence why I was allowed to watch Back to the Future at age 8 and Who Framed Roger Rabbit at age 7...

Yes, since T was 3 and just started started watching shows.

it’s a great resource, was a especially great when he was younger, and even for books now.. but my thoughts on Black Panther were different than both CSM and my personal friends’ recommendations.
And for example Star Wars is usually recommended for a higher age than when I allowed T to start watching them.. (age 5)

My dogs would have to be kicked out of the house for the amount they fart. :hungover:

Trying to recall the last time I stayed in a WDW-owned hotel. It's at least 6 or more years at this point. Anyway, I'm bringing this up because yesterday in the mail, I got a 30% off pin code thingie, for people who hadn't stayed in their hotels for some time. First time I ever got anything like that. 🤔 (And no, no trip planned.)
I know my younger brother got an email from Disney earlier today. They are offering $150.00 a night at Coronado Springs per person and per night anytime from a certain day in November to a Certain day in December. They are offering a standard room at Yacht and Beach Club at $150.00. That tells me Disney is Hurting in November and December at WDW for them to offer my younger brother that.

That is an incredible price. They won’t lower ticket prices though. I think once they go up they cannot come down. Maybe they will start offering buy a few days and get some free down the road.

Standard for $150 at Y&B??!!! :jawdrop: I don't think, I've ever heard it being that low. They must be getting desperate.

I know Y& b being lower than that before, but that was in 2001. Disney sent out a deal through the mail in 2001 with it costing under $100.00 per person at the time and my parents had to check with the travel agent at the time to make sure that was not fake. That trip happened in August of 2001.

I only stayed to Y & B twice in my lifetime with the first being the WDW trip my mom won. Y & B stay was free due to the nature of the trip my mom won at the time.

What products did you get @ajrwdwgirl ? I love Basin stuff my favorite but to fill in Lush is pretty dang good too. I saw Basinhad lot of bath bombs. :geek:

I got a three big bath bombs: vanilla, a jasmine one, and electric lemonade. Then three small bath bombs all in Florida sunshine scent. I also got a pumpkin spice latte soap and a almond soap. I thought about getting the sugar scrub but decided not to. I might be headed back this weekend so I might change my mind; I'm going shopping with my sister and she likes Basin stuff too.

I've never tried Lush stuff. In Disneyland there was a store called Rinse, it is based in Georgia, so I bought a couple of their shower bombs and tub truffles. I love the tub truffles, basically it is a bath bomb but encased in cocoa butter so it takes a lot longer to dissolve. I like them better than bath bombs and I see that they have a store (or at least a kiosk) at Disney Springs too.

You two are so much fun. And it amazes me, just how large the Mall of America must be, to have it's own hotel?! :D

I love seeing all the fall decorations and the colorful outdoor foliage pictures as well. Animal photos were also interesting. They're always so photogenic.

P.S.: I've never had a cheese curd (must be a regional thing) -- but, those bags of them look rather tasty! :hungry:

Thanks! The Mall actually has two hotels connected on to it. I'm glad you liked the pictures.

If you are ever in the area I'll treat you to some curds, they are super tasty!

I love when you post pictures from that arboretum. The pumpkin tree is so cool! That Amaranthus plant is edible.

I'm glad you like the Arborteum pictures. We renewed our membership so there will be more pictures. We are hoping to go for the light and poinsettias at Christmas.

I've noticed a lot of late rose bloomers walking around our neighborhood.... I wonder why they are so late this year?

Because of the light in the cube, I can't see what animal/shape it is? I love this silly hot wax mold things... the smell is definitely a childhood memory!

I think the roses are late blooming because the weather has been (in general) warmer a little later and because the growing season started later. The mold-a-rama was of a gorilla. I love the smell of those things, I agree great childhood memory.

They do an amazing job with their fall decor. Love the scare crows, but I especially love the YouBetcha Willow Structure. It would be so fun to walk in it. Guessing you are not allowed to do that. Was that made from willow branches?

Actually the Willow Structure is made to go into, there are little rooms and is kind of maze-like inside. They just put lights on it too for winter. I think it was all made from Willow branches. It was fun to go inside.

The baby giraffe is sooooo cute. Do you remember about how tall it was?

I'm sorry I don't remember how tall the baby giraffe was, Brad thinks it was like 6-7 foot tall. There was a naming contest though the choices were: Elliot, Fonzie, and Sota (for Minnesota). Brad voted for Fonzie and I voted for Sota.

Thank you for taking that picture!

No problem, I'm glad I remembered this time!

I would have voted for Fonzie. :hilarious:

Well, I had quite the night tonight. I left school and I was driving to my dr appointment for a check up. As I got closer I crossed some railroad tracks, that's when I hear a crack/pop. Oh no! I was about 8 miles from the dr and 8 miles from home. I pulled over as soon as I found a safe spot and yep, my tire blew! Ugh. I called AAA and scheduled a tow then called hubby. He left work (had kids at the afterschool program) and came to drive me back from where my car was going to be towed in case they couldn't fit me in tonight. The two was to arrive at 5pm, I called at 4pm. While we were waiting a few minutes after hubs came a very nice guy came stopped to help and he said he could put my spare on. Great! He started working and hubs told me to cancel the tow truck.

Well, the tire wouldn't come off the car. The guy got extra tools from his truck. It wouldn't budge. He and Brad worked for about 30 minutes in that time I decided to call for a tow again as it wasn't looking promising for the spare to be put on. Anyway, we thanked the guy for trying to help and now the tow was scheduled to arrive at 6pm. Ugh. Hubs was getting antsy to get back to church, Wednesday is busy with afterschool program, confirmation and worship. Luckily some church members drove by and drove him back to church so I could have his car after the tow. Then as I was waiting for the tow a teacher friend of mine I had also called to drive Brad to church. stopped and waited with me so I didn't have to wait alone on the side of the road. So tomorrow, hubs is going to deal with my car and tires. Such a hassle and when I called the dr to tell them I couldn't make it today they were sympathetic about my tire but couldn't reschedule me until November 20th, unless I wanted to take time off of work.

Oh well, at least I'm safe and overall my car is fine too. But in the two hours I sat there only the one guy, besides the church members stopped to see if I needed help. I guess I can't blame people for not stopping to help, but it sure was nice of that guy. I will be saying a couple little prayers to bless him tonight.
