Trip Report The "I Can't See!!" Trip Report

Welcome everyone!! I'm so excited to get started on this TR!! I wanted to start it a week or so ago but life gets in the way.... I finally have some time to devote to this so here we go!!!

WHO: "The same old, same old crew": myself, my nephew J & my sister E
351752

WHERE: The usual:) Port Orleans Riverside
351750

WHEN: Sunday, February 3rd-Thursday, February 7th

THE REASON FOR THE TITLE:
All this and I still couldn't see!!:arghh: My vision issues came into play many times during this trip.
351751

To explain this a bit.....
A few weeks before the trip I went for my yearly eye exam. My doctor said my eyes were extremely dry so she prescribed me steroid drops to take for a week. When I went back a week later she said I could order glasses but wanted me to try different contacts before I ordered them. She felt given my dry eyes my best bet was going to be contacts that are disposed of daily(they're awesome but not cheap in the least). She gave me a bunch of samples but unfortunately she didn't have any samples in the multifocals. She said that I would have to use readers with the contacts since the samples were only for distance. But her main concern at that point was figuring out which contacts would be most comfortable for me. My new glasses came in three days before we left so I was able to have them but to be totally honest--I ABSOLUTELY HATE WEARING GLASSES. Reasons: Can't wear sunglasses, get spotted in the rain, fog up when you go from the cold into the heat, & the biggest thing for me--my perception(esp. walking down steps) is totally different with glasses--you don't know how many times I trip when I have them on!! I've worn contacts since high school so I'm used to them & that's what I prefer. I will admit for years I would sleep with them in, wake up, squirt some saline in my eyes & I was good to go. If you're reading this & have that habit please stop it now. It's what caused my dry eyes & even though it's not the worst problem to have it's still not comfortable.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 2ND
I was double checking my suitcase & happened to jump on MDE. It was like deja vu(this happened when we were there in September also). E & J's reservation was showing but mine was nowhere to be found.
351743

I closed out, opened the app again then was able to breathe a sigh of relief.
351744

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 3RD
I was awakened shortly after midnight by a text from E. Uh-oh, trouble already & we haven't left yet!!
351745

Keep in mind my last text to her--it will come into play later!!

When I got up that morning it hit me like a ton of bricks'"If she doesn't have luggage tags she's not set up for ME then either". I texted her to let her know that but she never responded. Our flight wasn't leaving until 1:45 that afternoon so she & I both went to work that morning. We ran into each other at Starbucks(what's the chances of that:hilarious:)on our way to our works. I asked her if she saw the text I sent her that morning & she said no. I told her she probably was going to have an issue with the ME. She said she would call them after she took care of a few things at work.

We left at 11:45 for the airport. We wanted to leave a little earlier but E's husband didn't think it was necessary since it was a Sunday & there wouldn't be too much traffic and b/c we had TSA Precheck.
J's excited to go!!
351746

J & I couldn't really talk on the way to the airport. E & her husband are both funeral directors and they were both on their phones making arrangements for two different families at the same time. Those conversations sounded pretty interesting let me tell you....
Side note:the best is when we're in line for something at Disney & she's on the phone with work & says something like "Did someone pick him up from the morgue yet?" You should see the looks she gets!!:hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

E hard at work....
351747

I bet you can tell which suitcase is mine.
351748

We bid farewell to E's husband & headed to the non existent TSA Precheck line!!

What a fun night at MK! The French fries from Casey's looked delicious. :) I've experienced the same thing at the parks with other guests who either are oblivious to being in your picture or actually want to be in your picture. The personal space thing with the IASW hand is pretty creepy. I need my personal space.;)

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 4TH

We had FP's for the 11:00 showing of FotLK. By the time we got there wasn't anyone left in the FP line.
353167

J & I were placing bets on which section we would be in.
353168

353169

353170

353171

Now, FotLK, is a show that always brings a tear to my eye. Not that day though. E & I both felt that something was missing. Don't misinterpret me, it was still good but it didn't have that WOW factor that it normally does for me.

I thought this was cute.
353172

J pointed out this little fella to us.
353173

We decided to get lunch before our last FP. We went with an oldie but goodie--Yak & Yeti!!
353174

See the CM on the right? She was handing out menus while you waited in line. When she handed me one I thanked her but said I didn't need it. E's smart comment, "That's right because you can't read it anyway." She was partially right b/c I couldn't read it so it would have done me no good but the real reason was b/c I already knew what I wanted. I could read the menu off of the sign perfectly but not having multifocal contacts in meant I couldn't read something two feet in front of me.
353175

We had our usuals--chicken fried rice & egg rolls. So good!!

I've never stayed at Port Orleans Riverside because the French Quarter always seemed more manageable to get around but after seeing your beautiful rooms and how pretty the landscape looks, I'd definitely consider a stay there! The lines getting into AK have been so crazy for the last year or so but the AP line does help a bit. Looks like you're all having a fun morning together. :)

I've only gotten lost in the Alligator Bayou section once. It was during our first ever trip and we got off at the wrong bus stop. It's a little spooky late at night :) We found out way back to building 85 in the Mansion section after following the signs to Ole Man Island. Our feet were already sore after a full day at the parks but that walk trying to find out room about did us in! The second lost story was when my husband and I disagreed over which path was quicker back to my room. So he had the great idea of us each going our way (after dark!) and see who got to the room first. Naturally, I was first but he should've been a couple minutes behind me. But he didn't show up. He got totally lost. I still haven't let him forget it either!!

The fries were great. I'm so glad I decided on them! Trust me, had I been able to somehow move away from Mr. Touchy Feely I would have. But, I guess my only option would have been to go overboard!!

FQ is definitely a lot smaller but Riverside's size doesn't bother me in the least. It is a very pretty resort. Yes--thank goodness for the AP line although I've come across quite a few instances where it was easier to go through the regular line. Yes--we did have fun!!
I always enjoy your photos of POR but I’m enjoying them even more this time knowing that we will be there at the end of the year (and same room type too so I’ll get to enjoy the same view 😀)
Perfect!! I'm excited for you!!

Last year my sister & her daughters got lost in the bayou section at night also. She was beyond aggravated & was texting me the whole time hoping I could help her. Having never stayed in that section I was of no help!!
It sounds like getting lost in that section is not totally abnormal!!
I have never tried yak and yeti, the menu looks so good. Might have to try it out next time.

It is really good. I can only speak for the egg rolls & fried rice b/c that's all I've ever had there but I'm sure it's all good!!

I also have extremely dry eyes and the only contacts I can comfortably wear are the CooperVision ProClear. I once had a new optometrist that refused to prescribe them for me because she said they were "outdated technology" and she had me try 4 different types of contacts and none of them worked. I demanded to see a new doctor and he said that they ones she was giving me were known to not work with "heavy protein depositers" like I was, which was making these contacts even more uncomfortable on my dry eyes. So he gave me my beloved ProClears and said "if it's not broke, don't fix it" LOL. A former coworker was suffering with dry eyes at work and I suggested he talk to his doctor about the CooperVision brand. He asked so the doctor gave him the Biofinity I think and he said it was the most comfortable pair of contacts he's ever worn. Contacts will still bother me but much later in the day and nothing that Refresh eye drops and ClearCare solution can't fix. Turns out the solution I was using was part of the problem. I can only wear my glasses at home where I'm not focusing on many things at one time. If I wear glasses out for too long then I'll get bad migraines and painful pressure on my nose and ears.

Looking forward to hearing more about your trip. I tried convincing the husband to switch resorts to Riverside but he didn't like the extra $600. So it was a no go :( But I was more annoyed to see that the Sun and Fun offer only offered $5 off the rack room price. Only $5?!!!!

That's the same brand that I wear and they work pretty good for my dry eyes! Also switched to BioTrue solution and it seemed to do the trick. Most of the time, I don't have issue until it gets later in the evening and they've been in all day.

I could easily title the next few posts "Kilimanjaro Safaris Through the Eyes of a Three Year Old". Besides J really getting into selfies he also took a liking to using mine or his moms phone to take pictures during this trip. I will spare you the majority of the 119 photos he took on our safari:jawdrop:(and I thought I took a lot of pictures on the safaris!!) This is one of his favorite attractions so I guess that is why he was so camera happy!!

He actually ended up taking quite a few decent pictures & I told E they could have been better if he used the zoom & wasn't getting so much of the vehicle in them. I didn't want to help him improve his photography skills though b/c I was afraid that if he lifted my phone up too high or was trying to use the zoom it would complicate things for him and my phone would end up with the giraffes!!

Now that J got the hang of how to reverse the camera he wanted us to take a selfie.
353627

He looks like he was really concentrating on what he was doing!!

353628

353629

Here's a pretty good one!!
353630

His favorite--the flamingos!!
353631

353632

353633

His last photo(for now)was a group selfie!!
353634

We were held up for a bit at the end.

My doctor has me using Dailies Total 1. Every morning & evening I put a few drops of Thera Tears in. So far they have been working well. I'm the same way--my issues start later in the day.
That sounds like something my sister would say to me.
Our family is very sarcastic!! I think she was tired of having to read things to me by the end of the trip. It was such a pain to pull my readers out of my bag all the time so I started having her read my text messages to me!!

We decided to head out so we could get to Epcot in the hopes that J would take a nap once we got there. We never made it to Pandora or Dinoland but that's ok. There's always next time!
353655

353656

We waited about 15 minutes for an Epcot bus. We were the last people that were able to fit on it & it was quite hard trying to stay behind the yellow line on the bus. If just a few people would have moved back just a little bit it wouldn't have been so bad.
353658

353659

No lines to get in!!
353660

We stopped to get our picture taken. I can't share it with you b/c it never showed up in my account.....
353661

The CM talked so long to the couple in front of us to the point where we felt like just walking away. In hindsight I guess we should have since we didn't get our pictures anyway!!
I guess J was getting bored waiting & picked a flower to give to his mom:oops: Neither E or I noticed him doing it.
353662

You can see by that smile that he was very proud of himself though!!
353663

He tried to pick another one & we corrected him. That must have got the CM's attention b/c her comment was, "I don't care. They're not mine."
353664

E had misplaced her's & J's AP cards so she went to guest relations to get new ones while I went to get us Starbucks.

J was sleeping then. We took turns riding Test Track. E's ride photo never showed up.

We checked out this car for a bit.
353673

Nemo was a walk on so I went on that next.
353674

I paid my manatee friends a visit for a few minutes. I always enjoy seeing them.

It was about 4:30 at this point & J woke up and wanted to go on Nemo. Round two for me for the day!!
353685

Since we were in the neighborhood we headed to LWTL next.

We checked this guy out for a few minutes.
353690

We looked at some art on our way back to WS. I wish we would have had more time to check more out than what we did but we had a reservation to get to.

I snapped a picture as we walked around WS.
353698

E was looking forward to this dinner. This would be her first time eating here. It had been four years since I had been here & I was excited to go back. Let me tell you--the excitement was short lived.....
353699

We got there about 10 minutes before our reservation time & just waited a few minutes.
353700

By the time our waitress got to us I think I had the menu memorized. It took her that long. She did apologize for taking forever to get to us.
353701

We figured it would be wise to order our food while we ordered our drinks. We could tell we were going to be in for a long night if not. E ordered eggplant, J got cheese ravioli and I got a margherita pizza. Our waitress asked if it was alright for J's food to come out before ours. E said yes.
E left something in the stroller that she needed so she went out to get it. I figured I would take a few pictures but as soon as I took the first one........
353702

......this happened. J's food arrived!! I'm not kidding--it only took her 3 minutes to come back with it from the time she took the order. E came back a minute later & couldn't believe it was there already. I'm guessing there was an extra one sitting around in the kitchen.
353703

J had just started playing with his cars & he said he didn't want to eat until his mom came back. The good thing was once he started eating he ate everything on his plate.
353704

We finally got drinks & bread.
353705

Notice E's shirt--it says "Mom's Favorite". The first time we saw her wear that we asked her where she got that from & she said that our mom bought it for her:rolleyes:

According to the time on my pictures my pizza came out 15 minutes after J's ravioli. When our waitress brought out my pizza she told E her eggplant would be another 10 minutes!! How ridiculous!! I know she's my sister but I felt so bad eating in front of her. I kept offering some of my pizza & she finally did have a slice. Her eggplant did come out exactly 10 minutes later. We all enjoyed our food but decided it would be quite some time before we go back there. J had been done eating for awhile so he was getting a bit anxious & kept telling E that he wanted a funnel cake(probably the reason he ate all his ravioli;)). I told her to take him to get the funnel cake & I would wait for the bill. Not surprisingly I waited, and waited, and waited.......
353706

By the time I made it to E she was just getting waited on. I felt like everyone was in slow motion that evening.
