I like how Canada handles the election timeframe. I'm bored already and the elections are a year out. They are already grating on my last nerve.

Careful. When I mentioned the Canadian election, I got in trouble for being political.

Blah. They are not hotdogs. I hated when Disney went to Chicken Dogs with the pretence they were going healthy and then dumped the most unhealthy crud atop them and called the hotdogs gourmet hotdogs. Hypocates. But at least it drowns out the taste of the fake hotdogs.

Chicken hot dogs are not necessarily healthier either. Totally depends on the filler.

I used to get A's in middle school without opening a book. It just wasn't challenging. I still should have tried, though. It is good life skill to hone. My parents, unfortunately, didn't care if I gave 100% so long as my grades were fine. They didn't do me any favours. As things got more difficult, it was hard to adjust as I was used to sliding by.

I don't care so much about my kids' grades. I care about their effort. I totally get where @figmentfan423 is coming from and surprised other parents don't expect the same from their kids.

Pretty much. Sinterklaas arrived in the Netherlands (by steamboat, with his helpers the black piets, and his horse Amerigo) yesterday, so from last night until December 5th, kids can "set" their shoes at night before they go to bed. They sing Sinterklaas songs, they put carrots in their shoes for Amerigo, and sometimes a note or drawing for Sinterklaas. Then Sinterklaas comes (or the black piets) and puts candy and small gifts in their shoes. On December 5th, it's gift night when they get the bigger presents. Our kids set their shoes last night and each got a chocolate bar in the shape of their first initial. I've got a few little gifts for them..like a minion key chain for my son, and an Elsa or Anna dance ribbon for my daughter, lightweight nylon backpacks they can use for Disney, etc. Just little things.

What a beautiful tradition! I love it. Have fun!

I felt that I had to do the best. That puts so much stress on kids, who try to please. Sis wasn't as good a student, so Mom didn't push her so much. I was the last kid, so brother got away with so many things I couldn't. Sister got away with more. I got away with nothing. I guess I was Mom's last hope. Older brother was 21 when he married his 17 year old pregnant wife. Sis dated a lot , me I got scrutiny.

And that's never a good thing...for kids to feel so much pressure to succeed. I remember going to school with kids who weren't allowed to be kids because they always had to be studying or practicing piano. I remember one friend who started studying for her SATs with all her spare time in the ninth grade! because her parents insisted on it. There definitely has to be a healthy balance.

Had a good day today. After church, hubby and I went to a coffee shop to work on a writing project for a magazine that has taken us 7 hours to complete (3 a different day and 4 today). But it's done now and it's the best feeling in the world! Neither of us could eat supper though because we were so full on coffee. I suppose I will be up all night.

@Gabe1 , I think it was you who said (in the past few days) that you liked that TV series, The Royals. I had started to watch it months ago when it first came on, but only saw maybe 2 episodes. Thought it was o.k. but wasn't really sure. Well, yesterday, there was a complete marathon showing of all the episodes from this year; and while I was doing laundry, etc., I did manage to see quite a bit of it, so I'm caught up. It's really excellent! The acting, scrips, sets and stylish clothing all made it a very interesting show. It had a number of surprises that really threw me! There's some really good casting in that show.

I'm sure you would be shocked to hear that I watched a couple episodes and I didn't like it. Too much like a soap opera. Though I do want to watch some Hollyoaks one day. But perhaps I'll try again one day because of all the Britishness.

So you're "assuming" other parents on this thread don't give a carp about their children's education? Because that's the way it's sounding.

Ugh... talking about doing well in school as a kid... that was so me. Middle school (especially 7th grade) was such a rude awakening for me. I didn't really recover until the end of last year... (though by my school's standards, by normal standards, I'm still a great student).

So glad you had the chance to see Osborne one more time.

I too love the Swan and Dolphin. Just enough Whimsy with those palms, so fun.

We saw a little of the parade taping today and this looks like backdrop for singers. Also had pot roast Mac and cheese and BBQ chicken mac and cheese both were really good. View attachment 119128

I saw the YouTube of the guy that sang on stage while they were waiting for Ariana Grande to show up to sing, 3 hours late. He was amazing.

No matter how good she might have been I would not have enjoyed it, having to wait on her 3 hours.

Oh no! Not at all. I certainly didn't mean to say that. I have no idea who is even a parent here or how they feel about education. I was responding specifically to the people who seemed shocked that a parent would be upset with a child for not trying and said things like, "Are you kidding?" I was just trying to be supportive.

No, wasn't me. I did have a snarky comment about the chef embellishing his resume in England so much so that the Royal family spoke up.

I've had various kinds over the years, from cheapies to Sabatier and Wusthof. Hubby loves his Kyocera ceramic knives--very sharp. I gotta tell you though--out of all my knives that I've collected over the years, there is one completely awesome, large, sharp knife from a very cheap, no-name brand; it's about 30 years old, and is still the best knife in the drawer!!

I have some good Chicago Cutlery over 30 years old that are very good from back in the day when they were quality. I have one Weiss honk'n big knife from my Gran. Can't tell ya how old it is but I love it. The Ikea 2 for about $5 are very good. I was surprised.
