So the spinning move? You are right, he won't gain any confidence unless he actually plays.

I've posted this before...
I used to play in a Town & Country soccer/football league down here in my younger days.
We lobbied the school board to get soccer into the Athletic program at HS, and they did.
I played varsity defense, plus, for the 2 years.
Some darn good memories there...so much good talent in that team...!!!!!

My RANDOM post for today:
Did you ever think that the Auto Shops that offer the Tire Sale: "Buy 3 Tires get the 4th One Free" must have a trick re. that?
.....like maybe they raise the price of one tire so when you pay for three and get one free....well they still manage to make some profit?
Well, I needed to buy all 4 tires and I shopped 4 places.......and........"Pep Boys" was featuring a "FALKEN TIRES" buy three get one free sale.
I saved a bunch of $$$$s!!!! There was no mark up. No tricks! :joyfull:
The other stores/shops I got quotes from were: Mr. Tire, Costco, and Mavis Discount Tires
None of them offered me Falken. Each were told by me that I was doing value/comparison shopping.
.........................just sharin' this in case anyone's tires are near the end of their tread life. :)
I have to honestly say that I have never heard of Falken Tires. Are they made in the Falken Islands out of material scraped from the teeth of the local population? Just kidding, I know they are a Japanese brand, but, I'm not kidding when I say I never heard of them before until you just mentioned them. Let us know how they work out.:)

Such different experiences...
We went to Pep Boys way back when. I know a bit about cars, and I know they were trying to screw us. Never trusted them again, and took the vehicle to another repair shop...never have gone back. They can go Pep themselves...I don't like being looked straight in my face and being lied to like a dog.
Glad you had a positive exoerience!
We have a Discount Tire here. They fix flats for free, replace any faulty product without a hassle (although none of us has ever had faulty product from them, and my 85-year-old pop likes them ;)), etc.
Buying new tires shouldn't be a pain, and they make it so easy...!!!

And, as always, big chains have such different management or staffing from location to location...one location spot on, another location not. And, combine bad management with bad staffing...it's a carp shoot... :cyclops:
I was having trouble with my CD player in my car so I brought it to the dealer for warranty work. I have been getting all my regular servicing done by a garage very close to where I live and they do a good job. While I was there I asked them how much they charged for an oil change. With a straight face they told me $80.00. Just about twice what my present garage charges. It uses synthetic oil and they use a very good quality brand. He told me that VW demands a specific chemical make up synthetic oil and rattled off a bunch of numbers that I knew were bogus and meant nothing. I am going to continue using my garage where I can get the oil changed twice for that price. That is the reason why I never use the dealer for anything other then warranty stuff.

Mr. Google said Falken Tires Co. was established in 1983.
I've had them before, on my 2010 Mazda CX-9. They were good. Yesterday I researched the tires each of the four local businesses offered me. This tire was rated by reviewers on an independent site as 4.5 stars out of 5. ;)
I have every expectation that I'll like them on my 2016 CX-5

The specific tire for my car was "Antares Comfort A5".....which only seems to be offered by that chain. Reviewers on their own company's website gave it 3 stars out of 5. The low marks showed up especially when reviewers considered the traction on ice and on snow.
It would be NICE if NJ was DONE with ice and snow until next winter ;):D

I'm sure they will be fine. It just scares me a little because I remember just a few years ago Toyota was having a problem with the tires on new cars only lasting 10 to 15K before they were worn out and blowing out. I guess they have fixed that problem, whatever it was.

Sympathy like.
Hope the weather people are wrong...........which wouldn't be the first time...!!!!! :hilarious:
Yep. They were wrong. Shocker. I am now in a hotel outside Baltimore because of the forecasted snowstorm, now rainstorm, that has gone south. Dd has a competition tomorrow and I need to be at the venue at 7:30, which in my head means I need to be there at 7. ;) So hopefully the AM drive will only be 15 minutes as Mr. Google has said. That may be a consolation for the $100 hotel room.

T’s baseball game is on for 9am tomorrow. We have to be there for warm ups at 8:30.

Temperature forecast- 30 degrees.

Soccer is one thing in cold weather, but I don’t know about baseball.. I’m going to put several layers under his uniform! I’m going to also pick up some hand warmers for him to use while sitting out. I may make a large jug of hot chocolate for the team. This is going to be CRAZY.

That is freezing and rough for baseball. At least in soccer the kids are runnimg around. There is a lot of standing around in baseball. Hope they do well though. :) I know they haven’t practiced much.

Last night I watched a little of the NY Yankees home game. Their new star who played for Florida's Marlins looked particularly cold and uncomfortable 😒

I wanted to comment on your earlier post about the “tire sales”.

In 2007 I bought a fancy new car. Was at the dealer negotiating til 11pm. At that point I just wanted to get in my new car and drive home, didn’t want any of the features explained. I’m sure the sales guy was relieved.lol. So anyway, about 10 days later I’m driving on the highway to meet friends.. a light comes on.

I think, ‘that’s a weird light, have no clue what it means’.. but I reassure myself that my car is brand new, I’m 2 miles from my exit, nothing could be too wrong with it. I’ll check the manual when I arrive to my destination.

Moments later- BOOM. One of my front tires blew out.

Called roadside. Apparently it was a Tire Pressure Light. There was a piece of metal stuck in my tire, fairly deep.
Ok whatever. Lesson learned. Drive with the new tire to my destination.

Next day I go to a tire shop. They said that my tires were special order and @ $500 each... BUT.. they were running a Buy 2 get 2 on Michelin, and I could replace all 4 so I didn’t have to worry about being in this same positions again.
I said - “Go for it. I definitely don’t need some high performance tires.”

Bought the 2 for 4 deal, patted myself on the back.

I’m driving home and tell my sig other how smart and sensible I am.

He says “WHAT? You gave them the 3 brand new tires for free?”
“Um, yeah. What would I do with the tires? They were too expensive and I don’t need them.”
He replied- “Negotiate a discount on the new ones! They’re going to turn around and sell those 3 tires.”

Oops. :hilarious: They got me.

Lol. Recently we are swapping good stories. I enjoyed the way you framed the whole memory. You skillfully set up the end of the story. :)

It’s cancelled. All games prior to 11am are cancelled. Afternoon games are still on.. it’s also an away game, they don’t have field space to fit us in later.

I’m anxious to see them play, but I agree with the cancellation. 30 degrees is too cold for kids to play baseball.

Ha ha. I’ll never forget it. I was so proud of myself for being “sensible”. Especially after utilizing my negotiating skills and getting a fantastic deal on the car itself.
I remember smiling driving home just feeling like a proud woman who didn’t let some carguy or tire shop “men” take advantage of me.
Then my own guy had to wreck it all for me.lol..Oh I was so mad!!! Those guys were probably laughing at me as I drove away.
(Btw-from that point on I knew what a TPMS light was :hilarious:)

Also Btw.. I still haven’t looked for the Phantom playbill! I wonder if it was the same one that you and Goofeyerthanmost attended.. I’m going to dig in the basement on Sunday.

@SteveBrickNJ .. the only thing I can find in those dates is “Phantom”.. that must be it. I can’t link it to the venue though.. Music Hall Cincinnati is where I attended... maybe I’m too old for the Internet to go back that far?🙄
I don’t know what else it could be!!

New camera came in today. I'm excited to play around with it this weekend, but tested it out in the low light of my darkened den on the auto setting:

Gonna need to learn how to shift the focus, which is on her paw in this, but overall you can't even tell it's taken in low light!

Wow, nice!!! I can’t wait to see more photos!

When my wife and I were dating, she had a minor accident with her car where she slid off the road and her right rear wheel hit a tree stump very slightly bending the wheel. The repair shop showed her that the tire was dented in the same spot as the wheel. He told her she needed a new tire because it was bent. That went into a you need to buy all 4 because we don't have one to match the rest. (another fake problem) She bought them. I tried my best not to laugh when she told me what happened. I explained that even if the tire was bent, it was made of rubber. The wheel needed replacing, but, not necessarily the tire. And particularly not all four. That was the single motivation that I had when my girls were old enough that I taught them all about mechanical things dealing with cars. They did their own oil and filter changes and even brake jobs when it was necessary. I don't want them to be at the mercy of a crooked mechanic. It wasn't my wife's fault, she was never taught any different.
