Hey Buddy! Nice to see you on this thread! Do you realize it's been a month since you finished your last TR? I'm starting to get the shakes…Could you just make up a TR so I can get my fix of hilarity? :p

To answer your question, I made myself a nice dinner, had a big beer, and watched Scream and Scream 2. Good times. :cat:
I agree we need to get them to go back! Sadly I've not been able to think of a legal option to get Phil back there. A few of the not so legal options might be fun:D:cool:

Our firm actually shuts down for a week between Christmas and New Years, based on when the dates fall.

That's amazing. I've never had a job anywhere that they actually shut down for a whole week. The only day I get off is Christmas Day, and any other time I want, comes out of my vacation time. Even that's difficult around Christmas because everyone else also wants to take (some) time off. This stresses out a lot of workers every year, and is bad for morale. The only good thing about this year is that Christmas is on a Friday, so at least there is the weekend directly following which helps.

I use most of the bells and whistles on the machine that's been dying for quite a while so one with less features may not be the way to go. I love the decorative stiches for doing crazy quilts (that name fits me, better I say it before @MR FERRET) One of those blocks makes for a nice pot holder when you don't know what color the person's kitchen is (teacher gifts) I spent a good bit of time looking at different machines with the features I want and checked out reviews on several sites and I think I know which machine I want. Now I'm hoping it goes on a really good sale soon.

Oh that's great. Glad you know what you want. What kind is it? I'm not up on the new machines at all these days.

A brother sewing/embroidery combo

Wow. That sounds fun. Remember, my (old) machine is also a Brother. Now, not that I've ever used a serge machine (they were popular some years ago), I often thought it would be a smart idea for a sewing machine to also have some sort of serge attachment option as well. It's a moot point for me now anyway, as I'm not in the market to buy a new one, but I was just thinking.

Yep, retail is quite the different animal.
I had never worked retail in my entire life until I was laid off in January of '09 from the architectural firm I will be back with full-time for 3 years now in February. I was initially with them for 20+ years.
The first retail job I had and the last one I left was our local Disney Store after 4+ years. I had as many as 3 jobs at a time. The Disney Store, Batteries+, Kay Jewelers, Calendar Club/Go games and Toys, a men's clothing store (the one that I still cover occasional closing shifts for), and then 10 months of contract work from home before the firm hired me back full-time.
I remember going as long as 3 months without a full day off. It was nuts.
But, I sure did learn a lot, especially about myself, and I wouldn't trade that for anything. :)

This is the reality for a lot of people, unfortunately. I think a lot of us forget. My husband is currently working 3 jobs (although the not retail) and it can get crazy.

Some machines have an overcast stitch which can be used with an auto cut foot. Almost but not exactly the same as a serger.

Good morning everyone! Day off for me.

Settling in front of the TV as it's a big day for Canada today (but I can't talk about it here :)).

Then this afternoon it's my weekly special time with my little boy. I think he wants to look around Toys R Us and go to the library. So all in all, should be a great day!

Dark and rainy here and has been for three days but not too cold.

Huh...my mom didn't let me wear makeup. I remember once when I was 17 or 18 and my mom had told me I could wear a little bit to the school dance. I put on a bit of eyeliner and that was it and I was leaving and my mom said "Don't you think you have a bit too much makeup on?" and I said "nope!" and walked out the door before she could tell me to go wash it off.
In jr. high we could wear lip gloss and a little blush. Nothing more until high school and being the late 80s I wore a lot. :joyfull:

Wow...that's really strict.
Yep, but that's the school system in the Netherlands. The kids start school on their 4th birthday. There are 2 years of kindergarten. If your birthday is before January, the time from your birthday to the end of the school year counts as the first year. So my son, whose birthday is in December, only had half a year for his first year...at the end of that school year, he moved to year 2. But my daughter's birthday is in May, so she went from May to July, but it didn't count and she had to start her first year of kindergarten then in the new school year. My son is the youngest in his class and most of the kids are at least a year older because most parents who have kids with birthdays in that first part of the school year choose to let them do an extra kindergarten year. We chose not to because DS could already read and add, etc, so he would have been SUPER bored in kindergarten for a whole extra year. But, kids also aren't obligated to go to school until they are 5. So you don't need permission to take them out of school until their 5th birthday.

ugh.... I still do not understand that dumb mentality.
Its almost like the racial thing against blacks. Its like some men feel their position of "top person" is somehow endangered if they let other groups gain more liberty or opportunities.
Well, my dad is a product of his generation. It's the way he was taught and brought up to believe. When he starts spewing nonsense, I just bite my tongue because I know he's not going to change and he's old...I don't know how many more years I'll have him here, so I don't want to fight with him about things like that. I don't like how he thinks, but my whole childhood, I had a horrible relationship, almost NO relationship with him. Now that I'm older and have forgiven him, I won't waste the little time we have left arguing. So I try to change the subject. It's just not worth fighting about.

Wow! I'm glad I didn't have that growing up. I think if I would have grown up in another time I would have been one of those trouble making suffragettes. One of my room mates in college that that view of college is a place to meet a man, not get an education. She actually flunked out of college because when her boyfriend broke up with her she stopped going to classes. She didn't know what to do with herself now that she didn't have a man. It disgusted me and I had very little sympathy for her, she wasted a lot of money for nothing.
It only made me work harder to get through college to prove him wrong. At the time,I was so mad at him and I used to break out in a rash if I just had to talk to him on the phone...every word that came out of his mouth was so negative and set my teeth on edge. But now I'm older, I realize that he just had a horrible example set for him and he didn't know better. I had to show him that I was not like that.

Don't fall for that hubby looked at reviews, it seems it falls apart really quickly. I loved the looks and asked him to check it out. He loves research, some of what he did in the energy business, along with wind towers and solar panels. To make a long story short ( whoops, missed that)..... people didn't like that it fell apart very quickly....
I'd never buy any of that. HSN is next to The Weather Channel on my tv so every once in awhile something will catch my eye.

Ok...but were there other kids too? I mean...if your kid is passed out because he's tired, trick or treat time is over.
Yes but I wouldn't have cared either way. Just thinking when the kid woke up and smiled because they got candy makes me smile. That's the spirit of Halloween giving to me. Besides one never knows if it's the child's fault or another factor they were tired. To be that bothered a parent was getting candy for a child that nodded off is a ridiculous waste of time to me. Just enjoy the holiday.
As parents we've ALL had children fall asleep at an inconvenient time.
