Oh, we texted Julie ahead of time to make sure she was going to be there! Just left and had a fabulous time.

With park tickets, a Disneyland hotel, flights, food, rental car, Santa Cruz hotel, and Aquarium tickets, I'm looking at a $4.5k trip. Which is roughly double what I spend when I go to WDW I think I'm doing this backwards....

That one was from a very long time ago, but, I still remember the clients last name being Martin.
It was built and turned out quite spectacular!
I made a note on my phone to check with our marketing specialist Monday morning to access photos of it from our archives...!!!

How cool! My 2 youngest would have loved to have one of those. They are always building cardboard houses and making rooms in them. I am guessing it took loads of time to make those and if a client didn’t like one aspect someone would have to make a new one. Bet the computer program is a blessing.

Yep, definitely cool, but, so very time-consuming. And, we never even started those models ‘til the client signed off, and, if they had a sudden change, and wanted another one built, they incurred the cost...we hafta’ make a living too...!!!
The SketchUp program is definitely a major blessing beyond the physical models, but, we also have to follow certain ways of grouping, making components, etc., parts of the models for easier manipulation of the model if changes are requested.
It can all get quite crazy much of the time, but, soooooo much easier to deal with through SketchUp...!!!

Very cool!!!

Those physical models usually took weeks to build, and were, obviously, never exactly perfect. Much less time-consuming with SketchUp, and the models are very precise based on the standards the firm has implemented, because, in our business that is a must.
After that, based on how much detail and/or fly by/through the client wants, and based on fees , we can also take a SketchUp model to a rendering program called Piranesi, which takes the sharp edges off SketchUp and softens everything for a much more artistic feel.
Unfortunately, this is the only Piranesi rendering pic I have on my phone, in our main conference room to see if clients will notice...!!!!!

The next level is a program called Lumion.
Sorry, but, this is a 3.5 min. video I shot off my computer screen at the office of a townhome project that I was involved in design-wise that is currently under construction on Lake Travis just down the road.
As you’ll see, it also includes a small shopping mart, and a restaurant and bar...!!!

Wow, that's really cool that you can do a virtual tour!! DD would LOVE that. She loves Sketchup and drawing, and computer programming, etc. At her school, they have Technasium for the top 2 levels, and they all have to do that class for junior high, but they can drop it after their 2nd year. At first, she really wasn't sure if she was going to want to do it, but now it's one of her favorite classes. They trade that on and off with art, though, and today was her last technasium class for this quarter, so now she has art again, and then she'll have technasium again later. But basically, local businesses give the groups a project to research and design. DD's group worked on something cardboard for this company that makes cardboard cutouts for packaging, and they were looking to expand. DD's group came up with a pooper scooper, and the company might actually use their design, which is cool. Her mentor actually has designed a lot of products and was just asked to help design a "plushy"? (whatever that is) for a youtuber. Here's a weird mystery for everyone.....

Last night, just before 8pm everyone's lights flickered. Not long enough to turn off TVs, but long enough that the lights went full dark. This happened across central ohio, on different power stations, on different grids, but all at the exact same time.

People who were out driving report seeing a bright flash in the sky and then a blue haze on the horizon at the time the lights all flickered.

That brings back memories. Years ago, I worked in an academic office of a graduate school of architectural design. Often, I'd go out into the "studios" where the student would be "charretting" their projects. Many of those models were quite impressive and very detailed--similar to some in your photos above. I used to love watching them do this.

You’ve seen more of that than I have, then...!!!
But, I’ve heard about sooo many professor-induced crying episodes during those charrettes over the years...
As y’all already know, I barely spent any appreciable time at even our local community college, but, my 3-hr. a day morning drafting class in HS during both my junior and senior years gave me so much more real-world experience, as we started doing construction documents for a local builder as part of our work in that class to earn money to help defer the cost of going to regional and state competitions, during my junior year and through senior year.
Poor kiddos can’t do it that way these days, but, it was attainable through that route way back when. So, these days, I not only know new tech, but, old school drafting table, and hand sketching/lettering stuff. Only myself and 3 of the 4 partners also know old school hand sketching/lettering. And, 2 of the partners don’t know how to use SketchUp and 2 don’t know how to use CAD. But, I know old school, CAD, and SketchUp...so, fortunately, there’s a reason they keep my ol’ beeeeeeehind around...!!!!!!!

I was checking my personal e-mail and I saw a spam-ish e-mail from Papa Johns re. their promotional $12 Philly cheesesteak pizza for the Super Bowl.
Whoa! I totally forgot about the Super Bowl! I think this year is the most disinterested I've ever been. The Rams got there with the help of 2 referees who froze instead of throwing the much deserved flag......and the Patriots have been in the Super Bowl numerous times.
Does anyone else feel a lack of excitement for this upcoming event?

DD had so much fun tonight at the theater thing. It was brilliant. It was just 2 actors who come in from London to do the workshop with the dual immersion kids. So they rehearse scenes right in front of you, and then perform them all together. It was all about Victorian England and what it was like for children...the schools, the jobs they had to do, like going up into chimneys because they were small. Or working in the sewers, or coal mines, etc. A couple of kids got to do death scenes...very dramatic. Unfortunately, DD was on the opposite side of where we were sitting, so I couldn't get a picture of her.

I don't even know when it is. I'm pretty sure they show it over here, but it would probably be the middle of the night for me...and I'm not a sports fan. Unless it's gymnastics....I do love gymnastics.
