Hurricane Irma

You do know the American crocodile isn't found in the Everglades. They prefer brackish water with a higher salinity than the Everglades. You will find them along coastal waters. Gators (not the UF variety) are essential to the health of the Everglades.

If you want to get technical, they're found around Flamingo which is part of the Everglades.

But they spent a ton of money changing the roads to protect the deer! And I don't even know the penalty for killing one, but I think it's huge.
They were endangered I thought.

Iguanas are tough though..hopefully they can hang on tight somewhere high.

What, the Army Corp of Engineers spent money to undue all the damage they did to Florida? Did they re-kink the Kissimmee River?

Sorry, sore subject for some of us.

Lucky for SoFla they don't hang out in the water of the beaches there too much. They stay in mangroves a lot as well, in parts of the Everglades.. typically don't get all of the way down to the lower keys, but every once in a while one would pop up.
I'm an idiot and went diving in a canal- 4am, a little tipsy, to try and find the one that had apparently come all the way down to KW.
In my defense, I was 22years old, and a few other people went with me. I am so glad that we didn't find it in the canals in our scuba gear.
I hope my kid isn't as stupid as I was.lol.

As for the other Gators.. ugh. Stop bringing them up. ;)

I think we're talking about two different deer. These are specific to the Keys, mostly in Big Pine. They've never lived on the mainland.

Yeah, much of that area is only the Everglades, actually Monroe County as well.. but I don't think anyone lives there.

I know where the Key deer live, silly. I'm talking about the Corps. You have no idea what damage they did to the waterways of Florida. And also the Everglades. That canal you decided to go drunk gator gigging in at 4AM? The Corps probably dredged it. They changed the route of the Kissimmee River, hence my comment "did they re-kink it".

Yeah, my only point was he said they're not found in the Everglades, and they are in certain areas...

So anyone hear about the monster storm that's headed this way?

When's WDW gonna begin announcing closures? Tomorrow?

Maybe tomorrow? Hopefully not the morning of the afternoon they are closing.

BTW, he's a she.....

I'm lost. I only know about the canals from the river, I didn't know that anything was altered with the Keys.

When's it projected for Orlando? Saturday night?

Do you think Disney will stay open til late afternoon Saturday?

I think Disney's going to see what the late afternoon models show tomorrow. But yes, probably close Saturday afternoon. The best way to check is to see if there are any dinner time ADRs.

Oh, I'm sure the Corps had input in that project. They do for a lot of infrastructure around the state.

But it's late, waaay past my bedtime. And I need to go hunting for bottled water tomorrow.

So I'm signing off. And hoping when I awake, Irma has decided she wants to go sun on the French Riviera.

It's safe at Disney during a hurricane, they say. You'll have fun, they say. No problems, they say...

Anyway, my flight out of MCO on Frontier is at 6 PM this Friday. That's the flight I was always leaving on. Two days ago, I checked to see if Frontier had any openings on earlier flights, but they didn't, so, I'm sticking with the plan. Part of the plan is getting to the airport 4 hours early since MCO TSA is notoriously slow and understaffed and the terminal shuttle is currently at half capacity and am expecting a madhouse. Not to mention if there will be heavy traffic.

Im going to ride this one out in town at my grandparents. Hoping for the best but scared for those who are staying in miami. I will say this is the most I have ever seen people evacuate for a hurricane in Florida.

Iguanas? They are an invasive species and I hope every last one of them in the state is killed by Irma along with the pythons. Neither belongs here.

Based on the latest NHC update she's now just barely down to a cat 4. Both the latest GFS and ECMWF have her going right up the state.

If anyone is still interested in Sint-Maarten: a navy ship has docked, the runway has been cleared to allow supply aircraft to land today, but they're just barely inside Jose's cone so the ship and aircraft can't stay long.
People are pillaging and plundering and not giving a hoot :(. That, food, water, and communications are the biggest problems as per the latest press conference.
