@dryerlintfan on our MK morning we liked the walk to the ferry. It was less hectic than the monorail

I'll keep that in mind!! I'm sure she'd love the boat!

Actually can anyone walk to SOG from Poly? I am now curious to see it. Can anyone eat there or do you need a military ID?

Everything online says they check ID at the gate so only military and hotel guests can go. They apparently also check before letting you on their buses. The walk looks pretty from the pictures I've seen, until you get to the monorail area where you clearly enter the supplies drop off area for Poly. From what I've read they don't usually check ID at the restaurants but they will at the AAFES. In fact, the biggest complaint about the hotel since the refurb is that they check ID so much that it takes away from the magic, but I'm definitely not going to care about that.

Really? I'm her great grandson who timetraveled to warn her about fake long lost unknow brothers!

You walk through Poly property, cross the street it's pretty, the hotel is very nice and refurb was recently finished not sure it's worth time out of busy trip.View attachment 264347View attachment 264348View attachment 264349View attachment 264350

I had back to back meetings today and only had a 45 minute break around lunchtime. I spent it looking up how to protect yourself from an alligator attack :hilarious::hilarious: I feel much better about your pictures now. Apparently they have very little stamina, don't like pursuing their prey very far, and are generally only a real danger if you're hanging out by the water where they can drag you in and death roll you.

I'm absolutely not letting A down on the walkways near the water unless she's holding my hand though.

Thank you sir. You were an inspiration.

Just travel with @figmentfan423 's tribe. They would eat any gators before it got to you.

Over the years I've seen a few in different waterways on property. Disney was built on a swamp in Florida so you'll see some once in a while.

I hafta' say, all 3 of our kiddos were never teen crazy. They acted like typical teens from time to time, but, never anything crazy. We never had any issues with drug or alcohol use/abuse, promiscuity, sneaking out at night, driving tickets, etc.
DWifey and myself still talk about how blessed we were, and continue to be...!!!!! :inlove::happy:
The best way I look at it is how they were raised. I compare what you mentioned to my younger brother and I.

My younger brother and I were different than some of the classmates we had in school. My younger brother and I stayed away from drugs, Alcohol, and smoking. We also didn't skip school either.

My younger brother and I grow up in a house that my parents didn't put up with anything. I came from a house hold that if you get in trouble, you get television, video games, etc. taken away and you had to set in the kitchen table reading books or play with your thumbs.

I'm glad that you posted that on this site. People need to realize that Universal may not be Walt's park, but, Seuss Landing very readily shows that they can theme with the best of them. In fact, I don't think I can remember any Disney attraction that has that much theming involved with it. It makes Disney look like a bunch of upstarts.

And the woody woodpecker area has so much to do for young kids too including areas to run around, blow off steam like Disney extinct child attractions like Toon and The Shrunk playground set at the studios. Universals Woody area has a Barney indoor building for kids to cool off, play on tree forts designed for the young with slides, spitting frogs, a train they can board that is meant to climb on, So much to do in their Kids Zone

Sometimes. Other times parents can be the best and some offspring just go off in an unexpected direction. I have a few friends that were pretty wild in high school and right out of highschool and got themselves in bits of trouble. Salt of the Earth parents too. But they straightened themselves out, married and raised several very nice children. Sometimes we blame parents, sometimes it is the schools 'cause they allow bullies, often rough crime areas and gangs are blamed, causes are many and sometimes how the child is being raised doesn't always reflect how these kids start to act out.

Mental illness is something I believe we can do better at servicing, diagnosing and treating. A great deal is known these days but reaching out and helping seems to be a stumbling block along with the how the heck is this and the facilities paid for? I struggle to blame so many parents for what has happened. I outright refuse to blame the staff, their students or their towns for these types of horrific days. Chicago lost a beloved career police officer earlier this week. The man that shot him was a 4 time felon that kept getting released. His continual release I don't blame the parents. It breaks my heart that so many lives are now lost in Florida because a young man with so many issues for so long wound up on the streets again and not because he was mentally well and stable. WE can do better and should IMO.

True (long) story: I had a long lost half brother that I had never met or talked to. When I was in Baghdad we had to take turns going on mid tour leave so no more than two soldiers were gone from our unit at a time. I kept delaying mine and delaying mine because I didn't have kids or obligations back home and other people needed to get home for things like family christmas or their children's spring breaks. So by the time it was finally my turn to take my mid tour leave, it was almost time to go home for good. I didn't want to go home for two weeks, say goodbye to everyone, go back to war, then come home a month later. So I'm sitting there thinking of all the places I can go instead of back home to America and the thought hits me..... my dad had a son when he was stationed in Germany.

So I called my dad and he only had this really old address, but assured me that people in Europe almost never moved. Houses in Germany are family houses and multi generational, not like in the states where we move every few years. So equipped with nothing but this 35 year old address, I made my way to Germany. The first thing I did when I got there was go to McDonald's and get myself a fountain drink. I cannot tell you how absolutely incredible that fountain drink was, after spending 14 months in the desert. But then I went in search of my half brother.

I took a flight, a 4 hour train ride, a 2 hour bus ride and finally a 1.5 mile walk in the drizzling rain to find his house. I nervously knocked on the door, honestly not sure what he would say or think or do. This man came out who was around the right age, but he told me that the owner of the house died three years before. My half brother was dead. He had moved in, and had never had a chance to know my brother. To console me, he mentioned that his neighbors were very friendly with Americans, so being that my half brother was half American maybe they would have known him and could tell me some stories about him. I agreed that some stories and maybe a couple pictures would be better than nothing.

But when I went next door, I saw my last name on the mailbox!! My dad had the address wrong!! I rang the doorbell and my half brother ran to meet me. He invited me to stay, and meet his mom and their whole family, and his ancient grandmother cooked a special German feast in my honor.

The BEST part though, was that because I had found him, he was able to connect with my siblings and parents. He flew to the States the next year to stay with our dad and visit his cousins and grandparents and nieces and nephews and his great aunt. Now our families are entwined and we'll never be long lost again! :inlove::inlove:

Very cool story. It also reminded me of the movie European Vacation when they go to the wrong address and stay with the wrong family in Germany!:)

I was sad when they removed the HOP section from the parade and replaced it with the pets one.

I wonder how long until they start adding Dreamworks characters to the parade.

Tomorrow I am having a nuclear stress test, and will come home from the facility with a 48 hour heart monitor. The cardiologist wants to find out once and for all if I do indeed have an irregular heartbeat. I also told him at my last appointment about how tired I get after certain activities. I attribute it to my age of course, but I guess it could be something else. I didn't realize that the stress test took so long. I just received a phone reminder about the procedure. Keep good thoughts about me tomorrow.

Sorry so late. Hopefully I will find out in a later post that the test went well and that there are no irregularities.
My pop had that done recently and, fortunately, all was well.

On a side note, I have a heart condition called supraventricular tachycardia. In an instant, and out of nowhere, my heart will, essentially, short circuit and will start beating at well over 200 bpm. The first time it happened was in my early 30's. I had to be converted with an adenosine IV in the ER. It basically flatlines you so your heart can assume a normal rhythm. It's not a fun feeling...at all.
I have had about a half-dozen of those events over the years since. Most of the others I had a med called verapamil with me that I took to convert myself, but, it usually took about 15 mins. or more. Not fun waiting, but, would have probably taken longer to get to the ER.
The last event I had was in Dec. of '08. The verapamil didn't work (probably 'cause it was long-expired ). I was converted with adenosine in the meat wagon on the way to the ER with that event.
The nice EMT lady said "You know the drill. I'm gonna' save ya', but, first, I gotta' kill ya'."
Crazy thing is, they told me it would get progressively worse over the years and I would eventually need ablation surgery. One doc (not the cardiologist, but, the one that would have done the ablation surgery) had me wear a monitor all day every day for 2 weeks. Did not have an event, and all that was detected were a few premature ventricular contractions.
So, no event in almost a decade. Knocking on wood...my head. :cyclops:

Again, prayers that all is well with you.
