I remember there was another toy store growing up in the 70’s. It was Kids World I think. Then there was K B Toys. Anyone remember those?
K B Toys seems familiar.
I knew that our local Sears store in Ocean County Mall was having a "store closing sale" but I only learned just today that the K-Mart in my town is doing the exact same thing.
Driving past vacant stores can be a downer. :(

It should be a requirement that companies must take old vacant buildings first before building new ones.

The US has more retail space than any other country out there ( per captia) so expect more to cone.

It is a downer and hard to understand. Here in Cary, NC which is supposed to be one of the most affluent cities in NC, Malls are dying a slow death. I've lost count of how many shopping centers are empty or half the stores are empty. The main mall in town has lost over 28 stores out of 55. One was a Sears and another was a Macy's. (I have no idea what is keeping J.C. Penney's alive.) Both were huge stores. The rest have been closing up on the average of one per month. Also, many of the chain restaurants are following suit. Right here where the headquarters for Golden Corral is only about 8 miles away we lost ours here in Cary, also a 5 Guys, TGIF, Macaroni Grill, Carrabba's, Bob Evans, Chili's, Sweet Tomatoes and even a Burger King just across the road from the High School. (how could that have happened) And yet, they keep telling us how great the economy is. Tell that to all the people that lost jobs in those places.

@donaldtoo , you have your regular half day Friday coming up. We might also get out early tomorrow afternoon by 2 or 3, due to Good Friday. Don't know what's up with my boss these days--could be crackin up--suggested we all have a nice long Easter weekend. (Not everyone in our group is religious, but they all supported the gesture of getting out early tomorrow!) :hilarious:

WOOOHOOOOO!!!!! for gettin' sprung early...!!!!!!! :joyfull:
Yes, every Friday is a "Good Friday" ;) for me!!!
Hope you enjoy your long Easter weekend...!!!!!

Recently our Fuddruckers changed its menu. They offered quesadillas on their menu that you could customize at the topping bar. It was really cheap as well. It was under $6 when you just got a cheese and it was huge. Littlest dd and I would share. Anyway one day back late last fall it was gone. All I had to choose from was a grilled cheese or a veggie burger, and the veggie burgers are the frozen kind that I don't really like. Well we hadn't been in in 4 months so we went the other day cause the kids were begging. We bumped into one of the workers we knew (because we had been regulars). She asked what happened to us and we explained that since the quesadilla was gone, we just didn't have an urge to go as much. She said that she used to eat them and a lot of people came in to eat them as well. She said it was corporates decision. They are based in TX. Well you would think that a quesadilla would be a good thing in TX. Apparently they didn't sell well in TX, so they decided to remove it. She said they sold pretty well up here in the Northeast. She swears they lost a lot of customers because the quesadilla and the baked beans were removed.

We have a Fuddruckers 5 mins. down the road near the mall. We used to go there pretty often, but, it's been at least a few years. I don't ever remember quesadillas or baked beans on the menu. Maybe because you can get them at so many other places (DS had quesadillas
tonight) around here...? IDK?
My go to was usually a 1/3 lb. burger with just cheese on it that I would dump a little A-1 on. That's it...cheesy chopped steak sandwich...!!! :hungry:
Never had a bad burger there, but, it sounds like they aren't doing adequate regional, and even location to location research. I thought most companies payed people good money to do that?
Then again, maybe it was a profit margin thing...?
Who knows...? :cyclops:

Saw more sandwich talk back there...

We have Firehouse and Jersey Mike's, but, haven't tried either, yet. We also have Jimmy John's. I, generally, like JJ and the bread is great. But, they use lettuce as wayyyyy too much of a filler IMHO. The last time (and I mean the last time...haven't been back since) I ordered a roast beef with everything else except lettuce just to compare...paltryist sub I've ever seen. If I ever wanna' order a lettuce sub I know where to go...and, indeed, it'll be the fastest lettuce sub delivery ever...! ;)

We also have at least two awesome homegrown sub shops that we absolutely love...Thundercloud Subs and Delaware Sub Shop.
The whole wheat bread at TS is so good, and they have their "Thunder Sauce" that is just sooo very good with an extra little kick to it.
DSS bread has a slightly crisp crust, but, the inside is amazingly soft and scrumptious. It's own awesomeness...! :hungry:
They also make really good cheesesteak sandwiches, and a killer Italian sub with their own sliced pickled peppers, that are just sooo an incredibly perfect sweet and sour combination...!!!!! :hungry:

I don't remember Kids World, but, I remember KB was in our local mall when it first opened in '95. It was gone before '00 though, IIRC.
Times just keep a' goin' and a' changin'...
When people ask me "How's it goin'?" I usually reply "It goes...no matter what I do, it just keeps goin'...!!!"
Goin' a bit too fast, much of the time, but, hey, that's not my department, and I definitely wouldn't want to be in charge of it...!!! ;)

JCPenney does a pretty good job of adjusting their service model for the changing times, so that's how they're still doing okay. They have a strong online presence, they carry extended sizes in the store itself, they added a toy section like Kohl's has, they added at least one family restroom inside most that I've been in, etc. Plus they have Sephora inside most of their stores (same with Macy's and MAC) and that definitely helps bring people physically into the store. JCPenney, Macy's, Gap/Old Navy, Victoria's Secret, H&M.... These stores will likely outlive most of their competitors in the mall, because they have that strong online presence and they do pretty well keeping up with change.
