I've had various kinds over the years, from cheapies to Sabatier and Wusthof. Hubby loves his Kyocera ceramic knives--very sharp. I gotta tell you though--out of all my knives that I've collected over the years, there is one completely awesome, large, sharp knife from a very cheap, no-name brand; it's about 30 years old, and is still the best knife in the drawer!! :jawdrop:
its hard to find good knives these years.. like hardware and kitchen appliances.. quality has gone downhill for the sake of prices and company convenience.

I saw the YouTube of the guy that sang on stage while they were waiting for Ariana Grande to show up to sing, 3 hours late. He was amazing.

No matter how good she might have been I would not have enjoyed it, having to wait on her 3 hours.
I wonder.. was she being a prissy?
I remember Justin Bieber pulling a similar stunt.. refusing to go out and sing because "he felt like it".
But then, it could also have been another thing (like backing in the Tampa to Orlando road, which my boss says sometimes is brutal with a 6 hour drive when its usually only 1 hour) or even an airplane issue!

I just read a TR of someone who's there now, basically bashed F&W, saying it's like a "spring break drunken frat party". Does it seem like that to you as well @ajrwdwgirl?

There are not Caribou Coffee Shops around here anymore. Disappointing. I actually liked their coffee more that Starbucks.

I don't think it was a drunken frat party, but last night there were plenty of people that had a few too many. We didn't see anything scandalous though.

I don't like that Ariana grande so I definitely wouldn't have waited around for her. I wonder why she was so late. And I love caribou. Too bad they aren't by you anymore. I don't care for Starbucks much, their coffee always tastes burnt.

Oh no! Not at all. I certainly didn't mean to say that. I have no idea who is even a parent here or how they feel about education. I was responding specifically to the people who seemed shocked that a parent would be upset with a child for not trying and said things like, "Are you kidding?" I was just trying to be supportive.
Well then you were responding to ME (a parent) who asked Figgy "You're kidding, right?" and I wasn't being a judgmental smartass and it wasn't meant as a degrading question but a pique of curiousity as a B+/B/B- in the grand scheme of school life is still a B. NOR did I ridicule anyone and I wasn't "shocked" that a parent would want their child to do their best in WHATEVER endeavor they choose to do. What I am "shocked" at (but not really, I feel pity for) those parents that demand nothing but A's and would punish their child for not achieving that goal. What type of life is that to give a son or daughter.

Interesting to note that most (kitchen) knife accidents actually happen with dull knives. The reason is that people press harder with a dull edge, but sometimes that causes it to slip--and cut into a finger.

While we're on the subject of kitchen accidents, I just had this deja vu moment of a discussion I had (many years ago) with my mother. She had a friend who was an emergency dept. nurse, and back in her day, not so many families had dishwashers. So a very common injury seen in the emerg. dept. would be from women washing glass drinking glasses. The glasses would break in their hand--and they'd be rushed to the hospital for stitches.

And now it is Bagels. People not thinking holding the bagel in one hand and slicing through the bagel and the palm of their hand. :in pain:

I did almost nothing all day.

It was pretty boring excepting the Internet.
Enjoy it while you can because next year you'll be in college and days where there's absolutely nothing that you have to do will be few and far between. Well, during the semester at least. And then after the semester, you'll be doing all of the things you couldn't do during the semester because you were too busy.

Careful. When I mentioned the Canadian election, I got in trouble for being political.

I've been around here for a while. I try very hard to stay away from debating specifics of politics. I will however give a compliment to a country that does something well in the broad sense of a system. Much like I give kudos to the Catholics newest Pope. I stay away from any specific election and I try hard not to go farther than admitting to being a wayward Catholic but sometimes we do share our childhood experiences with our education in Catholic schools. We kinda work at tip toeing gingerly being very mindful of trying not to offensive though sometimes it does happen when we least expect it.

Funny thing grades are. Often so subjective. Some teachers just have it in for the very bright kids, not most but some do. I have one kid with a real high IQ. She never got anything less than an A. Not because I demanded it, it was because she demanded it herself and I worried about that for her even when she was in college. She was tough on herself. She has herself to be proud of for graduating Summa Laude from a tough University with a double major. Sometimes these kids that are real smart you just have to leave alone to figure things out for themselves, they are wired very differently and watching these gifted (hate the term but it is what it is) kids some tank when parents get overly involved or start having problems fitting in with classmates because they are the smartest ones. It is such a hard call. Being on the BOE I saw more than most. I saw some of these kids that were gifted tank under the pressure more out of rebellion. Like I said before my DD was reading kids chapter books at 4. I don't know how she learned to read. That is spooky as a parent. I advocated for her when need be but I backed off how she was was handling her own education early on. I'd only step in when someone was messing with her. And there were a few.

Now the other one I had to be a bit more mindful of his education. While very bright and a very respectful IQ that one needed to be kept on the road. It would have been unfair expectations for me to demand all A's from him. I knew the subjects he would do well in and the ones that were more of a struggle. And sometimes I just knew when to let it go 'cause it wasn't the kid it was a particular teacher. I needed them both to know I too realized adults sometimes are just jerks. Sometimes it is just that, just like with kids sometimes there are dud of teachers too. My DH a math major himself had to go into see a middle school math teacher over a D on a math test of my DS that we were required to sign. My DH didn't do parent teacher conferences, this time he did. During that conference my DH taught the math teacher how to do the problems he marked wrong on my sons math test. He did that a second time when my son was in high school again in math.

It all worked out. They both graduated high school, they both graduated college. They both have careers. Now when they both recover from earning their undergrad degrees and go onto grad school I pray I have nothing to do with it and just get to attend the grad ceremony. So glad I'm done. Don't miss it, don't miss it at all.

Edit: lol I have to love what the filter *** out. Not a very bright filter. Giggle.

I block it out, too, not so much because it's horrible, but it's usually nothing special. It difficult finding an artist with an original sound these days.

I grew up in an era of great music. So many great but very different artists. Some amazing God Given Gifts of Voices too. Creative styles. I also grew up in an era that was also heavily influenced by drugs, especially in the entertainment arena.
