Now I feel bad

Was driving home this evening. My mom has been teaching me how to handle her car and so I was driving it and she was in the passenger seat. I was coming up our street, brights on and slowly so as not to hit a deer. All of the sudden, a baby fox jumps out in front of the car. Couldn't brake in time and ended up hitting and killing it. :(

Absolutely nothing I could have done. I didn't see it, nor did my mother, until it was right in front of us. But that isn't stopping me from feeling terrible about it.

And the value of things. The other day at school I was supervising students outside (a little free time...don't call it recess to middle school kids!) and I had kids playing catch with one of the kids iphone 6's. It was actually playing catch, and it was the owner of the phones idea! They didn't see the problem with it at all, because if it broke they said their parents would buy them a new one!!!
spoiled kids.
Reminds me of that famous video of a girl getting a luxury car..
she was crying, claiming her life was over.. because the car was of a color she did not want.

1. IMO, middle schoolers do NOT need iPhones. I don't think that age group is responsible enough to have a device like that. I certainly wasn't. There is far too much on social media that they can do to get themselves in trouble. A basic phone for that age is fine
2. Yeah, why teach kids to take care of their stuff? That's not a valuable life skill at all.

Disclaimer: Not meant as a check in pro column for her 13 year old..

But as much as middle schoolers are wired weirdly I can't put them all in that same category. I actually think the young'ns are more savvy than we give them credit for on a whole. Yeah they have their stupid moments, some of it with their phones but I even look at teachers and the trouble many have gotten themselves into with all forms of technology. I have seen the scandals with elected representatives and their questionable going ons with their phones. I'm more inclined to believe there are dumb in every age demographic.

That is true, but I think high school is a more appropriate age for having a smart phone. Simple safety issue. There was a girl not long ago near here who had an iPod touch. She had an app, Kik, which she was not supposed to have on her phone. She started communicating with strangers, and communicated where she lived, where she went to school, etc. She got kidnapped, raped, and luckily was found alive (in North Carolina I believe). While high schoolers definitely aren't responsible adults, I believe most of them are more responsible and in a better position to use social media. Especially if they start out with social media on a family computer that their parents monitor.

You know what's funny?
Can't remember the last time I spent so much time at MK in one day, nonstop. But after at least 10 fast passes, 2 parades, 2 dining reservations, and 1 fireworks display, it was a successful day and our newbie friend loved it. She has been to DL many times but thought MK to be impressive and had a great time. Now I am beat so off to bed to rest for tomorrow.

Glad your friend enjoyed it. Other than the castle, IMO, MK pales in comparison to DL. Glad your friend enjoyed it.

Hope you continue to have a great trip! :)

:eek::eek::eek: If my ds does that he will be phoneless!!! No phone =no going anywhere in the parks without mom and dad next year! Thank you, he's getting the same phone I have, pay as you go, android. Funny thing is where I live the kids with the fancy phones with expensive plans always have to borrow their friend's with the payg phones because they get better signal. Living in the woods is great, good school, no crime to speak of, peace and quiet but spotty cell service.

I'm going bonkers! Yesterday I bumped my head, my ds pulled out a drawer out while I was getting something from the lower cabinet. Doc said I'm fine just a mild concussion, but no weights or driving until Friday! So if it seems I have more typos than usual......... I hate being told to take it easy!

Wow, chocolate sounds like a great cure! Sorry about the SAD, I get affected by it too. That is why hubby and I usually go somewhere warm in February or March it gives me something to look forward to.
Sorry you have SAD too. Hubby has planned a trip to Disney World for next Feb. I know that really helps. Dark chocolate is the kind to eat. I buy those Ghiradelli minis in Dark Chocolate, only 30 calories, and so tasty. :hungry:

I buy a big jar of Vit. D in gummy form from Walmart. They are quite tasty. It's funny though because I never had the problem of low "D" until I moved to NC. I am now out in the sunshine all the time playing golf and going to grandkids ball games and yet it is lower here then it was in Vermont. Vermont get's about 12 days (exaggeration) of sunshine per year and most of that we are bundled up so heavily against the cold that the sun doesn't get through. I wish there was a way to get Vit. D from the glow of a computer monitor cause I personally would never need another day in the sunshine.
Thank you for letting me know about those. I'll get me some.
