EPCOT New Play Pavilion to replace Epcot's Wonders of Life

Hey I agree, I guess I'm happy that they are putting anything in those empty buildings. so I'd rather a new fun ride without a theme than a bunch of empty buildings, one that actually smells like vomit when you walk in it. but full disclosure, I'm not sure I ever went to any of the parks and thought about whether or not it was "cohesive". When I went on frozen, my thought was not "it doesn't belong in Norway". my thought was, "man this is so much better than that god awful maelstrom".

Maybe GoTG ties in with the future world?

I guess I'll say for a third time that nobody is asking for 1982 Epcot to come back verbatim. Hell, I wasn't even born until nearly 5 years after that.

We want Disney to stick to the mission of the park. To inspire awe and celebrate man's achievements while looking optimistically toward the future. The world and especially the nation have never needed something like that more than now. We actually yearn for the park to continue changing and evolving and updating, but within the tenets upon which it was designed.

If that isn't clear to you from me literally saying it multiple times and laying out exactly what Epcot "purists" actually want, then I'm out of efforts.

The fact that you refuse to acknowledge anything I'm actually saying and keep beating the same false assumption to death kinda makes this a pointless discussion.

I have been a bit off the forum recently, but I've yet to see any explanation as to the story of the GotG ride which will be put into energy. Lots of discussion about how the box looks from the parking lot but no idea about what they are spending gobs of money on.

In theory there may be something interesting besides simply lame street signs inside a dark box with a roller coaster. Maybe. I don't know.

But iirc Quill was taken from Earth to space and encountered extraterrestrial creatures and all that. That's a whole lot more achievement that most humans have done. Perhaps such an adventure could be considered inspiring. That maybe we might want to explore space.

Maybe that's more fitting for another pavilion but perhaps this ride could discuss energy as well. I don't know and no one that I've heard seems to be divulging.

If it's simply another RnRC then I'll be disappointed. Until then, I'm withholding judgment. But then as much as I did like Maelstrom and what it stood for, I am willing to accept Frozen as a representative of Norway so there is that as well.

Seriously, how's that working for us? really. Ok so we hold them to some "higher" standard, not really sure what that means because I don't think we (I'm assuming that means general public) could all agree on what that "higher standard" is.

Have we not been doing that for the last 10-15 years? and what is in Epcot now?

I apologize, this derailment was my fault. someone posted how GotG was nonsense (can't remember the exact words) and I wanted to know how they came to that conclusion considering the ride isn't due to open until next year I believe.

I'm actually very happy they are taking out that sorry Ellen's universe but I'm of the opinion that Epcot is so sad and lonely, yep I guess I've got lower standards because absolutely any thing is better than whats there now. empty buildings and old attractions is not what I would call "quality".

It's fine. There has been a derailment before you commented that. I can understand the anger, but to me and many others, stuff like this has been coming for a long long time. Sure the better than nothing mindset is a bad one, but honestly, after so many years of C@#% Epcot, can you blame us?

No, I don't believe play pavilion is going to be a glorified meet n greet, but I am also not expecting innoventions or disneyquest levels of interaction either. What I expect to be there is some smaller interactive things. Like a dance room, maybe a theater simulator ride or similar, a rest area for kids, etc.

Agreed, looks like potentially a place for kids too young for the three rides in that side of the park to hang in the AC while mom and dad take turns in the single rider lines.

Me too. I think if we could strike a better balance between the news and rumors that we've heard from reliable sources and our personal reactions to the information we're discovering, that'll be better.

Many members on this forum are stuck in a nostalgic phase of what Epcot once was/could have been/will never be anymore.

To be fair, that's a pretty common thing these days, going well beyond Epcot, and going well beyond Disney for that matter. If you really want to see the impact of being "stuck in a nostalgic phase", check into cruising.

I know that I am ----ing in the wind here, but I still say that it makes no sense that they can't use Nat Geo as an IP basis (if they need one) to bring back the "wonder" in Epcot attractions. Not to mention producing a Discovery-like television show (streaming or network, either one) at Epcot about the wonders of life and other amazing things that would build on the Epcot vision and "brand". It is still able to strong, if they let it.

They're just lazy.

I know I will get dinged for this... but I have to ask why?
I work for a large global consumer goods company, and we are slaves to what our consumers and business partners want.
For all of the discussion of Disney sets what consumers wants, that simply isn't true anymore. Disney IS a business, and has to make the money count - more so since they can't seem to budget worth a darn, and pay waayyy too much for what they do.

All that being said, with business the driver and getting consumers to race to Disney - they simply can't under sell what that consumer wants. I grant there are some very loyal old guard Disney fans that want everything to be the same, but I just don't think that is the market Disney is forced to play in now.

VR and screens and roller coasters and Marvel and all are what fans and consumers want. I am NOT saying GotG belongs in Epcot. That being said Epcot simply isn't Epcot any longer, and if GotG is a well themed coaster, and the playland is well themed, and they do other adds and fixes, it WILL be what consumers want. Quite frankly we the minority here aren't whats holding Disney to standard.

"Good enough" has been made "good enough" because of what I tend to believe more and more each day - People are dumb.

And "good enough" with consumer products means you get a lesser-quality product at a lower price (and I don't agree with that trend, either). That is definitely NOT the case with a Disney theme park, where a premium is being charged. But hey, the quarterly financials look good and shareholders and stock analysts are happy, and that's all that matters.
